McCallum comments on the TV series and the prequel special editions
Time
Well, here's an argument for that, Adam. You say you're always big on canon, and whatever George decides to put in or change is what Star Wars is, the end, no argument, right? Well, in your earlier post, you said that you'd be looking forward to the TV series, "regardless of quality." Well, what if the quality is so bad that it introduces horribly stupid plot points and just, overall, leaves a bad taste in your mouth. You'll now have to accept it as canon, and it will always be part of the Star Wars universe. Wouldn't you wish then that he had just left well enough alone?

I like how he claims that no one in the fanbase had any complaints about the cause for Anakin's turn being love for his wife. Um, I'm raising my hand! Can't you see me? It's as frustrating as being in class, knowing the answer to a problem, but the teacher refuses to call on you!

And, lo and behold, it turns out that the TV series is going to be a convenient little loop hole for them to rectify all the plot holes they should have dealt with in the movies. "What about Ben and Owen?" "Um, we'll deal with it in the TV series." How much you want to bet that there'll be an episode where a 4 year old Leia has a Force-induced dream of Padme, waking up to say, "My mother is very kind, but sad."

Pathetic.

Time to grow up.

Eh, just a few arguments spread over a few threads of the board stopped being about anything constructive and de-evolved into bickering and name-calling. Most of it, I believe, is in the "Star Wars From a Newcomer's Point of View" thread which, at the time of this posting, is near the bottom of the second page.

Who hear thinks Jedi would have been more dramatic if Han Solo died?
Time
I think Han dying would be a nice alternative version of the story, but I like the way things are now. I really don't agree with Harrison's quote that Han no longer had any story responsibilities. I mean, there was still the Han/Leia relationship that was just getting off the ground, and that needed to be resolved. I mean, Luke being her brother was already a cop out enough, but having Han die as well... well, we'd just be getting into soap opera territory.

And YIYF, I don't think Lando should die either. Wasn't the idea that he would die just an urban legend anyway, not based in any kind of fact? I think Lando paid his price by sacrificing everything he had built up in his life. Bespin was everything he had. He had reached a level of respectability, and he abandoned it to join the Rebellion, not to mention risking his life to save Han from Jabba. I think he paid his debt to Han and then some.

SFX details you never knew were in the OT until you saw them on DVD?

From what I've heard, and from what nearly everyone else on this board says, the fault is not due to Lowry, but to Lucasfilm rushing them through the job. To be honest, I don't really see anything wrong with the DVD picture, but maybe that's just me. But don't start namecalling on Lowry when it's really LFL's fault for pushing forward a slipshod product. And I do call it slipshod because while I may not notice anything wrong with the picture, I sure as hell noticed the audio problems that were supposed to be a creative decision.

Best movies of 05
Time
Actually, it's hardly mentioned in Empire of Dreams and only in passing. The only time it comes up is during the start of production of Empire Strikes Back, where the narrator says, "The first movie, now dubbed Episode IV: A New Hope..." That's all that's said about it. It says absolutely nothing about what it was originally supposed to be called or why it was cut in the first place. Not saying your reasoning is necessarily wrong, but your reference is.

HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE

Yeah, the home market is much faster than it used to be, and that's simply because they start working on the DVDs before the movie is even released in theatres, sometimes while the movie is still in production. I was watching The Incredibles with commentary on, and they made some comment about having no idea how this movie was going to do, and I was totally floored that they'd go to all this trouble to make a DVD before they even knew if it was profitable. Now I understand that the real market really is in the DVD sales rather than the theatrical release.
