It felt like the trailers were being treated as part of the actual story to save time. But if you watch just the movies, it comes out of nowhere!

I love DominicCobb’s alternate title crawl. It saves the reveal for the actual film, when Kylo-Ren finds him.

Another option, as many have said, is to plant the seed at the end of TLJ. One thought I had is that so much is made of the Resistance sending out a signal for help, and no one answering. It’s reinforced again in TROS. What if they did get an answer, from Palpatine? The radio crackles, and maybe we just hear his iconic laugh. Just a tease at the end to build up anticipation for TROS.

I’m not sure how you’d do it visually. There are a few shots on Crait of the radio and Leia looking disheartened. There’s the shot just before the door is blasted where Leia is looking around the base and the radio is saying “the cannon is warming up now”. The look on her face would also work for the shock of a surprise transmission from Palpatine. You’d have to move the shot to after the climax, though, as you can’t interrupt TLJ story with Palpatine. I don’t know how well that would cut together.

Kylo-Ren is also in the radio room later where he finds the dice. Maybe that’s the time to do it. You hear some crackling and cut to closeup of the radio, where Palpatine’s laugh starts coming through. Then we cut to a closeup of Kylo-Ren with either a look of surprise, confusion, or a simple head turn, reinforced with Palpatine score. This would actually match up well with DominicCobb’s new title crawl, as it provides motivation for Kylo-Ren to search “for the source of his former master’s dark power”.

I have an even better idea: replace the rest of the end credits music with Darth Sidious’ speech from Fortnite, and before we fade into the Lucasfilm logo, we’d hear his laughter from the teaser for The Rise of Skywalker.

Yes, I know that Leia has always been Force-sensitive since The Empire Strikes Back (remember when she sensed that Luke was in danger of falling off of the bottom of Cloud City and she had to rescue him?), but today I’m going to explain why the fact that she is Force-sensitive completely undermines the entire quest to find Luke in The Force Awakens.

In The Last Jedi, Leia is seen seemingly flying in space towards the Resistance flagship, with zero build-up to her being this suddenly powerful Force-user at all. In The Rise of Skywalker,

it is revealed that Leia trained under Luke and built her own lightsaber, and she trained Rey as a Jedi after the events of The Last Jedi.

We all know that when you’re Force-sensitive, you automatically have powers. In fact, we see a kid use the Force to pull a broom at the end of The Last Jedi! Since Leia is Force-sensitive, the Resistance wasted their time and resources looking for Luke, even before he refused to go with Rey. The deaths of Lor San Tekka and Han Solo were pointless. So why did they need Luke Skywalker if Leia was always Force-sensitive?

TL;DR Leia being Force-sensitive, especially in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, undermines everything that happened in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi because you automatically have powers when you’re Force-sensitive, and the Resistance never thought about needing Leia as the Force-user they’ve been wanting instead of Luke Skywalker.

The crawl establishes that the First Order is intent on killing the last of the Jedi. This is the most important thing for them, though it is unclear why.

The Starkiller is multi-purpose. The interior has been hollowed out through mining to supply the ores necessary for the First Order/Palpatine’s fleet. After this it has been retrofitted as an experimental weapon by ambitious First Order leadership spearheaded by Hux. The fact that it was first used as a forge could be a mystery in TFA or only hinted at, but explained later on.

After Kor Sella is sent to the Senate the base begins charging, and everything from Restructured happens as planned except that the base is destroyed before it can fire like in the original. The Republic is not destroyed.

There are hints as to the true size of the hidden fleet and their provenance, perhaps placed into one of Rey’s visions or in Kylo’s interrogation of Poe.

TLJ

The crawl establishes that Kor Sella’s mission to the Senate has been a success and the Republic is in the process of relocating its fleet to D’Qar to bolster the Resistance forces.

However a Star Destroyer appears before the fleet is fully assembled and wipes out the planet (This uses footage from TROS and TFA). Only a few ships escape to join the Resistance, and these, we later learn, were tracked.

Cut to the island where Rey tries to convince Luke to join the fight. She doesn’t know that the Republic is gone, so doesn’t tell him that the First Order is on the verge of victory. Since Luke isn’t connected to the Force he can’t feel such a loss anyway.

Cut back to the Resistance base and Hux’s forces arrive to cut off their retreat. Cut the jokey attitude of the Resistance characters to match the grave knowledge that the Republic has been destroyed.

The film carries on much as before except that the final scene shows Kylo Ren finding Palpatine and his fleet instead of showing the Broom Boy scene.

TROS (or THE FINAL ORDER)

The crawl states that the First Order is moving quickly to gain control of the galaxy.

The first scene is Palpatine’s message to the galaxy. The full threat of his fleet is revealed.

Our heroes rush to find the Sith artifacts required to locate the Sith planet, etc.

The defeat of the First and Final Orders shows a montage of planets rejoicing, prefaced with Broom Boy relating Luke’s inspirational visage which reignited hope in the galaxy. This is bookended by him walking outside and seeing a First Order Star Destroyer broken and burning in the night sky above.

Rey visits the homestead. End Credits.

Don’t forget to have Snoke be a follower of Sidious instead of being his creation. Simple, have it be mentioned in the opening crawl of The Force Awakens: The Starlight Project that “the First Order was formed under a follower of Darth Sidious.” Also, insert foreshadowing in Return of the Jedi that Sidious has been extremely weakened, keeping Anakin’s original sacrifice intact, and remove the Chosen One prophecy from the prequels altogether so that adding more dark-siders into the sequels wouldn’t ruin Anakin’s sacrifice.

