Was the Frankenstein Walk Shortened in ROTS DVD?
Time
It's a type of scene change where the the new scene replaces the old starting in one direction of the screen and continuing on to the other side, thus wiping the frame clean of the old scene and replacing it with the new one.

Sorry, AWK, I know he was asking the question to you, but I'm so close to 1,000 posts that I just couldn't resist answering!

Ah, I love debate.

Hard to come at this from a non-biased standpoint. But I have to admit that posts by The Bizzle really make me think. And it is easier to pay attention because, like a lot of us, myself included, doesn't come across with the attitude of a rabid dog carrying a bone, which, whether or not it's actually true, makes him seem more like a voice of reason.

I agree with Cable that I doubt Lucas really had that much to do with revolutionizing the visual effects industry. To be sure, he's bankrolling it, but in terms of creative input, I doubt he knows much about it. I agree also that he hasn't been sitting on his laurels. There is nothing easy about making a film, and he has written and directed three Star Wars prequels. The quality of those movies is not really what's at debate here, so I'm not even going to mention that. Whatever anybody thinks about them, I'm sure they took a lot of time and effort to create. And I suppose it's presumptuous of any of us to determine whether or not the man has changed. I do agree that he's changed in the way he thinks about his earlier works, and I'll defend my opinion tooth and nail that movies should be left alone once they're finished. Not just Star Wars, not just things that I like, but all movies. My girlfriend and I rented Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush and watched it last night. The first disc, the main attraction, was the 1940s re-release with sound, but I went straight to the special features on the second disc and watched the original silent version. But I'm letting myself get off topic here.

Anyway, I also don't agree that he's not making his own stories anymore, because, obviously he is. And I agree with Bizzle that maybe it is us who just don't like his stories anymore. Well, we certainly have legitimate cause to complain about that, don't we?

If the O-OT ever came out, the future of SW is with the PT fans.

I didn't know there was a war going on, and that movie fans were fighting in it. What's the goal of this war? What beachhead are we trying to secure with these front lines? What's the 4-F test these "kinds of fans" need to pass before they can have a helmet and a rifle?

Haha, thanks Bizzle. Most of that was meant to be satirical anyway. Or at least exaggerated. But there is a rift. The majority of fans do recognize the rift between "us" and "them" whoever the us or the them may be. And I actually find the prequels to be admittedly entertaining. But it seems like most posters in this thread, myself included, are in agreement to give up on all things Star Wars beyond getting the OOT. Therefore, the legacy of Star Wars will be carried on the back of the "them" who support the changes and the ongoing continuation of all things Star Wars. And like you said, I don't think Star Wars fandom is going to die out simply because of the prequels. There is no evidence to show that it's just going to die out because a lot of us here think the prequels are inferior. We're just, most likely, going to stick around here complaining and not really be an active voice anymore.

I'd be happy if he re-released the OOT and then decided to end Star Wars once and for all.

As the tagline for The Phantom Menace said, "Every Saga Has a Beginning". I agree. Every saga also has an end, too. Every story comes to an end. Film series, book series, TV series all end at some point because there's nothing else worth doing. Actors leave long-running TV series because they feel there's no more they can bring to their characters. Directors leave film series because they feel there's no more they can do with that world. It has to end sometime. I think he's holding on because he's scared to branch out. And I think we'll come to the point where Star Wars is basically like 24, filling in every single gap of time, finding out what every character does every second of his/her life. Please branch out. Please do something else. It's good for you. I swear.

To be honest, I too will stop paying attention to the future of Star Wars if the originals are ever released. In my opinion, there should be no future of Star Wars! The movies are done! The only future it should have is the memories of the fans and repeat viewings of the movies. The TV shows and whatever future changes just don't interest me in the least.

But with people like us gone, I suppose the only "active" fans will be the PT fans, and if Star Wars has to be continued to be milked, I don't want those kinds of fans up in the front lines with no opposition. Heh, I almost feel it's my moral obligation to continue balking until the end of time.

You know, in terms of nearly everything else in my life, I feel very young, but in terms of Star Wars, I feel very old because that's the group of fandom I'm lumped into. We're the cranky old crumudgeons who can't see the need for progress and flashy effects, and it's time we were put out to pasture. Bleh...

