Favorite Game Shows?
Time
Yeah, that was a great show, sean. Before I knew of blue screen technologies, I really wanted to do that.

But I'm a really big fan of classic Family Feud, Password Plus (which I thought was better than the original, but Super Password was just a cheap ripoff), and Press Your Luck.

Does anybody remember the short-lived Comedy Central game show Beat the Geeks a few years back? I loved that show.

John William's Opinion on the Special Editions
Time
Heh, I've used that point in my arguments here several times. Back to the Future is my hero, and those DVDs are perfect! Even when the sequels were misframed, it was still better than the Star Wars DVDs. And Universal had the balls to admit it was a mistake and provide free replacements. I'm having a hard time respecting 20th Century Fox over Universal, not that Fox has any control over Star Wars, but it seems the products Universal ties themselves to work out a lot better. Universal replaces BTTF discs while Lucasfilm claims "creative decisions." Fox cancels Firefly, and Universal picks up Serenity. I like Universal!

Violence in Video games a fad?
Time
I agree with Luke. I'm a very peaceful guy in real life, but I have the most fun in GTA being a real "cop killa." The missions themselves are fun, but I often just create scenarios where I get the cops after me and see how long I can survive in a bloody chase. Think of those "Real Life Whatever Cop/Criminal Chase 5!" shows that they have on FX. Would I ever want to get in a car chase that would result in the deaths of hundreds of people and millions of dollars of collateral damage? Of course not! Fantasy. Not high art. Not fantastic storytelling. Just escapism. Nothing wrong with that.

But it's a very good outlet for frustration as well. I've gotten a lot of anger out by popping in a GTA or some similar game and just going to town killing people walking down the street. Does that make me insane? I don't think so. The fake violence allows me to vent in a safe way rather than taking it out by yelling or otherwise being mean to friends and family. Which seems healthier?

A Frightening Possibility
Time
I also find this a bit creepy. I can't say I'm entirely against modifications, as the contact lenses in my eyes can attest to. But I only want it to the point where it's a necessity. If, later in life, I have to have artificial parts put me in to keep my heart running or my hip swinging, then I guess I'll grudgingly go through with it because to me the benefits are worth the artificiality of a few parts. But I just know I'd feel paranoid knowing there's a chip in me. Plus, artificial hips, as far as I know, are just manufactured body parts with similar functioning to the original. This chip, while not serving any purpose that keeps my body functioning, would contain personal data of myself in it. And I just don't like that. It'd be like being a barcoded item at the local grocery store. One quick little scan, and you know who I am and other information about myself. In itself, it seems rather benign, but there is so much more that could be done with that technology if it gains acceptance, like the Big Brother analogies used earlier in the thread. And who's to say that these current chips won't have that kind of power embedded in them? I just don't trust it. The only part of my body that I want information stored in is my brain.

1885-The day that Clint Eastwood stopped Mad Dog Tannen's reign of tyrrany in Hill Valley, California and disappeared forever. I'm pretty sure YIYF did this one, but I'm not entirely 100% sure, so I'll add...

that, according to my calculations, that Chester A. Arthur was president at the time. No, wait, sorry, it was Grover Cleveland, as Arthur had vacated the office earlier that year.

I HATE THAT MY WIFE WOULD RATHER SPLURGE OUR MONEY INSTEAD OF PAY THE BILLS. SHE ALWAYS COMPLAINS ABOUT NOT HAVING MONEY TO PAY THEM, BUT WHEN WE DO GET SOME CASH SHE BLOWS IT ON STUPID CRAP.

I hate splurging as well.

I hate Daylight Savings Time. I hate losing that hour. And I hate it that they scheduled me to work at 7:00 AM on the day that begins Daylight Savings Time. Damn you, managers of GIANT!

I'M RIGHT WITH YOU ON THAT ONE. I TOO HAVE TO WORK IN THE MORNING. BASTARDS !!!

I love Daylight Savings Time in the long run because I enjoy the extra daylight. But I, too, have to get up early. I have a film shoot at 7:45, which will really be 6:45. But the extra daylight makes this one small sacrifice worth it to me.
