Although not as extreme as you make it sound.

I wasn't trying to make it sound extreme, Hal. It was just very minor, and I didn't know if I was seeing things, or the transfer to DVD had caused it to happen, or if it was something else. It's a lot better than pan and scan.

You mean, in a "fox-news-sensible-controlled-fair-and-balanced" way, right?

Well, I don't agree with his opinions, but he wasn't lashing out at us with constant streams of obscenities like he's tended to do over the past week.

I haven't played Masters, but I would love to sit down with it sometime. It sounded like it would be a fun game.

As for the avatars, I think we all have avatars we would rather use over the ones we have. The upload avatar function apparently doesn't work, because I couldn't get it to work and I've also read other threads where people have had problems.

Is it just me, or is the widescreen on the anamorphic bootleg of ESB a little off? I'm asking because it looks a bit screwed up when the opening crawl goes past, as the full line of text isn't immediately readable as soon as it comes onto the bottom of the screen. Just a nitpicky question, and I guess I asked it here since it's the whole widescreen/pan and scan thread.

that idea is how Bush got elected in the first place.

Everybody repeat after me: A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush.
I'm not crazy about Kerry, But I don't like Nader and I hate Bush. I think we really need to get Bush out of office, and the best chance of doing that is to vote for Kerry. But, I still won't make up my mind for certain untill election day. If there were an independent candidate that wasn't too liberal, too conservative, too stupid, too much of a nutcase, or crooked and had good chance winning I would vote for him/her. Nader is too liberal for me and has no chance of winning. All he will do is lower Kerry's chance of winning. if I had to vote right now, I'd probably vote for Kerry. But I would also have to take a good bath afterwards

This is all getting too complicated...I thought we were supposed to vote for candidates we believed in, not one we just groan and vote for anyway. If I had the nerve, I'd do a write-in for Jefferson Smith...

Best Music/Best Song or Theme

Which movie had the best music?

Which song/theme is your favorite?

Personally, I'm torn between ROTJ and AOTC for best music/soundtrack...and as for best song, it easily goes
1- Imperial March
2- Anakin and Padme love them
3- Duel of the Fates

and kudoes to the touching music from when Luke burned Vader's body...

Thanks for starting a nice discussion thread, Dushku.

I don't know what my absolute favorites are, but I do know my favorite album is ROTJ...two and a half hours of music from the film where the battle between good and evil came to a head. I vastly enjoy the thirty second piece from ROTJ called (I think) 'The Dark Side Beckons,' where Luke fights Vader and takes off his hand. Of course, the funeral pyre cue is amazing, and Binary Sunset is classic and should be a theme for all restless Midwestern youths. I won't let nostalgia get in the way and say that Across the Stars was the best of the saga's love themes (far more fleshed out, quite honestly, the Han/Leia theme was great but more subdued). Duel of the Fates was spectacular also, and I feel The Battle of Yavin is the best battle cue that John Williams composed for the saga (though The Arena from ATOC isn't too far from it). I can't pick an all-time favorite...I have to assign favorites by type.

The last thing we need is another Bill Clinton. Bush isn't perfect but he is a Hell of alot better then Kerry. What sucks is I turn 18 6 months after the election. So I can't vote. Though I know my parents are voting for Bush.

Jimbo, you sounded very reasonable in this last post of yours. I feel like I can discuss with you. And just between you and me, if I did vote for one of the major party candidates, it would be Bush. He's firm with his positions, and even though I don't agree with a fair amount of what he's firm on, at least he does stick to his guns, unlike Kerry. Is JK for or against the Patriot Act? Never could figure that out, along with many of his other stances. Oh, I get it...he's BOTH for AND against the same stuff, because he doesn't have to have views, since people are only voting for him because he's not a certain George W. Bush.

Damn, Hal, you took what I was going to say.

You can take that to mean that I agree with Hal, Luke. I despise the critics, I only read the reviews for the film synopsis; if it sounds like a good concept, I give it a try. Also, I think the fact that most of them have panned a great many of my favorite films has something to do with it.

Oh, Lord, Mackey...you brought back the nightmare of my afternoon...trying to find programs for converting. I don't know about editing tools, but for converting, I found a program called DVDX. It's free, and is the first of these programs that I've gotten to work (but the others were probably just me ). This page gives some good introductory instructions on how to convert from VOB to AVI and MPG with DVDX, also: DVDX Converting Instructions

Hope that helps!

That's what I'm doing, Gundark. I may not agree with Nader on everything under the sun (I'm a Republican; how can that be possible?), but at least Nader cares about the average American. I have to vote my conscience this year, and if that means 'throwing my vote away,' so be it.

And that's why the whole political system in the United States must change as soon as possible, or it'll be lead to a nazi-esque facist regime (maybe it's already like that, and you haven't noticed). More than 2 sides of the same coin. More than 2 opinions that lead to the same conclusion. Don't vote to defeat an opinion, vote to make your own opinion to be heard. Don't vote to conquer, vote to heal. Get envolved in your local politics. Don't let the corporations choose the puppet-leaders for you, let your voice be heard! It's your country, not theirs.

Well said, Ric. Though if we could unseat the power that the two main parties have over the televised debates, it would change a lot.

I don't why I haven't...I mean, Mel Brooks is a master. Maybe if they would put his other stuff on TV and quit repeating Men In Tights, I would've seen it by now (I've probably seen Men In Tights or parts of it, thanks to Comedy Central and ABC Family, at least twenty times, but I guess I'll just have to keep it in mind when I go to the video store when I'm home for the Fourth of July.

I have yet to have enjoyed a Kubrick film. His stuff just doesn't do it for me, I guess. I've seen Spartacus, Full Metal Jacket, and 2001, and I walked away from them with a WTF feeling. I want to try Strangelove, but it's going to take a lot of my nerve to do so, after having watched some of Kubrick's other films.

The manager and I just shook our heads. Anyone under 25 just doesn't get it. Sweyland, if you're under 25, I apologise in advance and hope you'll give me a better age to set the bar at.

Anyone under 25 doesn't get what? I'm just curious as to what you meant. There are a variety of things you could have meant, so I just wanted to make sure I fully understood your post before I commented. BTW, it's not to criticize what you said; I'm in agreement, but I just needed that comment clarified.

It has to be nearing 1,000 by now. Regardless of who gets elected, we're heading towards a second Vietnam. Think the 1968 Election: Nixon was elected because he promised to bring a swift end to the war, but instead he escalated the conflict. Kerry isn't even saying anything about concluding the Iraq debacle (or at least not saying it very loudly), so I shudder to think what he's going to do about the situation over there if he's in office. Bottom line: we're in a mess, and neither of our illustrious choices for President is going to do anything about it.
