I think I'll leave it that way.

Wow. That's fun! He banned himself! That's a first, isn't it?

Anyone got the original 'theatrical' release of TPM or AOTC?

Yeah, I did say it didn't bother me as much. I mean, it's a change, so I have to hate it on principle. I still felt it was a bit unnecessary, though, as Qui-Gon's line gave the scene much more closure. Honestly, if I was the director or editor, I'd have a hard time cutting it, but I think, overall, it didn't really need to be there and did more harm than good.

After all, that's what deleted scenes are for. For most good movies, a lot of them are entertaining, humorous, or informative, and you yell, "Why did they cut this?! This is so good!" But you watch the completed film, and you realize there was really no place for it.

Yeah, I agree. I'm so sick of these special "Unrated" DVDs or "Extended Editions." Just get it right the first time or live with the best job you could do! I mean, filmmakers are the only people who get to go back and correct "mistakes." You don't see athletes going, "Uh, sorry. I messed up on that last play. That wasn't my vision of how it was supposed to go. I really think the fans will enjoy it better if I get it right. Do you mind if I do it over again?" No! You get your shot. You do the best you can, and then you move on!

I don't know. I'd say that anything that is added into a movie that makes the plot simply come to a screeching halt for it is something that negatively effects the pacing. At least, that's how I see it. I've only edited together short scenes for class, though, and I was never allowed to take anything out. But the scenes they edited back in were completely unnecessary. As if we really need to see Anakin and Jar-Jar fly to their next destination. As if we really need to know who any other racer besides Sebulba is. Take the movie Cars, for example. They didn't waste time giving a big introductory sequence of every car in the race. They only showed the three that mattered that mattered to the plot.

The "original crawl" on the new DVD is NOT the original crawl! Screenshot inside!

Well, except that there's not a demand that I know of for several thousand year old cake, it's really not that different. But, yeah, it is a joke. And once again, the ice cream kid analogy. And once again, my same refute. If any person goes up to an ice cream vendor and is offered chocolate ice cream and pays for chocolate ice cream and is given vanilla ice cream, he has reason to complain. Only in this case, it's vanilla ice cream with worms. I'm a vegetarian, so that's already a no-no, but I don't think I'd find worms palatable to begin with.

Or if it was a cake marketed as, "The first cake ever baked! This is the original cake, preserved to be with us today!" and then gave us a cake that was articifically aged to the point of being disgusting but in actuality being a brand new cake, rather than an old preserved cake.

Heehee, this is a fun game.

But Johnson knew what he had to do. He called upon the magical western properties of the Pikachu card he'd been dealt earlier. Actually, the back of the card just had the address of the nearby horse doctor written on it, but this doctor was especially gifted, utilizing medicinal practices at least 100 years ahead of his time!

The second change is something that's not quite as bad. I don't know, I have mixed feelings about it, but I still prefer it not to be there since it's a change.

When they first get to Coruscant, Qui-Gon ends the scene by saying something along the lines of, "We must meet with the Jedi Council. I'm afraid the situation is much more serious." I thought that was an awesome way to end the scene. But George decided to add in the rest of what they filmed, where Anakin isn't sure where to go. Qui-Gon waves him off. He gets into a sky car with Jar-Jar. They're taken off to Palpatine's building or wherever it is they're staying. And it's basically an excuse to show "awesome" CG establishing shots of Coruscant because, according to Rick McCallum, we hadn't seen enough of the planet to get a feel for it. Riiiight. The only thing I like about it is seeing Anakin's confusion at getting passed off and not knowing where to go, but it totally dilutes the scene and the transition. And, once again, it ruins the pacing.

Yeah, as funky as he looks, he still deserves to live. Although since Yoda's role in that movie is so small, I still think the stupid pod race additions are even worse. I mean, seriously, in the commentary, George says they were taken out of the movie because it made it too boring. "But now we get a chance to put that back in." I swear, that man needs tranquilizers.
