I agree.

I know it's been said before, probably on this thread... hell, probably by me, but it doesn't make any sense because it implies that Anakin was never redeemed. I'd go into more detail, but... I don't feel like it. But I do agree it was a crappy job nevertheless.

I think more people wouldn't even notice or care until they see someone on the internet tell them. I wouldn't have even noticed 99% of the SE changes if the internet didn't tell me what they were. First of all it's a 10 second scene and it looks just fine to me. What do you mean Anakin was never redeeemed? Hayden grew up into Sebastian, as seen when the mask was revmoved. Qui Gon learned how to become a ghost and taught Obi Wan and Yoda. At some point one/ both/ all three of them taught Anakin, probably after he died in episode III. The moment Anakin died was in Episode III. Anakin and Mace Windu died together. Darth Vader is who died on the Death Star, reverting back to Anakin after his death. Makes perfect sence. I hope this is something maybe an episode of the TV series elaborates on.

I think this explains it pretty well.

Anakin ashamed of what he did

I didn't say Anakin was never redeemed. I'm saying that the current version makes it seem like he was never redeemed, if you simply say that he died in Episode III. That's just silly to think. "The good man who was your father was destroyed." Yes, I know that quote. I can pretty much quote all three movies. Just give me six hours. But remember Luke's rebuttal. "There is still good in him." Obi-Wan's statement was an opinion. Luke's statement was an opinion. But at the end of the movie, Anakin says to Luke, "You were right. You were right about me." There was good in him. Therefore, he wasn't dead. He'd just forgotten who he was. Then he died. To say that Episode III was the end for Anakin, where he truly died, is a horrible affront to his character, and makes everything in Return of the Jedi completely pointless.

EDIT: Anakin and Mace died together? Enough of that jibber-jabber, to quote my good friend, Mr. T.

I actually prefer the DVDs and can't wait for more edits, seriously.

"Cutting the pieces off to make the puzzle fit"? I'm sorry, and I don't want to sound like a flamer, and I'm sure anyone on these boards can attest that I don't, but that just sounds pretty damned dumb. Please don't tell me you actually did this as a child! You couldn't figure out how the puzzle worked, so you simply made it fit? You see, in a puzzle, the pieces are created with the sole purpose of fitting together. If they don't fit together, then you don't have a puzzle. And you don't take your puzzle of the Golden Gate Bridge and try to combine it with a puzzle with a puzzle of the Statue of Liberty. They aren't meant to fit together, and so they won't unless you deface them. What the prequels should have been was the other half of the puzzle, or, no... a small little corner whose detail you can't quite see. Its clarification isn't necessary, but it would be nice to know what was in that corner. Those are what the prequels should have been. A part that's custom made to fit the existing puzzle. Instead, you have the orignals as the Statue of Liberty, and the prequels as the Golden Gate Bridge, and Lucas tries his damndest to make this implausible situation fit.

There's just no logical standpoint to it.

What If Ian Had Said No To Appearing In Empire Strikes Back?

I was hoping someone would bring that up. I really don't think there would be a breach of contract, because his contract, at the time, was for Revenge of the Sith, a totally different movie than The Empire Strikes Back, so I don't think he'd be obligated to do so. And I don't think Lucas whining about him being difficult to work with would jeopardize his career. He's a very well-established actor, and the Hollywood community looks down on Lucas anyway.

And Jenny, I have no doubt that he's a prince to his actors. But I'm just saying if Ian had simply refused to do it on the same principles that we adhere to.

Heh, sorry. And yeah, that would be awesome.

And, Adam, sigh. I don't even know what to say. Theredbaron makes perfect sense too. Listen to him. And even if we go with the whole I-VI chronology and "knew" Yoda, there's no reason for Yoda to be in that movie, so there is harm in including him. It's like sticking Jango Fett into The Phantom Menace or Tarkin into Attack of the Clones. They just don't fit with the story. Their stories aren't being told this time around. Be graceful about it.

"Rise, Lord Vader!" - my vision of ROTS
Time
First off, I just want to say that it is a great post, and I enjoyed reading it. Great ideas, and most of them are leagues ahead of the movie. But I'm not entirely in agreement, and as this is a message board, I'm sure you won't mind me spouting off some of my opinions. Right? Please? Debate's good.

