Should Stanley Tookie Williams have been executed?

OK, call me weird, but I saw the title for this thread again, and I completely forgot what it was about, even though I just posted on it, and for a second thought JONH WILLIAMS was to be executed. So I was wondering why he deserved such cruel fate, and then I remembered what it was about.

Nonetheless, if John Williams ever gets the death penalty for something, his method will be stabbing a flute into his heart. And as he dies, a weak sound of the first notes of the star wars theme will come through the flute, as of a bit of blood.

I thought the same thing when I first saw the title of this thread, and I wondered if I was in the right forum! And then I opened the page and saw the poll. And I was wondering, "Geez, what did he do?! Is this about him not getting picked up to do the music for Goblet of Fire?" But that was a pretty interesting idea for a John Williams execution. Creepy but fun.

Best movies of 05

I'm a fan of the books, and the only problem I had with the movie was, as YIYF said, pushing this CHRONICLES OF NARNIA EPISODE I crap. Everytime someone asks me, "Have you seen Narnia, yet?" I respond, "Yeah, I've seen The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." I don't know. I really liked it. I thought it expanded the story very well. And it's nice that some events were actually portrayed rather than just talked about. I found it much more emotional to actually see Edmund get taken out by the White Witch rather than have Peter tell Aslan after the fact, "Well, it's Edmund who saved the day by breaking her staff, but she hurt him really bad." I'll probably get seriously flamed for saying that...

By the way, I've always been a fan of Edmund not only because he's the most interesting of the kids, but because my real first name is also Edmund. ^_^

obi wans name in ANH
Time
I, too, was always of the mind that Ben was his real name, and Obi-Wan was some Jedi name. I mean, that's how he's credited in the movies and action figures: as Ben "Obi-Wan" Kenobi, with "Obi-Wan" being in quotations. As another person who is not known by his real name but by a nickname, I know that you put your nickname in quotations when writing out your full name. That was always a big letdown to me when I saw The Phantom Menace.

But Scruffy brings up a good point I never thought of before. I guess it is a good thing that Luke had never been able to apply to the Imperial Academy. Geez, did Owen and Beru ever think about that? But I really think that Palpatine would have been familiar with the name Skywalker, and since Anakin changed it to Darth Vader immediately after joining Palpatine, it's no stretch to think that the name wasn't too well known. And I doubt the Emperor does his own hiring, so Luke could become some petty officer and never be found out for being Darth Vader's son.

It's on my list too! It had been nearly a decade since I read the book (although I'm reading it right now), but a lot of the scenes in the movie were just the way I remember picturing them. And from what I can tell, the movie adds a lot more depth to the characters and world. Too bad my local Weekend paper didn't think too highly of it.

"There's nothing wrong with arguing over aspects of the films. But arguing over whether or not someone is a cocksucker or a shithead is not allowed and just immature. Jay's message seems self-explanatory: no PERSONAL attacks."

"i dont think arguing is the problem. its arguing that results in people losing their nerve that is the problem. understandably, these movies inspire a great amount of emotion, being good for those of similar opinion and all the more bad for those of differing opinion. i would imagine the webmaster has read some of the altercations here and seen that they're not entirely instigated by that one person we all know, but by others too, and thats why he made this thread. ill certainly do my best to keep awayf from any personal attacks, and hope that the webmaster is able to identify those who simply argue and disagree for the sake of it."

"Arguing is not being criticised, but the lack of manners and social common sense."

So I think the general consensus is that there's nothing wrong with arguing, per se, as long as it has a point and doesn't involve putting down other people.

TV Land puts the holiday special at # 59 on most unexpected TV moments!

So did anybody watch #59 last night? I did and was sad that they didn't show any clips. They only showed pictures. It looks like Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher did the special, but it looks like Mark Hamill took a rain check on that appearence. Glad I've never seen it.

No, Mark was in it, but from the pictures I've seen, he just looks really... weird in it.

Yeah, I thought the same thing as I was posting that, that when movies are digital and not on film, it's not really logical to call them films anymore. Kinda sad. In my opinion, Phantom Menace's special effects looked the most realistic of the three prequels because it was on film instead of digital. The look is so clean on digital that the special effects stand out too much, but they blend in better on film. I hope I get a chance to work on movies before film dies out.

The Star Wars Saga - From a newcomer's point of view

In my opinion, it's an almost impossible theory to test unless you could wipe someone's mind, because you only get one first impression. If they watch all six movies in numerical order and hate it, you can't then show it to them IV-VI and then I-III and get the same kind of results with a clean slate. It just doesn't work. So if this girl liked the movies in numerical order as her introduction, there's no way to know whether or not she would have liked them better the other way around.

Sigh, I didn't start this thread so that everyone would bring their problems over here. Yet almost immediately, the bashing and namecalling starts again! And I agree with Jay. I think things have shifted, and Adam's getting more flack than he's giving. So I'm glad Jay's stepped in to do what I can't.

Let's just all get along, please?

As I prepare for my final final (less than 7 hours from now) for my Film Production class, I am reminded of something our teacher told us on the last day of class. He was talking about the future shift of movies from a film format to a digital format. Undoubtedly, George Lucas came up in this lecture. My teacher said that when Revenge of the Sith was released, rather than distribute the movie on a hard digital medium, it was distributed exclusively through a satellite feed that had to be downloaded by movie theatres, and that it was the only movie that had ever done it before. This was something I'd never heard before. Does anyone know whether or not this is true? If so, it would certainly explain the high number of bootlegs out for this movie, as it is entirely possible to "intercept the transmissions."

Fondest Memory from the OT Days

I fell into the hype in '95 at age 9 when the "One Last Time" Faces boxset was to be released. I'd already seen enough parodies (Muppet Babies, anyone?) and had been indoctrinated through pop culture to know vaguely what it was about. I knew who Luke and R2-D2 and Yoda and Darth Vader, etc. were, even though I didn't know of the Luke/Vader relationship. I awoke on Christmas morning to find the movie boxset and my couch covered in a neat line of the new Kenner action figures: Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, R2-D2, C-3PO, and Chewbacca. I never looked back.

Yeah, it's college finals. Sorry for going crazy like that, and I really don't mind the kind of behavior from Adam that most people find volatile (and a lot of the time I think it's simply because he's expressing a viewpoint different from ours, even though oftentimes I admit he seems to be trying to rile us up) if it leads to reasonably intelligent discussion of opinions, but when all it does is inspire, "Shut up, motherf****** c***sucker!" it's time something was said and done on both sides!.