I have some ideas:

• Remove Snoke altogether from VII. Kylo is the leader of the First Order. Insert the scenes of Kylo meeting Sidious into VII.
• The Battle of Crait takes place around the exact same time Rey faces Darth Sidious. We remove Ben from the final battle with Sidious (digitally and cutting-wise) since he’s at Crait and facing Luke’s projection. When Luke reveals that he will not be the last Jedi, we cut to a wounded Rey hearing the voices of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Ahsoka (we remove Mace’s voice, since he never learned how to become a Force ghost), and getting up as she confronts Sidious one more time. When Luke is revealed to be a projection, after Kylo says “NOOO!!!”, we cut to Rey fighting Sidious as she uses the lightsabers to reflect his Force lightning, causing him to disintegrate once and for all.
• Luke lives and Rey dies.

I was thinking about what changes needed to be made to the other films to remove Rey Palpatine, and I think one of the biggest things would be to cut Ochi’s ship flying away from Jakku in the TFA flashback.

I remember awhile back I had this idea of creating a new shot to replace that one in TFA, instead we’d see two people disappearing over the top of a sand dune, with the sun in front of them (making them dark silhouettes).

This could parallel beautifully with the end of TROS if you had Ben Solo live and meet Rey on Tattooine. We could see his silhouette coming towards her over the horizon, with the twin suns rising behind him. Not only would you get a reversal of that classic “cowboy riding off into the sunset” cliché (which Gary Kurtz wanted for Luke in ROTJ), but these two parallel shots would also be a nice callback to this line in TFA:

Whoever you’re waiting for on Jakku, they’re never coming back. But, there’s someone who still could.

Why can’t we just assume it’s Rey’s parents abandoning her?

Has anyone ever considered ending The Last Jedi with the shots of the First Order’s defeat throughout the galaxy (meaning that Luke’s sacrifice truly has inspired hope across the galaxy), before we see the new Resistance base and the final Tatooine scene (without “I’m Rey Skywalker!”)?

On the topic of horrible ideas in Star Wars, I’d say the concept of cloning in this entire franchise. It creates massive plot holes, like why did Darth Sidious turn Anakin Skywalker to the dark side if he could just easily clone himself and then turn said clone to the dark side?

The purpose of my edits is to make a feel of one cohesive saga, as much as possible.
So I added flashbacks from prequel movies and tracks from Episode III and Rogue One.
Also, enhanced Force ghost effect and changed background color (less blue, more green).
Still needs some work, but please tell me what you think of it as a concept.

I thought you said you wouldn’t put in stuff that looks too modern (e.g. the Obi-Wan vs. Vader remake) in comparsion to the other stuff in your original trilogy edits?

Also, do you plan on changing the Force ghost effects to be more like… (The Rise of Skywalker spoilers ahead)

Well, SW isn’t based on a book or a comic or anything like that, so technically there’s no reason why you can’t change things or add to it retroactively. Also the emperor wasn’t really given much importance until the PT expanded his motives and abilities, so considering all that’s been added to the franchise in the decades since ROTJ him coming back really isn’t that strange.

Also I don’t get the whole “it undermines X-plot-point” argument. TROS doesn’s change any of the character stuff that happened in ROTJ, and going with the Middle-Earth analogy; Sauron was killed twice and just because they had to do it again later it didn’t undermine what Isuldur, Elrond, etc. accomplished a few millennia prior to LOTR.

Lack of originality aside, I don’t see how the ST breaks any in-universe logic.

Ehm, I think TROS and its predecessors undermine pretty much the entirety of ROTJ, except for Vader’s redemption.

Well, that’s really the most important thing, which is why I don’t really mind the ST that much. Though I still wouldn’t say the that First Order, Starkiller Base, etc. “undermines” anything so much as its just lazy writing. It works, it’s just underwhelming and something else would have been much more interesting.

The First Order undermines the original trilogy because they’re the Empire reborn, meaning that the Rebels never actually defeated them in Return of the Jedi.

I have some ideas:

• Remove Sidious revealing that he created Snoke, as well as the shot of Snoke bodies in the bacta tank or whatever. Make a new opening crawl for The Force Awakens mentioning that Snoke was some dark-side warlord or whatever and formed the First Order, modeled after the Empire.

• Remove the shot of Rey and Ben kissing.

• Remove every single mention of Rey being Sidious’ granddaughter.

• Remove the audio clip of Mace Windu, because neither Qui-Gon or Yoda taught him how to become a Force ghost.

• Insert Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Yoda at the end with Luke and Leia. (No, it shall not be footage from the previous films, so it wouldn’t be obviously green-screen of footage from the previous films.)

• Imply that Sidious is some sort of zombie.

• Remove the old lady asking Rey who she is, and her saying that she’s Rey Skywalker.

• Remove the shot of Rey’s yellow lightsaber. Why? The Sith and other dark siders are gone forever, so why have Jedi anymore?

Exactly. Sidious shouldn’t have been in the movie at all, because it completely ruins Anakin’s redemption and sacrifice in Return of the Jedi.

I’d do a HD remake of this edit, with shots from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and yeah I’d also add Sidious cackling, before we cut straight to the lightsaber already turned on. (We can imply that Sidious or Snoke, not Luke, turned on the saber or something)