My first point is, I was ecstatic in the movie that Anakin was renamed Vader before he adopted the suit. That's the way I'd always read it, and I'd always imagined the homicidal adventures that the original Vader had in his early days. But a lot of the fans found Vader to be so synonomous with the suit that I figured George would end up retconning it and not naming him Vader until the suit was on. The advertising did this, though, with lines like, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan." Pfft. Screw that. So that was probably my favorite part of the whole movie when Palpatine named him Darth Vader, simply because that was the one thing I really expected them to screw up. Of course, they ended up screwing up so many other things that I hadn't expected...

The only other problem I had was that I thought, in the movie, Vader never really came to that point where he embraced the Dark Side and truly became, well, for lack of a better term, evil. And I agree that the logic in the movie about Vader still serving Palpatine at the end was implausible. In my dream version, when Vader reawakened in the suit, he wouldn't give a crap about Padme. He's moved on. There's the tragedy. If you're going to keep the motive that he did all this for love (which I still find a bit dubious), have the irony be that, at the end, he hates her. He feels, like he did on Mustafar, that she betrayed him. Betrayed him for Obi-Wan, betrayed the Republic, whatever. So, once he comes to that, the only thing he has is his power, which he embraces. The Dark Side is his love, as corny as that sounds. He shouldn't still be whining about Padme. That was one of my hugest cringe moments was the first thing he asks when he wakes up is if she's safe. Be a badass! If he wasn't before (since this hypothesis is keeping in line with the official version and/or yours as much as possible deviating only where I feel necessary... if it were truly my own vision, it would simply be the greed and lust for power (like Obi-Wan claims, but I wasn't convinced) that caused him to abandon what he previously held dear), he should now be a loyal servant. And in that case, there's one deleted scene that would work well in this version: the one where the future leaders of the Rebellion meet with Palpatine, and when they leave, Palpatine subtly suggests to Anakin that he can't trust Padme. And now he should fully have convinced Vader that Padme betrayed him, not that he killed her.

Phew. Okay, that was fun. Thanks for starting me up.

I love you, Scruffy! And I mean that in a truly non-creepy way, but you just collected my thoughts in a concise and very humorous package. Everyone does have their entrances and exits. What if, in Rocky Horror Picture Show, you see scenes of Franknfurter walking around the castle before he appears to sing Sweet Transvestite? Then there'd be no shock when he pulls off his cloak and reveal... well, you know. Crazy. Just crazy. Next people are going to say that they want the Emperor to be in the original movie. Oh, wait. I've heard that several times, both from Jedikev (who seems very much different than the current kev... I find it very strange and maybe even suspicious, but I digress) and AWK. Let's not hear it again, please.

"Idiot with a flashlight fetish." Hah! Pure genius!

What If Ian Had Said No To Appearing In Empire Strikes Back?
Time

I was just wondering what George would have done if Ian McDiarmid thought like we do and refused to allow George to reshoot him for Empire Strikes Back. It’s funny that George has all the power in the world when it comes to his Star Wars empire, but he would be completely thwarted if Ian had simply said, “No. I don’t want to do this.” What do you think his reaction would have been? I can almost see him holding his breath and jumping up and down like a toddler until Ian agreed. Or maybe going on an LFL killing spree because he couldn’t have his way. Thoughts?

The Things We Hate And Love Thread .

I remember when I was a lurker, over a year ago. I kinda wish I'd signed up then, so I wouldn't be lumped with that huge influx of people who joined right around the time Revenge of the Sith came out, most of whom were brief flames only to be extinguished. But even though Sith was my impetus for finally joining, I guess I don't want to be lumped in with the preconception that the hype of the movie sparked my Star Wars interest.

Ooh, I think I should accept the nominations! I'm honored! I'm flattered! I'm... flottored! My first royal decree as Board Senior Incumbent (from this day forward known as its abbreviation BSI) is to make flottored a word!

In terms of posting, I am gradually increasing my average post count daily average. I'd hardly say that nearly six posts a day is neglecting the boards, but it's true it's not as heavy as some people's. But I doubt you'd rather have spam. ^_^

Han Solo vs. Indiana Jones. Who would win?
Time
Eh, but that doesn't really count because if the intended object is not to be killed, then George has no problem with Han shooting first. It's only if the hit actually kills its target that Han isn't allowed to shoot first. So my plan is that Han should just try to wound Indy, maybe shoot the gun out of his hand. And then he can dispose of him at his will.
