Hmmmm...unfortunately, I don't think I will, either. The more you learn about him and his creative techniques, the more you just want to wring his neck. It's sad, but true.

I don't have a widescreen TV either. I watch my movies on my 13" Zenith or my computer monitor. I would've loved the added picture quality of the TR-47 sets, but I went with the anamorphic simply because it had the menus and such. I wanted a set that felt more professional, and so I took the hit on video quality. I would love it if the new dual-layering possibilities would allow people to take the quality of TR-47's transfers and include the features of the anamorphic set. The extra space would probably allow for that, if the ability to do it exists.

Galahad... I agree the halos are overdoing it a bit. Did anyone else happen to notice how there is a blue saber on ANH with a red glow around everyone, a red saber on ESB with a blue glow, and a green saber on ROTJ with (imagine that) a green glow. Why not have the glow correspond to the saber color on ANH and ESB like it does on ROTJ?

No clue. But then again, how much of this trilogy release makes much sense, anyway?

One thing though, I'm pretty sure the TR47 set doesn't have the commentary.

No Sweyland, I think the official covers are atrocious, and if you buy the widescreen versions, the spines on the two sets won't match together at all. I don't know what the Lucasfilm art department was smoking when they designed those, but apparently it wasn't good. And Cerbero, good work! I'm half-tempted to use them (I've already got two different cover designs for my set from Rikter, but I might consider yours. I'm just trying to decide if I want mine to match with my prequel DVDs, or if I want to go with some other option, like Rikter's Japanese LD-inspired art or the THX covers or yours, Cerbero. Keep it up!

On the side: if I was an artist, I'd do this, but...I know somebody made up some chapter inserts awhile back, but they weren't sized properly seem to work the best. If someone would be interested, I would tag-team with them on making a set of inserts--they could make the artwork, I'd come up with chapter titles that are more than just dialogue (I could only do this with the anamorphic set, though, since that's all I have). I would probably take my titles from the soundtracks and other sources. We could also add some additional text with some pictures...perhaps the production notes word-for-word, or some info on the different releases of the trilogy. Heck, we could also insert OriginalTrilogy.com in it somewhere... Let me know if you're interested, because chapter inserts would make our sets a bit more professional feeling.

Jimbo, could I ask you a question, without offending you? If you feel the prequels are better films, and if you feel everyone's attempts to get the original cuts on DVD are feeble and pointless, why are you here? It's just something that struck me strangely, and I'd seriously like to know.

First of all I consider The Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope to be better then The Phantom Menace. I am hear because a good discussion requires individuals of different opinions.

So, let me get this straight...you like The Phantom Menace better than Return of the Jedi? Why, pray tell? Because, even though I have very little against the prequels, I still feel TPM was the weakest of the saga. Besides, Jedi is my favorite, and I've had to deal with people calling it the weakest of the originals for quite sometime now, though they have valid points about why they like Empire Strikes Back so much, so it doesn't bother me that much.

You make a good point. I doubt I'd think about homosexuality much at all if it wasn't shoved in my face. I think it's unfortunate that gays do tend to bring some of the discrimination against them on themselves.

Oh, and if anyone hasn't taken the time to think about it, whites designated Black History Month as February, the shortest month of the year. While some blacks and other minorities, just like gays, do tend to turn themselves into victims, I think it's pretty ridiculous that Black History Month is set when it is.

If I offended anyone, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to. These are delicate issues, I understand, and I always try to use a 'live and let live' approach whenever I can, but others don't always do the same, and if it were the whites making themselves into victims (or straight individuals), I would be criticizing them as well.

Mark Hamill in Ireland Online Interview
Time
The funny thing is that I've heard people complaining about this because they feel Hamill is saying that Lucas ruined his career, as the headline said. But his quotes imply nothing of the sort. He's simply taking a stand against Lucas.

Actors getting in the way of his creative process.... I mean, I'm glad Lucas made the movies and everything, but if that's how the man feels about actors, maybe he should've found another creative channel.

Of course, the reason is b/c it's announced for DVD release anyway. And since it technically isn't the "SE", I don't know his take on it.

Actually, ignore this post.

Cool.

No mre SE discussion - BUT If the released DVD's are that different or do have more added scenes it really is a different movie ONLY in the fact that it's been ALTERED from any known version that came before. So in my crazy mind I see it ONLY as a form of preservation of the ORIGINAL SPECIAL EDITIONS.

That being said I will end ALL discussion about The Original Special Editions

Word.

Rik

(but if anyone plans on doing it PLEASE PM me )

Rikter,
You might not want to rule out the 1997 SE transfers as out of bounds yet. Somebody should get ahold of Jay following the Lucasfilm press conference (or whatever it was yesterday). TFN says they feel comfortable confirming the Hayden Christensen ghost thing and other changes like that, and I think a lot of us here would feel those changes make the September release a significantly different creature than the SEs. And it's just my opinion that the SEs should be preserved as well, even if they did screw with things. But as I said, that's just me, so we should see how others feel about it before completely ruling it out.

Rikter, I take it you'll be starting work on a dual-layer version of the trilogy soon, when you get the equipment, of course? You'll keep us posted on your progress, and let us know when you'll be able to offer them to us, won't you? Just checking, since the dual-layering offers so many more options.

Also, to anybody that can answer: when making the DVD version of the LD special features disc, would it be possible to add additonal features (like the the 'Star Wars to Jedi' documentary, etc.) to the dual-layer disc? I'm not that technical, so I have no idea what can be done and what can't.

Knights of the Old Republic
Time
Knights of the Old Republic would be a definite must-buy if they released it for the PS2 (and the sequel). I played it on the PC a few months ago, and will probably end up buying it this summer for myself just so I can play it again. But I'm having this fear that the specs for KOTOR 2 will be too great for my system. I'm just crossing my fingers at this point.
