The Things We Hate And Love Thread .
Time
I've hated this weekend, for the most part. Let's list a few hates. I hate the fact that the card key given to me to open my apartment door (why we can't just have real keys instead of going the hotel route is beyond me) didn't work, and I had to stand outside trying that damned thing for about 15 minutes, wondering if I'd misremembered the apartment number, and I was at the wrong place. I hate the fact that our air conditioning is leaking, leaving a huge puddle in the entrance hall. I hate the fact that my room is the only room in the apartment whose ethernet port isn't working. Fortunately, they accidentally put us in a 4-bedroom apartment, but it's a pain in the ass to relocate my computer to the empty bedroom every time I need to get online. I hate that I'm exhausted from having auditioned all day for the past two days, and that going to classes tomorrow might be a relief compared to this.

Find me a kid who hasn't gained the skills to read yet knows what morphine is, and I will buy him a car!

Go to the Child Intensive Care Unit at a hospital and bring the keys.

But once again, would children too young to be able to read really know exactly what kinds of drugs they're taking? I'm keeping the keys.

General Batman Talk
Time
The first part has a title that sounds like a 4th grader made it up.. "Batman Begins"... and then the second film has something mysterious, slightly gothic, and serious in its title called "The Dark Knight"... "Batman Begins" - "The Dark Knight" just doesn't have any titular compatibility! I'd be happy if it was just "Batman: The Dark Knight" that would give some continuity... or if the first film was called something like "Rise of Vengeance" THEN would "The Dark Knight" fit in. All right...

And does calling the second one Begins make any sense at all, considering the fact that it already began?

Not really. Leitmotif would suggest that it be an arrangement of Anakin's theme or the Force theme, since both Anakin and the Jedi Knights were the stars of the PT. Of the two, I favor the Force theme: Its use in the OT is almost always retrospective or sad, recalling the doomed heroism of the Jedi. An upbeat, brassy version of it in the PT would be set up a nice emotional counterpoint with the more restrained version we hear in, e.g., "Tales of a Jedi Knight." If you want some completely different ideas, I can check out my humble film score collection for a temp track -- but it's really hard to second-guess John Williams.

Yeah. It could be similar to the version used in the Throne Room at the end of Star Wars.

Was there an ESB arcade game?

Anyone here ever play X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Their Finest Hour:The Battle of Britian, or Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe? They were the best in the genre back in the day.

While commenting on the Falcon's cockpit being in the middle of the plane, In that game, your lasers can shoot down probe droid transmissions. I didn't know that transmissions were something that you could shoot down.

Heh, point taken. Somehow, I didn't even notice that humorous error while looking at the screen shots.

I see drunk people...Haley Joel Osment charged with drunken driving
Time
Geez, is it any wonder why I think alcohol is stupid? But Haley Joel Osment with weed? I mean, that's a twist that not even M. Night Blahblahblah could pull off! Sadly, I think this is going to seriously affect Mr. Osment's career (maybe even more than puberty). I mean, you can't have that kind of Richie Cunningham face and come close to spending time in the slammer. Richie Cunningham did not do drugs! That's all I have to say!

I'm with you Chaltab. I have no intention of seeing that movie. I must admit that part of me is curious and part of me wants to laugh at it. Also, part of me doesn't want to severely criticize something without seeing it. But above all that, I believe this is a crappy movie, and I don't want to pay $8.00 and encourage studios to make more crappy movies.

POLL: WORST ACTOR OR ACTRESS IN THE PT?
Time
Originally posted by: THX
They were all pretty bad. Some actors (Hamill, Fisher, Ford) can handle less direction than others. Lloyd & Christensen were awful. McGregor seemed better by comparison but really wasn't good. Neeson was okay. Ian McDiarmid was the best in TPM & AOTC, but had some major cringe moments in ROTS. Overall, Christopher Lee was my favorite. He would've made a good emperor (in ESB & ROTJ).

But sadly, his was another character that was just underdeveloped. Sure, he was the best developed of the apprentices, but is that really saying a lot? He just sort of pops out of nowhere in AOTC and is introduced as this man of mystery. Is he the bad guy? Or has he found enlightenment? Did he order the clones? So much unexplained about not only his motives but who he really is, other than a former Jedi who traded in his robes for a cape. He could have been so interesting.

Hey, has it ever stopped me before? Besides, like I'd give up a chance to for you to eat my dust.

EDIT: And thanks, Number20. Yeah, I'm starting my junior year of college. Hopefully this is my year to get a lead role on a mainstage show. I've gotten minor roles in mainstage shows and major roles in fringe (student-produced and directed) shows, and I've gotten callbacks for major roles in mainstage shows, but never has that elusive combination come to me. Well, with the exception of last year's Christmas show, but while I had fun, it wasn't so much acting as singing/musical revue, and nobody (except me) really had any respect for it, not even the people who were in it. At the end of the year theatre banquet skit, it was joked as being, "brief and forgettable."

Yeah, you're right. Only problem is I can only use 24 bars, and cutting that song just doesn't do it justice. And yeah, Disney has turned its back on musicals... and traditional animation *grumblegrumble*.

And I was really hoping you wouldn't notice that I was starting to close in on you again. Of course, it probably would have been smarter if I hadn't announced it to the world. Yeah, I failed stealth class in my ninja training.

And I have no problem capitalizing Ls because L is a kickass letter. I happen to be fond of it.

1. It's not a problem. It is break a leg. No harm done. I don't truly believe in superstitions, but I'll take all the help I can get.

2. Thank you. I was hoping someone would say that. I needed a confidence boost. And I was hoping it would help me stand out, which is what you want to do.

EDIT 2 (because you just had to edit): Yeah, that'd be fun too, but I don't know if I could do it without imitating a Sebastian voice. Besides, it's not in the book of sheet music I just bought.

3. Ah, okay. Thought maybe it was some "cool" thing I didn't know about.

So Who Killed Palpatine, Anyway? (This thread is made from 100% post-poster recycled bandwidth)

You just gave me a wonderfully delightful mental image of the dramatic scene in which the Emperor is frying Luke. The music swells, and then all of a sudden a lead pipe flies onscreen from out of nowhere and hits him in the head, and he falls to the ground. The music abruptly stops. Cut to the shot of Luke looking up confused.
