Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I hate to say it, but, in all seriousness, I think LucasFilm does know its consumer base.  Granted, it's also responsible for creating this consumer base, so it's a vicious circle... but in the home video industry, the goal is to persuade consumers to buy what they've already bought before.  And for a fanbase that's largely as crazy as George, they actually get off on buying the movies repeatedly just to see what batshit insane, completely pointless changes have happened this time!  I mean, I can just imagine the nerds sitting around now, scruitinizing pictures going, "Ooooooh, look at those rocks around R2 now!  That's new!"

So... yeah, basically what we're doing, only happier about it. =P

Oh, I think I figured out how R2 got in there.  What ady didn't show us is the preceding footage where there's actually a hole above the cave.  In the last shot, R2 flies up in the air with his rocket boots, does a little figure 8 and a somersault and then lands deftly in the cave.  I mean, obviously it's to match the prequels.  It's like poetry.

Um... seriously?  Besides what bkev said about pointlessness, I'm having a hard time figuring out how R2 would even fit in there in the first place!

EDIT:  Oh, doubleofive beat me to it.  But, really, I guess we now know what they spent all those years working on.  It wasn't fixing the 2004 mistakes.  It was making hundreds of little alterations for the sake of making alterations.

Don't you guys get it?  George just has his finger on the pulse of the fanbase.  He knows how much everyone loved the "Nooooooo!" from Revenge of the Sith.  It was a worldwide phenomenon with websites devoted to it and everything.  So he decided to give us all what we wanted by putting TWO more of them into Return of the Jedi.  When he re-re-re-re-releases them in 2018, there will be at least five occasions of "Nooooooo!" in every single movie.  And you know that part at the end of the credits in The Phantom Menace that was originally Darth Vader breathing?  In 2018... it will be a "Nooooooo!"

Apparently your user title used to reflect how many posts you had made, which used to spawn threads like this to get people's post counts up. They took away the reasoning, but we still do it. ;-)

Yep.  I miss the Rankings thread.  Used to post in it all the time.  I remember the awesome rush on my first anniversary here where Yoda Is Your Father and I competed to reach the title of Jedi Master first.  So... in my first year I managed to accumulate 3,000 posts... in the over five years that followed, I haven't quite done another 5,000.  Weird.  I guess I'm getting old.

In regards to that, I think it's very indicative of the blinding arrogance that Lucasfilm has that their stated reason for breaking them into trilogy boxsets is not because *gasp* someone might only be a fan of one trilogy instead of the whole thing but because they might not want the bonus features.

But that said, I honestly believe that is at least part of the reason that the bonus features are kept off the single trilogy sets:  to entice fans to buy the whole thing and soothe George's ego at the same time.  Frink is right.  It is a good business decision.  Aside from a lot of us, Star Wars fans aren't very discerning customers to begin with.  They'll buy anything.  And for those that are a little more discerning, what better incentive to blow money on a prequel trilogy you don't care about than with the lure of deleted scenes you've been waiting almost 30 years for?

I wasn't going to this, but I feel I must.   I mean no offense but,  if you do not have the time or inclination to do the above, why continue to be a mod?  Sorry if I'm sounding like an ass, but I think its a valid point.

Not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I feel inclined to agree with Warb here.  Or at least, that was the first thought that entered my mind when I read the above.

What, are you lesbian?

I knew as soon as I wrote that that you were going to say that.  And as I've said many times before, for someone whose primary shtick is complaining that people don't read your posts, you sure as hell don't read, do you? (hint: look down at the bottom of every single one of my posts like C3PX and I have been constantly telling you to)  But, damnit all if bkev didn't already give the game away.  Darn.  We were having fun too, watching him constantly get that wrong despite us very obviously pointing him in the right direction every single time. =P

Anyway, the rest of twooffour's post is just his usual "I'm not the problem, every single other person in the entire world is," tirade that, if I'm not mistaken, is what keeps proving Frink's point to everyone.

Hmm.  I'll have to think about this one for a bit, Frinky.  On the one hand, you're absolutely right.  Twooffour is probably one of the most obstinate, delusional, arrogant, annoying, convinced-of-his-own-infallibility people I've ever had the displeasure of communicating with since my ex-fiancee, and considering that she just sent me a half-assed "apology" accompanied by a long, rambling letter of why she was still, in spite of that, completely right and justified about everything anyway... wait, what were we talking about again?

Oh, yeah.  On the other hand, yes, I've already long since stopped bothering to communicate with him.  Makes me feel all icky inside.  But I admit I do get some jollies in watching people like Frink and Mrebo debate with him and watching the hijinks ensue and the crazy rationalizing come out of his keyboard.  It will be a shame to see that go away, although I can understand why Frink has finally thrown up his arms and decided it wasn't worth the effort, since, as I just said, I went through the same process.

So all of that said... I'm not sure if I'll take the pledge of not.  But I'm certainly leaning in favor of it. =P

I guess none is right that no publicity is bad publicity.  Still, reading things like this, that some people actually are big enough assholes and have nothing better to do than this kind of crap... well, aside from the terrible negativity against film preservation, it's stuff like that that makes me really embarrassed to be a Star Wars fan.  The last thing I want is for people to associate me in any way with assclowns like those.

From what i have seen one way Tfn'ers excuse how bad the prequels are.
Time

Well, of course not.  No one's saying that.  But there does tend to be a correlation between the older fans or the proponents of those wanting the OT restored and people who don't like the PT.  It's just much more likely that people who want the original trilogy preserved are the same types of people who don't buy into the "saga" or the "prequels," or at least much more so than the other way around.  Add to that the fact that this is one of the few Star Wars places where people are actually allowed to criticize the prequels, and, yeah, you end up with, well, for lack of a better term, a basher's sanctuary.  But that doesn't mean that it's the purpose of the site or a requirement.  It's just the way it works out.

This may just possibly be the best post Frink has ever made.

Speaking of resentment where are the fans who want the 1997 special editions and theatrical prequels to be preserved, i do agree the oot should come first but Lucas lack of releasing any theatrical version of any of his films is kind of beyond bizarre, i add into the mix American graffiti and thx 1138.

You want the opiginal director approved versions of THX 1138 and American Graffiti they are not even on DVD, only laserdisc and Vhs.

Even Star Wars got a lousy Laserdisc port but that is more love than was shown those other films.

Yep, perfect.  I really do want a theatrical prequel set as well.  I put off seeing Graffiti for years because I didn't want my introduction to not be the theatrical version.  I never plan to watch THX 1138 if it's not the original, due to its changes being so drastic.  What is with that Lucas guy anyway?
