Is there anything you do like about The Prequels...

I have to agree there. I admire what they were trying to do by having the sound effects be the driving emotion, but it just didn't work in my opinion. I only started to get interested in the last lap when they introduced the score, and the conflict between Anakin and Sebulba reached Ben-Hur proportions. Before that, it was honestly just a bore.

Probably not. You bring up a good point, but I just can't explain why the Death Star trench run is always exciting, and the pod race often gets boring. Once again, especially the extended version on the DVD as opposed to the real version. With that in mind, the Death Star trench run gave very brief introductions to the pilots you'd be seeing during the battle, whose feats you'd continue to see throughout the battle, which determined their characters and made you feel attached to them. Except for Sebulba and Anakin, I never felt compelled to care about anybody in that race. When you add in that stupid introduction ceremony that slows the pacing to a crawl (hmm, interesting that Mr. Fast and Intense seems to have a knack for bringing the pace to a complete standstill during key moments), it becomes even more ridiculous, since he's now actively trying to get you to care about these characters, but it's even less effective (and much more annoying) than the very brief pilot introductions during the trench run. Just some food for thought.

It just feels stupid and useless, just to show what ILM can do (which isn't even very impressive)... And the extended race. That was the worst DVD change in TPM! At least in my opinion.

Well, we share the same opinion then, because I thought the pod race in the theatrical version was quite long enough, and the extended version was just a bore!

But I liked the music

The... Crap! I could have sworn I had a list prepared, but suddenly I can't think of it! I'm sure it will come to me later.

Well, I gave Wind Waker another shot. The single most frustrating thing to me is still the camera control, which is evil if you are tight in the corner or a wall. The camera at that point just does not know what to do with itself, and centering it does nothing of any value.

Other than that, I've made some progress. I finally got the sail and am learning how to handle the boat. The nav system is...ok, though a little frustrating. The environments are BEAUTIFULLY rendered...makes me want to dive in for a dip. The only GC game I've seen that is better in terms of the environment is SMSunShine.

This is the only Zelda game I've played since the original, and it's been difficult for me to make the jump from 2-d "overhead" view to 3-d third-person. I miss the original music and some of the sound effects, but on the whole the game is pretty good. I thought that after years of playing more realistic games on pc that it would suffer, but I was wrong.

Yeah, Wind Waker was a toughie to get used to. It took me a good hour just to get myself acquainted with the camera - but stick with it because it pays off. It's an amazing game.

Did anyone else download OOT off of the Wii's VC? I played it for about an hour last night and noticed that when you press start to go into the save/item menu, the music glitches a tiny bit, like there's a crackle on it which is not a problem on the N64.

Also, is this the Master Quest version? I played through OOT on the N64 in December (it's been a while since I fired up the Master Quest disc) and last night I noticed something seemingly different. It's way harder. Could just be the controller, but I noticed that when you first leave the Kokiri Forest to visit the Deku Tree, the Deku Baba that attack keep growing back. I thought that in the original version you killed them and they didn't come back until you left the area...

You're right. That music problem is not there in the N64 version, but it's definitely there in the GameCube version. Settle a matter of curiosity for me. What color are the action buttons on the screen in the VCS version? In the N64 version, A (Action) was blue and B (Sword) was green, to fit with the N64 controller. The NGC version had A as green and B as red to fit with that controller scheme. Which one does the VCS version use? Or is it a new color scheme altogether?

As for the Babas returning, I recently played the game (both on N64 and NGC), and I recall them respawning in every version. And like Nanner said, only the dungeons were altered for the MQ. Nothing else was changed (except for the crescent moon, Fire Temple music, and blood that had already been altered in later cartridges as well).

Scary isn't it?

It is but then again when you've been to college and seen that 99.9% of all women are total superficial immoral treacherous snake sluts it doesn't seem that shocking.

If you're referring to this quote, skye, while 99.9% might be a bit exaggerated, I have to admit that at least a great majority of the girls I see at my university seem to fit that sad description. Glad you're not one of them (and I certainly know some wonderful girls who don't fit that bill), but that doesn't mean the statement is untrue.

I agree with them too. I can go on all day about the deficiencies in the prequels, but I'll still watch them, and I'll still enjoy them, considerable flaws and all. Do I think they're on the same level as their predecessors? No, and I realized that the first time I saw the end credits roll on The Phantom Menace when I was 13. But I saw all three of them in theatres, and they were fun nonetheless... although it was especially fun to sit in the theatre and make fun of Revenge of the Sith the second time I went to see it. I have to say that that one had parts that were so bad that even the excitement of a new Star Wars movie didn't keep it immune from my ridicule even before it left theatres!

Those jokes were totally scripted, and delivered so poorly that they were obviously scripted.

Two words - FAT NECK!

This is about the fat neck comment, I don't know if you know this or not, but his "fat neck" is caused by a lack of iodine and is called a goitre. Here is more information about it: The most common cause for goitre in the world is iodine deficiency (E01); this condition is commonly called endemic goitre. It is curable by mass food-supplementation with iodine (in the form of iodide or iodate). It is an actual medical condition, and shouldn't be taken lightly or made fun of. Please don't make fun of something like this.

If it's so easily curable, how come he hasn't done anything about it after all this time?

And why Lakitus hang out in Jugem's cloud... ^_^

But as for Nintendo Power, I stopped buying consistently around '98 or so, and from what I've seen lately, it's gone substantially downhill primarily because it's now infested with so many ads, just like any other magazine. Remember the old NP where it was just content? Say what you will about that content, but at least it wasn't interrupted by ads in the middle of articles.

Well, honestly, I think that the whole "evil mushroom" thing was just something the English localization team came up with for their instruction manual to SMB. Notice how they're rarely referred to as that in any recent game. And take the Goombas' real name: Kuribo, which is a pun on the Japanese word for "chestnut" (similar to Kuririn or Kuriza from Dragon Ball), and you might start to realize where these people were going with this.

I don't know. I know they're just doing their job, and a lot of celebrities do act batshit at times so that it's probably natural that their antics make the front page, but I do wish they'd leave celebrities the hell alone. First of all, it's annoying to me, especially when every stupid thing a celebrity does is called "news." Hell, I'm on the cusp of being involved in film, and I consider the phrase "entertainment news" to practically be an oxymoron. Second, and most importantly of all, they are people just like any other people, and they don't deserve to be hassled and followed and photographed all the time. Hell, if they cut it out, it might give the celebrities less of an incentive to act like idiots!

When I opened this thread, I was afraid all the replies would be senseless flaming about "oh noes, not another fare thee well thread! attention-seeking whore!" because this is definitely one that's done right. Not that I'm at all happy that ric is leaving, but at least he's doing it with some class. He's not just leaving without saying anything, and his thread wasn't a bunch of vitriol of mudslinging and getting in the last word. I'm sad he doesn't think there's anything left here worth sticking around for, and I wish he didn't think that, because I don't think that. I don't think it has ever gotten to that point. Except on most Saturdays, I always come here to find at least something interesting worth talking about. And that's really all I need from this site. So, bless you, ric. I know everybody here is going to miss you. And I hope you'll be back soon (but not too soon or you'll start getting all those accusations that this thread was just an attention-getter )

I had never even heard of it till long after the N64 was out. I remember it was still $60 bucks when most other SNES games were falling below the $30 dollar mark.

I don't know why, but for some reason I could have sworn you said you were from Europe. Sorry 'bout that. But, yeah, it came out early '96 because I remember at the end of my 4th grade year (95-96), a boy had his birthday party at class, and he got that game.
