Yoda talking in OT vs PT, way different
Time
I noticed the strange Yoda voice too. To me, though, it was mostly in TPM. It's like they wanted to do the strange little creature voice used at the beginning of ESB because it was fun and memorable, and then they tried to combine a little of the seriousness, and it seems a little bit of the Muppet voice got in there too. So Yoda sounded like a squeaking Muppet disaster in that movie. He got better in its sequels, though, but it still wasn't quite the same as the original, and I guess that is simply because of the voice aging. I really don't see why in the world you'd want him to re-record those lines, though, Adam. You make my head spin sometimes.

Thinking of Fantasy Movies that came out during the OT
Time
I seem to recall an interview with Robert Zemeckis around the time that Polar Express came out, where he said that he didn't do movies aimed at kids, per se. He said that those kinds of movies talk down to the children, and they can figure that out. He said that the best movies for children are the ones that don't do things like that. The kinds of movies that anyone can enjoy.

'Merge' Article- Lucas in his own words

I wonder how he would have reacted to that!

"I don't have time to write the forwards for all my books. I never actually said that. I gave my publicist a rough outline for him to write it for me, and he decided to make up all this stuff about nine films, not me. I've since sued him for starting this rumor contrary to my vision, and my next re-release of the book should have it closer to my original vision."

Wow, I'm a bit surprised that you've gone back on your desire to have the Yoda scene in the movie. And the fuel scene thing would make the already too long opening sequence even longer. Plus, the whole premise of them swimming around the fuel tank of the ship just seems so... silly. And I agree that there had to be scenes showing that there was a war going on, but I just didn't happen to like any of them. It bored me so much that I didn't even notice the Wookiees the first time I saw the movie. But it's obvious the real reason it's there is not to show a war going on, but to show off Chewbacca. And the Obi-Wan/Grievous chase was horrible, simply because Grievous was such a crappy character, and that stupid shrieking furry lizard certainly didn't help me enjoy it any more, especially when I realized, "Oh, wait. They put that same sound in the 2004 DVDs. Now I see what they were doing."

I would never say that line was "wooden" or "bad". It's simply has a bit more flourish and formality than how normal people would talk. Similarly, you'd never say we'd talk like the lines that Shakespeare wrote or that people in that day spoke in blank verse either, but no one would say it was bad dialogue. Having Anakin and Obi-Wan finish each other's sentences.... well, to be honest, I don't even remember that line in the deleted scenes, so I'm not going to post my opinion on it.

Changes you want (or don't want) to the 2007 archival editions

I hate those stupid rings long before I knew what they were ripping off. The original explosions were perfectly fine. Now it almost seems like a running gag when every explosion has those stupid-looking rings emanating from it. If he's going to change anything else, make all the spaceships and asteroids explode with mini Praxis rings.

Yes, that's the exact moment I realized it had gone too far. That and, "To the forward command center, take me." Revenge of the Sith was much worse with lines like, "A prophecy that misread could have been." I actually had to think for a few seconds as to what that actually meant the first time I heard it. "If into the archives you go, only pain will you find."

"I don't feel that I write very well, but I think I do it better than most people." Just have to roll my eyes with disgust. Yoda was made into one of the dumbest characters.

Ok, maybe I will be blasted by posting this.

The thing about Leia remembering her mother, I don't have anything wrong with it, you know why? Because she may be talking about her adopted mother, not her bioligical one, lots of adopted kids , when they talked about their parents, they don't talk about their bioligical ones, they refer their adopted ones because it is them (adopted parents) who raised them (adopted kids). So when Luke ask Leia if she remembers about her mother, he does not specify if it is her bilogical or her adopted mother. To me, Leia is talking about her adopted mother, and that scene is totally right to me. I don't know why fans are so confused about it. That rotj scene works totally with me.

It's been a theory proposed many times. But it doesn't work in two contexts: it doesn't work in an emotional context because if we accept that she's talking about her adoptive mother, then the scene between her and Luke has no meaning. George Lucas may or may not have lost his touch, but I don't think he would be as ineffective as to do that. Which brings me to the second point: Lucas has stated in the past that the reason he wrote that scene in the first place was because he said he wanted one of the kids to remember their mother.

The pod race went on too long in its theatrical version. And I was appalled to find out that it had originally been much longer. But I was even more shocked to find them admitting that the longer pod race was too boring only to have them say, "But we added a lot of this back for the DVD." Dumbest thing ever...

And I do agree that the Jabba stuff went on a little bit too long, but it does fit into the plot, it does show off Luke's skill and leadership abilities, and Leia... well, I needn't say anymore, do I?

Best movies of 05
Time
Length is based solely on the content of the movie, so if one film is 90 minutes long, I can like it just as long as I like another film that's 3 hours long. The problem is when people try to tell 90 minute long stories in a 3 hour movie, or vice versa.

EDIT: By the way, I think Serenity has claimed my top spot for best movie of 2005... even though I didn't see it until 2006.

For me, ROTJ was only hurt by the prequels by them adding things like Hayden, the Jedi Temple, and Naboo into it. But if you simply take the real ROTJ, I think it's the other way around, that it hurts the prequels, especially ROTS, by telling how things were supposed to be then going back and contradicting it. But of course you could say, and I would say, that they hurt themselves that way by not sticking to the story.

what'a good age to introduce kids to star wars??
Time
I first saw the movies when I got the Faces set for Christmas in '95. I was nine. I was already pretty familiar with the universe, though. Star Wars had had a lot of pop culture references throughout my life, and I gleaned everything from those, most notably the Muppet Babies parodies from as far back as my first memories. I think any age is appropriate for Star Wars. It's cool to have it ingrained before you even quite know what it is. So when they get older, a deeper appreciation will develop, as well as a deep nostalgia for their younger years.

And please come back, greencapt. Who else am I going to talk with about Firefly?! And I don't think you ever found that quote you were talking about!!! ^_~

I live in Mississippi. And that sounds really cool, but I don't really have much more than $250 in my checking account right now, I'm sad to say. I wasn't able to find a job over Christmas vacation. Thank goodness for college scholarships, but I'll just have to see how my financial situation pans out first. Thanks, though.

About Princess Leia and Full Names
Time
When did Amidala become part of her name? Is it her middle name, or is it a double name? I thought that, even if a wife decides to hyphenate her maiden name with her husband's name, that the children still took the father's name.

And from the EU I've read, Leia didn't hyphenate her name with Han's. Organa simply took the traditional place of her middle name. So Leia Organa Solo, rather than Leia Organa-Solo.