Yoda & Emperor PT vs OT
Time
As long as the subject has shifted towards "Stupid Things the Emperor Has Said and Done", I was never able to understand what the hell he was saying as he killed Mace until I watched my DVD with closed captioning on. "ULTIMATE POWER!!!" Uh, what?! Is it just me, or is that kind of a stupid thing to say as you're killing somebody. Okay, yeah, sure, it is pretty cool power, but, hypothetically, if I were about to kill someone who had just been trying to kill me and happy as punch that I had just gotten my lacky to chop off my enemy's arm, I'd be saying something much more personal. "ULTIMATE POWER!" just seems kinda random. Kinda like screaming, "FRUIT JUICE!!!" or "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER!"

Lucas's future changes for the OT to come... (with quotes)
Time
Eh, I have no problems with it. To be sure, the duel from Empire is still my favorite, but I always understood why the Return fight wasn't as good, simply because Luke was more mature, trying to save his father, blah, blah, blah. I always understood it to be more of a psychological battle, and the emotions still ran high in it. Of course, I suppose that maturity and non-aggression theory kinda goes out the window with the prequels showing every Jedi in the known universe indiscriminately kicking ass. But the few seconds where things are intense blow every lightsaber-based activity up to that point away.

Plus, the dark side can limit the ability of the light to sense things? I would of liked a bit more of a balanced approach to things. It seems like in the PT, the dark side is much more powerful.

Very good point. The rewards of the light side seem few and far between in the prequels besides seemingly the more noble thing to do. I guess it's kinda like white and black magic in RPGs, specifically Final Fantasy. But the power the dark side seems to have over the light side is horrible. "The dark side clouds everything." "Only the Sith knows of our weakness." "Our ability to use the Force has diminished." "The dark side clouds their judgement." Why can't the light side ever cloud the dark side's judgement? Huh?!

TV Shows on DVD
Time
I love TV shows on DVD. So far I have the first three seasons of Boy Meets World and the first season of Cheers. And unlike all the tapes of TV shows that I've recorded in my lifetime, I can have my marathons without worrying about what syndication and bad recording timing cuts out. Since I've been in college I find, too, that I spend more TV watching time doing this instead of watching current TV.

Yoda & Emperor PT vs OT
Time
Well, I haven't been to the official site in quite some time, but I remember it always used to say that prolonged contact with the dark side of the force caused him to look like that. With some stretch of my imagination, I was able to convince myself that that could mean p;rolonged contact with his own force lightning. I would have preferred something a little more subtle, bu t that's a bit too much to ask for, I'm sure. And I posted earlier today in another thread that I too thought that Yoda and the Emperor were above all th is swordfighting crap, that they'd transcended to a higher plane. I could see them dueling like they were in Sith but only to have the Emperor throwing chairs while Yoda repelled them. Seeing Yoda jumping around and sp8inng like a top just gets kinda old after a while and completely makes a mockery of his "knowledge and defense, never for attack" line.

Lucas Did Not Think about It
Time
You and he seem to be missing the point, though, Adam. The quote about black and white movies mentions nothing of artists' rights. The entire quote is talking solely about viewers' rights. The quote doesn't say, "I want these films to be preserved the way the artist wanted them to be." He says that he wants them preserved the way he as a viewer saw them, and he wants his children, also viewers, to be able to see them the way he as a viewer saw them.

And that's all the we want. So hypocrisy.

Well, after he believed he himself killed Padme, and he had killed the jedi, all he had left was his master, who he felt he had to obey. That's good enough explanation for me.

Once again, not seeing much choice there, which is the problem. He didn't choose the dark side. He just had nothing else going for him, so why not stick around for the next 20 years?

But I agree that we saw enough dark side powers for me to be satisfied. The only thing I didn't like is that every single Force-user is seen wielding a lightsaber. Yoda and Palpatine were the last two people I'd expect to use stuff like that, yet they end up in a duel against each other using lightsabers. When I grew up on the originals, I always thought that Yoda and Palpatine were just so strong in the Force that they didn't need to resort to hacking and slashing like the rest of them. They were on an ascended plane. "It appears that this contest cannot be decided by our knowledge of the Force, but by our skills with a lightsaber." If Dooku's line has any weight to it at all, it led me to believe that the lightsaber and the Force aren't really connected. The ability to use the Force contributes to one's fencing skills, but it's not necessary. To me, it just seemed like Lucas was giving in to a lot of fans', "Ooh, lightsabers are cool!" mentality by sticking them all over the place. And, yes, they are cool, but I'd much rather see Palpatine shooting out lightning at Mace and throwing Senate chairs at Yoda than being forced into hand to hand combat. I've always felt that it seems beneath him.
