What did you like.......about the '97 Special Editions?

Hell, I even... oh, and I can't believe I'm admitting this, but at 11 years old, I even enjoyed "Jedi Rocks."  So much so that I used to run my ROTJ tape back and watch it over and over and over again.  Aaaaand I hate myself.

It's okay.  Girls can get away with those kind of flaws when they're young.  And now that you're older and wiser and still a big geek, it's just sort of cute.

I'm actually quite jealous- I could never get away revealing something like that.  As a guy, I'd get torn to pieces and ridiculed incessantly.

Well, in that case, glad I'm not a guy.  Apparently girls get to have more fun... at least with terrible musical numbers.

In '97, I liked pretty much all of it, especially the chance to get to see the movies in theatres for the first time.  As an alternate take to the movies, they were fun and fine.  Hell, I even... oh, and I can't believe I'm admitting this, but at 11 years old, I even enjoyed "Jedi Rocks."  So much so that I used to run my ROTJ tape back and watch it over and over and over again.  Aaaaand I hate myself.

Looking back now, what do I think was an actual improvement?

I like the added Luke/Biggs scene.

I actually prefer the new celebration music over Yub Nub and the inclusion of the shot of Luke and Wedge, although I don't like the CG planet celebration additions.

The restoration of the mono mix's "Close the blast doors" was an improvement that makes that joke work.

Aaaand I think that's about it.  I still think the most offensive change is bringing ESB to a dead stop during a tension filled chase scene so that we can see that Vader made it back to his ship alright.  Seriously?!

But in a general sense I agree with doubleKO.  The whole thing is offensive to me now, much more so than the prequels.  They've done much more harm than good and should never have been made.

Worst dialogue from...........AOTC!!!
Time

Yep, I was gonna say, "Around the survivors a perimeter create!"  Some of these lines for me only got awful after the initial glow of seeing a new Star Wars film wore off, but that was the line where, watching it in theatres for the very first time, I knew something was very wrong...  Or my brain had lost the capacity to process words because, damn, was that a toughie to even figure out!

From what i have seen one way Tfn'ers excuse how bad the prequels are.
Time

I agree with Puggo.  "Resent" is the word I would choose.  Yes, the prequels are pretty awful, but I do sometimes enjoy watching them (although I probably haven't watched any of them in at least two years).  What causes my resentment is the fact that they are infiltrating the other movies.  People like Katie Lucas bitch at us and say that if we don't like it, we can just ignore it.  But, no, we can't.  Not when the only modern release of the original trilogy is trying to shove prequel crap down our throats.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

All some of you have been doing is complaining about the blu-ray box set ever since it was announced and the set is not even out yet. Wait for the reviews to come out and then judge the box set for yourself's when the box set is out.  Sure their is stuff I want on the box set too like from star wars to jedi and the empire of dreams doc's but I'm not complaining that they are not in the set. Would it be nice to have the UOT in the set yes but it's not a deal breaker for me.

Well, the thing about that is that you're doing the exact same thing you're accusing the people here of doing (and I feel like I've said this before).  YOU are judging the boxset even though you've never seen it for yourself.  You're just judging it to be positive, while most of the people here are judging it to be negative.  Hell, I'd say you're passing judgment much more strongly than we are, as you're totally convinced it will be great, while a lot of people here are just skeptical.  And as more evidence that it will be 2004 all over again come to light, our judgments are at least rooted in fact (or at least observable evidence), while your judgments are, well, as I said, exactly what you're accusing us of doing.

Who has two thumbs, is working on a film out of town, and while there, has started up an amazing secret fling with one of his co-workers, and is coming onto the internet to brag about it...?

THIS GUY!

(You can't see because it's text, but I'm pointing my thumbs at myself.)

Oh, and apparently C3PX is talking about some kind of movie in relation to me?  Eh, I dunno.  I'm too busy bragging to keep up with this thread.  But I can guarantee that, for the next two weeks, I am anything but "tight lipped."  Heeheeheeheeheeheehee!

The problem with this is that what has been found, the "humdinger" is going to be misinterpreted by people.  Hell, it's already being misinterpreted by people who post HERE!  All those fanboys are going to see is, "We found this tiny little defect along the bottom of the screen for one frame, so we're not going to buy it," and they'll continue to label us as impossible to please, even though we've continually expressed exactly why that little frame grab is important.

I don't understand. What am I looking at in this screenshot? Is it the bad looking interface? What was the deal regarding the "Space boobs!" comment? I don't see any boobs.

Look at the bottom of the image.  Not to the interface but the actual film.  See that strip of barcode-looking mess?  That's what everyone's looking at.  Not necessarily deal-breaking in itself but proof that these are the same transfers as the '04 DVDs.  As for the boobs... I honestly have no idea.

@canofhumdingers: Yeah, you were the first person to spot that glitch after 7 years it's been out there, that's quite cool :-)

Oh and thank you Danny Boy for posting that picture, the glitch is much more visible there. Here's a screenshot from the HD version of that video:

Gaffer Tape's YouTube Reviews of Awesome Candy-Creating Goodness! (The Facts of Life/Star Trek III Conspiracy!)
Time

I've been too busy to keep up with this thread lately, but all of the Power Ranger commentary vids are out.  My newest piece, though, is:

Lance Reviews Who Reviews the Reviewers!

It's the final round of the contest (after nine months... finally!), and the three remaining finalists had to review the same thing.  I decided to be very meta and suggest we review the contest itself.  So, yeah, here it is.

If you've ever had a hankering to see me host a reality show-type recap while wearing increasingly flamboyant outfits (and, really, who hasn't?), then you'll enjoy this.

A Star Trek - Original Series Primer? ~or~ What 5 or so episodes to show an 8 year old to introduce him to Kirk and Spock?
Time

I think CBS took them down, although it was awesome when they did because they offered both the original and redone versions (only one guess as to which one I watched).

"The Naked Time" is probably a good one for a kid, just because of how silly it is, and it also gets some good Spock scenes.  Maybe "Arena" for its kitsch value.

Is Part 4 of anything ever good??
Time

Oh, I'm so sorry.  It's just that when you said I'd hit the nail on the head when I said that you would invalidate every contribution if Frink hadn't read a post of yours, I assumed that must be what you meant.  It's hard to keep up when you keep changing the rules, though.  I guess you just didn't read my post closely enough, or you would have caught that.  And if you can't keep up with an ongoing conversation, you really shouldn't be participating in it.  Or is that still the rule?  Have you changed that one yet?

RE:  Ziggy

Oh, please.  He's only admitted about two dozen times that he's doing this for kicks.  He knows it.  You know it.  We all know it.  I know we're not supposed to feed the troll, but this one is just so entertaining!

EDIT:  Crap.  I forgot to "back that up".  Oh, well, I suppose one direct quote will have to do for now.

I just like being blunter and snarkier than I have to, SOMETIMES, and I like offending people over NOTHING (go struggle with the wonderful irony of THAT).
