Galaxy's Edge - A Star Wars Short
Time

Galaxy-edge.jpg

A Star Wars Micro-Edit. 😃

I was just playing around in Premiere and made this little edit if anyone is interested. I thought the Galaxy’s Edge promotional material had some really cool new shots of the new planet, Batuu. This was a quick edit to string together all usable shots and showcase Batuu (and show Han and Chewy taking off from the space port thanks to a few shots from Solo).

I downloaded it before reading the comments here. I might just move the file to my Recycle Bin now. I still think ForceGhostRecon’s TLJ edit is the best one I’ve seen yet. 😃

I appreciate that endorsement! I think the reason that edit came out so good is the community really gave good feedback with good suggestions - it was a great collaborative effort and my job was ‘clean’ execution 😉

Ivan’s crowd appear to be largely TLJ haters- those who despise a vast majority of the changes made. That isn’t a bad thing in it itself, there are some people who think that here, and we all get to respectfully share our opinions. But when surrounded by a community that continues to hate upon hate you get into a situation where anything is better.

My assumption is the praise does not come out of the edit’s quality. The people are only interested in story. They don’t care if the audio is odd or the cuts on dough, or even if the story contradicts itself as long as it directly fixes their issues with Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson the edit is a masterpiece. If it creates new problems, eh who cares.

My greatest worry now is towards the children of those in this community. When (more likely if xd) their parents show them Star Wars for the first time, Episode 8 will be called “The Last Jedi Re-Edit”. 😦

Lol He didn’t think to give it an appealing name. May as well just called it ‘The Last Jedi Fanedit.’

I agree people just WANT to like it because they hate the original. I personally thought the original was terrible, but I don’t hate it enough to accept this turd as a replacement.

Just from looking at the comments on Youtube, I can tell that almost every one of them thinks that Topher Grace is the only one to ever edit the prequel trilogy.

These people are absolutely clueless to there being any sort of fan-editing community. Probably for the best though. Too much attention would only bring a shut down from Disney.

I got the same vibe reading the comments… it’s the ONLY explanation for them thinking this guy’s edit is like the second coming. really crazy…they feel like he’s doing God’s work… like people thanking him for all he has done… lol nuts.

Is it being called the final version or a work in progress?

He says he is going to re-release once he’s done with the fight scene, which honestly was the most appealing part of this project to me personally. I actually think he should’ve scrapped the full-movie re-edit and focused on remaking the fight scene (similar to Sc.38 Reimagined) because the edit is actually really rough, to put it mildly.

Very sloppy overall.

Here is his plan for reworking the fight… a static wide shot with him and another dude composited in. It actually sounded possible before but upon seeing the work he released, I’ve lost hope for this fight scene.

sooo… this has been released. and the result of all that hype is anti-climactic to say the least. I actually wanted to like it… and the hype made me expect CLEAN TOP QUALITY work. The Luke voice-overs are very cringey…with some kind of reverb effect… audio levels all over the place throughtout the film, muddy cross-fades, video game footage…geez. And then there the addition of the 3rd lesson Caretakers Village scene… he used a low quality source and the frames jump all over the place like video streaming online in 1999…definitely a quality drop from the rest of the movie. No serious editor would use such a bad quality clip. And to be honest, all the other edits he made have basically been done before at this point… and done better. I’m trying to be as constructive as possible and not insult, but this is really amateur work. The best thing to come out of this was ImmersionVFX’s work on the green saber.

The Last Jedi - Training
Time

So after my Clean Cut, I pretty much washed my hands of The Last Jedi, but I have a few ideas I would love to see people execute successfully. I have had the idea of an edit where we would see Snoke training Kylo (‘completing his training’ per Snoke’s dialogue at the end of TFA) in parallel with Luke training Rey.

A buddy sent me this recently and I think it’s awesome:
https://youtu.be/YWayIOy4UQU

Using this concept would eliminate Rey ever being brought before Snoke - in which case she could leave Ach-to in the Falcon and just pop up on Crait later on… OR Snoke’s throne room scene could be cut using Rey clips omitting during the cutting process from creating the Kylo training scene. Reylo obviously wouldn’t fight the guards in this version, but maybe it can be cut to have Rey kill Snoke… not sure if possible but it’s a cool idea and also hints at Rey’s dark side.

Anyway, I just wanted to throw these fresh ideas out there for anyone thinking about tackling TLJ

THE LAST JEDI (REMANIED) - « NEVER SEEN BEFORE » CUT with NEW VFX
Time

I’m interested in seeing a new take on this. For me, the Clean Cut was the ideal supplement to the original (unbiased opinion… lol) but there are definitely some alternate ideas bouncing around that I would love to see… Holdo’s hair being changed to brown is one and Kylo training is another… I was recently sent an AWESOME clip of Kylo ‘finishing his training’ and I’ve yet to see anyone implement this idea into an edit:

so good! I’d love to see guys give this a shot

I’m not sure if EvenSteven wants any more talk about Holdo’s hair (if so, let me know and I can take down this post), but since there’s been discussion here, I think changing her hair to brown is doable using colorista in After Effects, which has secondaries and power masks.

Here’s a sample:

pw: fanedit

This would still require going shot by shot and animating the masks, but it does seem doable.

Oh man, this is the ONLY thing that would make me go back and update my Clean Cut… lol but i’d need all her scenes done and that doesn’t seem likely.
