I'm sure I won't. I wish you'd post in the ESB thread once more before you go, though (if it's not too late). I was making such progess against you a few days ago, but now it seems like we're stuck in a stalemate. I guess that's because I'm working now (had my first full shift today! tiring as hell but still pretty fun). We'll have to see how our epic struggle pans out.

Upcoming DVD covers

I agree. The IV, V, and VI labels were not used on home video cover art prior to the "Special Editions". Also, the "A New Hope" title was not used on home video cover art, or really seen anywhere except in the modified title scroll, prior to the "Special Editions".

I think I like the first ones in Falle's post best, for the front cover anyway.

Hell, the episode numbers weren't used until the 2000 Special Edition release. They sure as hell weren't on the '97 releases because no one started referring to them by their episode numbers until the giant "Episode I" campaign. And at least from the '95 release on, they were using the subtitle "A New Hope" in packaging, but it was little teeny tiny underneath the big "Star Wars," which is the real title of the movie.

But, yeah, I hate the episode numbers too. I didn't mind when he did it with the prequels, because, well, that's what he wanted to do. But when he started retconning the old titles, and I saw them in the same boring uniform logo style as the prequel logos, that's when I got pissed.

George Lucas on the O-OT

I think you have some pretty interesting interpretations, and I agree with a lot of them, but when he says "this trilogy" he is definitely referring to the prequel trilogy. If you watch the documentaries in The Phantom Menace, it shows a day in the life of Lucas from 1995, taking his kids to school and stuff like that. It was, specifically, the day in 1995 when he first started writing the script for The Phantom Menace. So it was definitely in his head at that point.

Oh, yeah, congratulations! Wow, I totally didn't even see that post. Grr. You're starting to gain some ground. Too many new threads lately (see: anamorphic fiasco) to keep up, so I scaled back posting a little bit. But don't worry. I'll kill you soon. Have a nice day. ^_^

Should Lucus make 4,5 and 6 over?

Heh, Darth Saruman. I love that. And yeah, that's what I was getting at with Yoda too. The spirituality of the Force is never really delved into in the prequels (the midi-chlorians pretty much killed that possibility). It's all about moving really fast, jumping really high, and having really cool-looking swords. And I admit they had some pretty cool fights, but if you bring Yoda and the Emperor into the fray, then you expect to see something different! Something sagey and guru-like. Instead, everybody has the same powers.

EDIT: And that's what I always used to think the difference was between Jedi Knight (hello, the word knight mean anything to anybody?) and Jedi Master. Masters were the teachers. They were higher up. Maybe they had been knights back in the day, or maybe they had taken a different path in the Force than Knights. That's why, I always thought, Obi-Wan could fight but managed to fail at training Anakin properly and why Yoda would have been a better choice. He was a Master. Training was what he did! Fighting was what Obi-Wan did.

Heh, that reminds me of Orson Welles's comment when Ted Turner wanted to colorize Citizen Kane. It was something like, "Keep Ted Turner and his damned box of Crayolas away from my movie!!!"

I'm not old enough to have experienced Star Wars in theatres, but I know the impact it had, not only on the industry (although I lack the first person perspective of that) but on myself personally.

The Empire Strikes Back Script Game
Time
I'm pretty sure I left out a line. It's been bugging me ever since I posted last time where this line could possibly go, but I think I finally have it figured out. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Vader: This facility is crude, but it should be adequate to freeze Skywalker for his journey to the Emperor.
Piett (I think, or it could be some random flunky): Lord Vader. Ship approaching, X-Wing class!
Vader: Good. Monitor Skywalker and allow him to land!
Lando: Lord Vader, we only use this...

And continuing on from there.
