Sometimes do you feel like you should give up on the cause?
Time
I like some too, but, and it's interesting that this should come up right now, but I just watched my Phantom Menace DVD last night for the first time, and I was amazed at how much gunk there was on the picture. I mean, an exorbitant amount. I think maybe it's just DVD artifacting, and if it is, that's a horrible amount to have! Does anybody else notice this?

Clive Revil
Time
Yeah, that's what I've said too. Clive is really mysterious and foreboding. Shrouded in dark. You want to know more! With the Ian performance, he's no longer at all mysterious. The scene is sleepy and too long, and everything's just there on the table, as if we're watching a conversation between Luke and Han.

Reasons to hate the Special Editions
Time
Welcome.

Me neither. Me neither. To be honest, I don't like either version's ending that much. It just leaves things far too open, and it makes them seem like they're in no better position than they were at the end of the first movie. Maybe an epilogue with a scene officially ending the war or starting up the New Republic.

But it's too late now, so leave it alone, Georgie-boy.

Changes you want (or don't want) to the 2007 archival editions

Yeah, they are cool to see anyway. I enjoyed watching them. Just not actually in the movie.

And, really, the Obi-Wan and Bail scenes weren't really about them, they were about what happened to the twins. And I'd hardly call Bail going back to his home planet some big secretive exile that we never would have figured out. Personally, I was just glad to finally see Alderaan.

LOL. You've go to admit, Adam, that yours is not an attitude about the SW films that is entirely welcome on these boards, even if you didn't come across as a petulant teeny-bopper. There are many other boards where you can gush with others about the changes, rather than being harrassed by folks who are "blinded by nostalgia."

I actually think it's good to have some alternative views and discussions. It's just the fact that this particular bringer of alternate views is an asshole.
The previous definition of Teenybopper given by Nanner was right, but I think it's more than that - it's one of those people who likes something but not truly - they are just latching on to a phase, like a girl at a backstreet boys gig who swears that their music is 'just like, totally awesome'.

Just making sure... I think that was me, right? If Nanner did post a definition, then... never mind.

My new order for watching the saga 3,4,5,6
Time
To me, Revenge of the Sith is still like wading through crap to get to the really good moments. And there are a lot of good moments, and I get caught up in the emotion. But just as I'm getting really into it, some crappy line, some stupid joke, some stupid droid, or a stupid subplot takes me out of the moment. When I got my DVD, I was literally yelling at the screen to Obi-Wan, "Hurry up and kill Grievous, so we can end this crap and get to the important stuff!" That's really all that keeps me from loving this movie because the good stuff is really, really good, but its baggage pulls it down so much!

The future Star Wars TV series
Time
I'm personally not looking forward to them, and since I don't watch much network TV anymore, I'll probably never even see them. I just think Lucas should put Star Wars to bed as gracefully as is still possible to do and move on. I believe that any more expansion of Star Wars is just going to unravel everything more than it already has.

Now that I've had my negative remark, let the discussion continue!

Well, he was able to do exactly what he wanted to do with the PT, but not with the OT.

Another change I want are the "birth of the rebellion" and "Exiled to Dagobah" scenes reinserted into ROTS.

Geez, man! They're in the deleted scenes. They went to the trouble of adding in all the effects and even scoring them! They're not these hidden treasures. They're right there. They simply don't fit into the movie. I liked the birth of the rebellion scenes, but the pacing of the second third of the movie would drag so much if they were put back in. And the Exiled to Dagobah scene is probably the most wasted 30 seconds ever! I loved the scoring of Yoda's theme on it, and I like it as a deleted scene, but there's just no point to it. Watching the pre-scene commentary for it, I agreed with Lucas for probably the first time in a few years: "There's no need to show it. We all know where he ends up. I wanted to keep the focus on the kids." And I was forced to shout an angry "Shut up, Lady!" at Rick McCallum when he was blabbering on about how, "If George tinkers with the films some more... *winkwinknudgenudge*" Shut up, Lady!

I always liked how there was this big change in between when we see the Emperor in a hologram and when we actually see him in person. That way, the surprise of actually seeing him in action for the first time isn't ruined. I mean, really, the only thing that's truly different is the voice (but like I said, I like his voice)... the hologram is so shrouded in the original that it more or less fits.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, the way it was before, everything was so mysterious and shrouded in darkness that seeing the Emperor in Return of the Jedi was like seeing him for the first time. The way it is now, done so openly, I feel like I'm already supposed to know who he is when he starts talking when we're really seeing him for the first time.

Yes! I've always loved that performance! It gave the Emperor some kind of mystery in his very first appearance. You're not supposed to be really sure of what you're seeing. The Ian reshoot is just far too open. The scene drags on for far too long, and I don't really feel like it's a good introduction to the character. Don't get me wrong. I love Ian's performance as the Emperor, but I prefer the original version.

The way that Clive Revill says, "There is a great disturbance in the Force." I just love it.

Besides, Ian looks less like the Emperor in that particular scene than Clive did!

I never knew her." removed, improved lightsabers, CG Tantive IV in ANH, improved general effects, Kashyyyk added to the end of ROTJ, and the audio in ANH fixed. By the way, I found this cool pic on the ROTS DVD of Ian McDiarmid shooting the 2004 DVD Palps scene:

Yeah, I saw that picture last night. It made me cringe.
