ITS HAPPENED-- OOT AVAILABLE FROM LUCASFILM
Time
Nope, he sure doesn't!

Wonderful post, Anchorhead. Good to see you back. The troll is long gone, by the way. It's going on three months now, I believe. So sorry that tore you away. And I totally agree. I don't care if the transfer's not as good. I don't need surround sound. As long as they're true to their word, and it's the original original original original theatrical versions (any of the original sound mixes) from '77, '80, and '83, then I'll be happy.

I agree that I won't be interested in anything new Star Wars-related, but I'm enough of a fan of the community here that I won't want to leave. But I also agree that we shouldn't just "lay down arms" until the DVDs are released. Anybody who wants to leave should at least stick it out until September, or at least until more details come out. Chaltab quipped that maybe we should rally for a boxset release, and I'm tempted to agree with that.

I'm sorry I am confused. I guess I always thought people made movies to make money. Lucas was never Santa Claus nor did I ever expect him to be. Sorry Santa is not real or realistic. I do think they are doing this to make the fans happy, but also because it is a way to make some more money for the company. Let me break it to you. 100% of all business works this way and personally I don't feel bad about that. I know that if my company started giving there product away I would be out of a job as I suspect most of you would be too. The price may be steep but all of us are going to pay for it, and after we pop the DVD in and see Han shooting first we will have forgotten how much it cost. Also they are selling the three movies separately so we will have time to space out the purchases if need be. Finally if you are not happy when you hear the reviews of the product I suggest you don't buy it. No harm no foul, at the very least you are in the same boat you were in before, I suspect however most of us will be happy enough. Plus I for one am confident that some enterprising person here will create discs that have the 5.1 surround sound and what not.

Yeah, that's why I said he wasn't Santa Claus, and that this was to make money.

Lucas saw the money that some were making on eBay and other sites and wanted to cut ($$$$$$$$) of the action!

Why else would they copy a T-Shirt that a FAN originally made!!!!!!!

And now that Lucasfilm has Copyrighted "HAN SHOT FIRST" those of you that are selling the merchandise have become "bootlegers"!!!!!!

Well, that's a bastardy move!

I agree with your theory, CO. Well, I'm not necessarily agreeing but thinking it's entirely possible. And I hope that zombie's theory is right. And I agree with 20th Century Mark that I hope it's a straight transfer. I'd rather have slightly reduced picture and sound quality that's actually the original version than a pristine 5.1 sound that has anything altered in any way. I'm simply afraid that their defintion of "cleaning up" the picture differs from my definition, and I'll come to find that the matte lines and other such "imperfections" have been removed.

It seems that we've been divided once again. There are those of us like Neil who are immediately suspicious. I admit that I am a bit wary myself, and, beyond my initial celebration, I won't be dealing out any praise until I pop those suckers in my DVD player and find out whether or not we've gotten what we've clamored for. I'm not suggesting boycotting them, because, as many have pointed out, we just don't know what it's going to be. But I'm also a bit annoyed with those who are immediately reversing every bad thing they said about Lucas (I admit that I said this when I first found out, but I've come back down to earth) just because of this announcement. There are still four months to go, and I really doubt that Lucas is suddenly standing around in a big, red Santa Claus outfit, chuckling heartily throwing down presents to all of us good kids who have waited for so long. I doubt he's happy about this at all. And I know if Santa gave me the exact opposite of what I wanted for ten years straight and then sent me a letter in April saying that I was finally going to get exactly what I wanted, I'd be a little suspicious that the fat bastard would screw me over again. So let's all just get a little perspective. The worst-case scenario is always possible with Lucas. On the other hand, we could finally be satisfied and rejoice in the streets. And I certainly hope that's the case. I'm very, very excited about this announcement, and I can't wait until September because of it. But let's not take leave of our senses until we know exactly what we're dealing with.

As long as they live up to their original announcement about it being the "original theatrical" releases of all three movies with no changes, improvements, additions, deletions or any other thing that wasn't originally there, then I'll be happy. Otherwise, they're lying again. I could care less if it's a brand-new transfer or not, as long as it's on DVD.
