And I guess "reporters" begin editorializing when they are frustrated about the smallness of their writing talent/penises.

See? Anyone can make vast sweeping assumptions! It's fun!

By the way, Gaffer Tape, I sent you a pm - did you get it?

Oh, yeah. I got it. Sorry I haven't written back yet. My box is full right now, and I have to clean some stuff out before I can reply to anybody. It's rather late, so I'm going to save that for tomorrow morning.

Hahah! I bet MySpace stuff sounds a bit insignificant when you face the awesome power that is:

My 3,500th post!!!

You may commence with the congratulations, and I'll proceed to drop this high horse act so that maybe you will still feel compelled to congratulate me. Humble, humble, humble, that's me.

I'm an optimist, but I'm still beginning to think along similar lines to Anchorhead. And I think maybe you're putting a bit too much stock in Lucas's bitter words on MTV. After all, it was an interview, not a press conference. He hadn't planned what he was going to say in advance. Someone asked him a question, and he made it his point to bash the OOT. Maybe, "It will all come out in the end," doesn't really mean, "I'll be watching closely to see what the fans want." It might be more, "I'm extremely confident that no one will care about these movies, and I'll get to laugh in the geeks' faces when I'm right."

On the "original crawl" thread, someone linked to The Digital Bits referencing us. There was also another link there from MSNBC about ComicCon. It's found here (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14028216/page/2/) under Number 7: Star Wars Fans Are Always Upset About Something. So if anyone's getting their hopes up that the general media is going to side with us when these discs come out, this reporter paints a much different picture:

"In order to get a good seat for the 'Snakes on a Plane' revival meeting, aka the New Line Cinema presentation, I have to sit through an hour-long commercial for upcoming 'Star Wars' products. That’s the boring part. The not-boring part is the Q&A. That’s when the 'Star Wars' fans can vent their frustrations at the official Lucas spokesperson. Everyone’s got beef about something. And I realize at this moment that it has always been this way. “Star Wars” people use 'Star Wars' as a springboard for dealing with life. So when they’re frustrated with their jobs they complain about the quality of the print transfer onto the new 'Empire Strikes Back' DVD release and fight over giant promotional buttons that say 'Han shoots first!'

Reading this, even I am picturing chubby guys with goatees and nasally voices holding Jar-Jar action figures, stomping his left foot repeatedly and saying, "What about my needs?!" If this is the same mental image that the public gets... yeah, we're doomed.

The "original crawl" on the new DVD is NOT the original crawl! Screenshot inside!

Wow, nice research. Doesn't make things appear in a better light, though. I guess I should give tiny quarter props for them at least putting some effort in somewhere, even though we're still clearly not getting the original, which is what we were promised. Theatrical versions, huh? Let's see. Movie comes out in 1977. Crawl comes out in 2006. Sensing a problem here...

Especially since it would actually take more work to make up a trailer mock-up of the crawl if they were already planning on using the original. They've already shown they're not going to any trouble with this release, so it makes little sense to create something new only to be shown in a trailer for about 1.75 seconds.

Maybe we're wrong. And I hope we are, because this is really the main determining factor for me whether or not to buy this. There are others, obviously, but even if it's not anamorphic, and even if the picture isn't wonderful... well, I was still considering buying it. But this is flat-out deception, and I refuse to pay money to a company that so obviously lies to its consumers.

OUT Audio: Pablo Speaks

I'm again considering doing that. That's actually what brought me here in the first place, about nine months before I joined the forums. I almost got a set from Rikter, but then I backed out at the last second without following up for reasons I can't explain myself. I have no idea. Sorry about that, Rikter. But then again, I might just wait for the X0 project.

No, because the first two are in ANH and the last one in TESB!

However, the original mono mix for ANH had both C-3PO's "tractor beam" line and the "close the blast doors" line.

Heh. Wow, my mind sure checked out there.

Anyways, is the original mono mix for Star Wars considered the best audio track?

Back in the day, George said that it was the definitive track. It wasn't the original track. It was the last of the theatrical 3, I guess we can call them. So it had been tweaked a lot past its previous incarnations. I've listened to some clips, and a lot of it sounds very difference since it's not what I was raised on. Beru's voice is different, as is the Death Star time to firing range voice. As definitive as it was supposed to be, though, I guess George was afraid to release non-stereo mixes to the consumer market in the modern age since, aside from the lines you mentioned, most of the mono-specific stuff hasn't been reused since, as far as I know.

I just thought of another. The sail barge scene stretches credulity a little bit. I mean, Luke goes medieval on all those lackeys, yet there is no visible damage... ever! It's like he's whacking people with a police officer's nightstick. They get hit, are pushed, and fall. Apparently Luke didn't construct his new lightsaber too well because it can't even cut through flesh!

There was no Immaculate Conception idea in the PT, not as far as I can tell.

And thus starts another confusing debate between immaculate conception and virgin birth! Have fun!

Hehe, yeah, that one gets me too. In addition to that, though, is when Anakin loses his lightsaber. Obi-Wan catches it, puts it in the passenger seat... and it just sits there without any kind of motion at all.

Don't get me wrong. I'm certainly not bashing Christianity as a whole. Like I said, I am a Christian myself. If I didn't have faith in the organization, I certainly wouldn't be attending my church. I certainly don't believe that it's really corrupt. There are problems, but that is to be expected. Yeah, I said myself that Jesus utilized people who weren't upstanding members of society. I wasn't trying to label all Christians that way. I just felt like I needed to get that off my chest. I know that a lot of non-Christians complain that a lot of Christians are intolerant bigots. And some of that is true, so I just wanted to put in my perspective that, even as a Christian, I can recognize some of our own shortcomings. Hopefully, I can recognize my personal shortcomings as well.

I'm not going to say he needs the money, but you'll have a hard time convincing me that a lot of the products released are not created solely to milk the cash cow. Think about last year. Exactly a year after the '04 releases came out, they're repackaged without the bonus disc and released again. Less than a year after that, we'll have these new releases. If the general speculation is true, about eight months later, we'll have some stupid new uber boxset. So two and a half years might possibly see four releases of the Star Wars trilogy with so far no changes to the SE vision. If he's not updating the movies, what other reason can there possibly be than to simply make a quick buck off of them?

Well, I do believe the Bible, and I try to keep its commands. But, yeah, it is important to make sure you take the context into meaning. When it was written, what they were referring to. Several thousand years later, if you simply read these words without historical context, it can get kind of blurred. And I admit, lately I've had some questions myself about some things that simply don't make sense to me.

What I don't like about a lot of Christians through the ages is how they judge so much. At least around me, I haven't noticed it's as bad, but, obviously, throughout history, they've done some pretty crappy things. And I'm sure a lot of the things Christians have persecuted or ostracized others for are things that I also consider to be wrong. What I consider to be the key, though, and what those people keep on conveniently missing, is something that Jesus said, and I paraphrase: It is God's place to judge, not man's. I mean, it's a fundamental part of Jesus's history, of befriending and loving those who do things that are considered to be immoral, yet so many others who have less right to judge than Jesus can be real horrible to those who are different. And that's something that's always bugged me, especially since I'm really different as well.

Actually, I think that's what makes it the perfect example. I know the exact thing was done to put Hayden there in the first place. So basically they'd just be editing something that's already been edited. Which is my point. That's stupid. And it's the same thing they've done with the title. They had the original crawl. Then they replaced it with a new one. Then they took the new one and altered to make it look similar to the original. Same thing with my example. Original. Altered. Altered is altered to look like original.
