You're right, Luke. I hadn't thought of it before, but it's true. I can understand it being seen from Endor, since it's orbiting the moon, but everybody else seems to know immediately that the Death Star II has been destroyed. I mean, come one, Lucas! It's not like everybody would've been free of Imperial control the evening after it was blown to shards.

I'm sure you're right, Shimraa. I'm just now at around 130 or so, and I can't imagine ever reaching a thousand, let alone four thousand. But then, I haven't even been on the boards a month.

The Original Trilogy - Laser Disc Conversion Thread

$90? That's amazing. If that's the case, the dual-layer DVDs will be making their appearance fairly soon, I'm going to have to buy a new set, but from the impression I'm under, it sounds like all the possibilities with the dual-layering will make a second set worth it (and I'll be able to give someone else the gift of the original Star Wars cuts with my old ones--a definite plus).

LOL! I guess the Monty Python's lumberjack joke can be used in every ocasion!

It sure can! Monty Python is universal, and that's why I love it so much.

Thanks for your apologies, Ric. Actually, I don't know what people were expecting...I wasn't expecting anything other than same old Vader myself. Maybe they were expecting him to run around in a Jar Jar Binks suit, or maybe they were expecting to have George Lucas fill in for the part himself, wielding a lightsaber with his voice overdubbed by James Earl Jones (no, wait...JEJ has too good of a voice for Lucas...best have Ahmed Best do the voice dub).

Mark Hamill in Ireland Online Interview
Time
This surprised me when I read it just a few minutes ago, but it's actually a welcome surprise for all of us, I think (except, I'm sorry Jimbo, but I don't think you'll like it ). TFN posted a link to an article in Ireland Online, where Mark Hamill completely bashes George Lucas AND the Prequels.

Hamill: Lucas ruined my career

22/06/2004 - 18:56:27

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has attacked the sci-fi franchise's mastermind George Lucas for ignoring him, describing the director as a "sad" man who "just doesn't get it".

Hamill gained worldwide fame as Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy - released between 1977 and 1983.

But while Hamill's co-stars, including Harrison Ford, went on to become superstars, he appeared in a string of flops.

And the 52-year-old blames his withering career on Lucas' decision not to cast him in any of his other movies.

Hamill said: "George is very unemotional. He is not someone who says, 'Hey, let's get together and have a barbecue to salute the old talent'. I never hear from any of them.

"I loved all those people, but have not seen them in years. George could have made it happen, if he wanted to."

And Hamill isn't a fan of Lucas' current Star Wars prequels either - of which The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones have so far been released.

He blasts: "My message to him is, 'Get out more, pal. You are surrounded by an army of sycophants who say that, even when you blow your nose, you are brilliant.'

"How sad is that? It's not as if he's making Ten Commandments, Part Two.

"Everything in his new Star Wars movies seems so important now. Ours were much funnier. I am not speaking out of school here, but he just doesn't get it. He thinks some of this new stuff is funny."

The link is right here, for those interested in reading it yourselves.

Yeah, I just read that too, Jimbo. Here's the complete snippet from TFN regarding what information they know, or believe they know for certain:

'SW on DVD: Long Lead Press Day
Tue, Jun 22, 04 06:46:52 PM EDT

'According to our sources, Lucasfilm hosted a press day today for long lead publications like magazines and international papers. The focus of the day's events were to give them an exclusive preview of the Classic Star Wars Trilogy on DVD. The official 4-disc set debuts in September with online and short-lead having their preview sometime next month or early August.
'While we've yet to hear anything substantial about the days events as of yet, this post is just to let you know that people out there have now seen Star Wars on DVD, they've witnessed some of the changes themselves and we'll all know soon enough all of the intricate details of the release. So far we believe we can confirm Hayden being added to ROJ and Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor in the Trilogy. Naboo is also included in the ending celebrations and there's another pass on Jabba in ANH.
'More as we hear it!'

And here I was starting to wonder if I had jumped to conclusions on the Anakin thing, but it looks like I didn't. Buying my copies off of Rikter seems like a better idea all the time.

"Check it out, Bob. We're running a T3 line, and with the new port blocking, it's only pulling 26kbps."
"You know, Phil, you're a real jerk."

As far as I know, there is no solution to this problem short of getting your internet elsewhere. If there is, I'd love to hear it. I haven't been able to use bittorrent in months because of this. Heck, my campus just recently started blocking port 6667, claiming that IRC was tying up 30% of their bandwidth usage. I'd believe it if DCC transfers didn't take place on random ports.

I haven't used Torrents before. I've tried to use them, but haven't had much luck. Right now, I'm trying to get the Clone Wars episodes from the site Rikter mentioned, but my torrent status keeps saying 'connecting to peers.' Does it normally show that for awhile or should it take right off. I'm on a campus server, so that may have something to do with (though I hope it doesn't). Could anybody give me any hints? Thanks.

I like it, Luke, and I'm trying to picture it in a Hyperspace-exclusive trailer right now...'First we screwed you over when we charged you $50 a year to see generic behind-the-scenes footage of Episode III, but that's nothing compared the total anal rape your wallet's going to suffer when we give you STAR WARS: THE SUPER-SCREWING-THE-CUSTOMERS EDITION!' It would also probably feature a snippet from a documentary showing footage of fans placing money at the base of a George Lucas/Buddha shrine on Skywalker Ranch, or something like that....

But it doesn't change my mind about not buying it.

I thought it was a decent trailer myself as well. It's supposed to get people to buy, buy, buy (like all advertising), and it pulled at my nostalgic heartstrings as I watched it. But...I resisted. I stand beside you both, Hal and Bossk, and anyone else not planning on buying it. I've got Rikter's anamorphic set, and that'll more than suffice for now.

Don't remember the movie so well, only a few "scenes", but it was very Felini-esque, with people I know in the film. That's it, I'm finally completly insane.

HAHAHAHAH - AND I thought we had all lost are minds here on the OT forums!!

I'm a huge film score fan. I listen to tons of James Horner, John Williams, etc. Some of the scores that I have that I can list off the top of my head are:

--the LOTR scores
--Braveheart
--Legends of the Fall
--the Matrix scores
--Gladiator
--The Patriot
--Pirates of the Carribbean
--Star Wars Prequel scores
--the 2-disc SE scores of all three of the original SW films
--Dances With Wolves
--etc.
