<strong>Return Of The Jedi</strong> - a general <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> thread

RogueLeader said:

I mean, could it be possible George and Gary talked about George’s evolving ideas for Star Wars III during production of Empire, and maybe Kurtz wasn’t thrilled about the direction they were taking, so he contributed that to his departure somewhat, regardless of whether he was fired or if he left voluntarily?

This seems very likely given the roles of both men and time spent together working on the films for many years. If Kurtz did send in that resignation letter from the company late in '79, it seems he carried on working on it - even in another role - and was asked to do further work/have credit for ROTJ.

Kurtz did putline Georg’s loose 9-episode idea for each film - and would have likely known them as his job as Producer. Though like for all the films by George - they changed a lot, and later changed more to fit George’s ‘I had it all planned out’ plan 😉

If only they would have done this instead:

Many 10p coins spent on that as a kid 😃

Edit, just saw ooj’s line saying the same. Must read more before posting excitedly like a kid!

Beautiful cabinet, saw a video not long aog claiming only 2500 were ever built. I assume there are not many left at all now.

30 years since this was released, be great if they re-did / updated it…

Discussion: What Star Wars art or posters do you have on your wall? (or would you like?)
Time

I’ve got to finally get around to obtaining a copy of this up for the office (I much prefer the landscape version than the upright portrait version):-

^ It appeared in Rolling Stone magazine as an advert for the film, way back when…

Though I’ll probably end up settling for a more readily available and colour version below:-

Discussion: What Star Wars art or posters do you have on your wall? (or would you like?)
Time

There are many remarkable poster and art threads about the site (especially in the ‘Case Covers, Disc Labels, and Fan Art’ forum) - but not much in the way of what we actually have in our collections or up on our walls… hence this thread!

So, what Star Wars art or posters are up on your walls?

Or what would you like up on the wall? A favourite image, a whole ‘wall-picture’, commissioned painting, or rare poster?

These websites have a wide collection of posters & art:-

https://www.starwarsmovieposter.com - many posters from all over the world
https://www.cinemasterpieces.com/cinestarwars.htm - lots of useful info on the many various posters
https://www.postercollector.co.uk/category/star-wars-collection - good for some of the more mainstream poster releases
https://www.moviepostersusa.com/brands/star-wars.html - more mainstream / commonly available GFFA posters
https://artofthemovies.co.uk/collections/the-star-wars-collection - some classy and rare posters
https://disneyartonmain.com/collections/star-wars-art - some classic posters and art
https://www.originalposter.co.uk - original theatrical artwork
https://alternativemovieposters.com/?s=star+wars - mainly fan-made alternative posters
https://displate.com/star_wars - Star Wars prints on metal
https://panelwallart.com/collections/star-wars-canvas-wall-art - panel piece wall art
https://theforcegallery.com/collections/star-wars - more panel piece art
https://www.theforce.net/collecting/posters - I know… TFn - but still a good resource
https://twitter.com/sw_artgallery - a collection of Star Wars fan art up on twitter

as well as the likes of allposters, etsy, eBay, amazon, walmart, wayfair, reddit, pinterest, online image searches, etc.

Apolgies for bumping this old thread - I am struggling to motivate myself during the lockdown to do much, if any, exercise…

I was shocked to find that walking to the fridge to get a beer doesn’t count! In the UK we’re allowed out for an hour a day for exercise - which is something I am doing every day. But beyond that - nothing!

Any tips, ideas or help out there for people stuck indoors most of the time? (with no exercise equipment to speak of)

^ Didn’t think I’d see that on the BBC again - a presenter & journalist on a main BBC political program cutting through the Govt crap and dogma that has been so prevalent on its news programs and output for so long now. Well in, Emily Maitlis.

First time in a long time, that mate. I hope it is not the last, not will Maitlis and the program’s production get into trouble for it.

Channel 4 News (in the UK) is pretty good for anyone wishing to get a more factual overview of events, and also ask the hard / probing questions of politicians and those in authority - in a ‘firm but fair’ manner.

We’re approaching 100,000 deaths worldwide from this - https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus

(though the actual 100,000 figure has already been likely been surpassed given some countries only reporting deaths in hospitals - and not in care homes, hospices, in own homes etc.

Need an Original Trilogy Discussion Category
Time

oojason said:

Hiya Fated, the main reasons why the two respective sections are in the same forum category are…

  • We wanted to keep certain topics of conversation separate from each other; one forum dedicated for the OT, one for onscreen content outside of the OT, plus one for discussing aspects of both - yet also the wider GFFA as a whole.

  • Feedback from members on the subject of the forum re-organisation suggested they didn’t want too many new forum categories created to have to sift through. (So we whittled it down to an additional two new categories.)

  • We just weren’t sure just how many threads there would be for a ‘General Star Wars Discussion’ section after the old 5000+ thread forum was split into ‘Original Trilogy’, ‘Beyond the OT’ and ‘The EU’. (I’d guess at around 300 threads.)

If there is enough demand to separate them… this may change - though we don’t think it’ll happen anytime soon, mate.

If anyone has any suggestions or further questions (as well as requests to separate ‘The Expanded Universe’ & ‘General Star Wars Discussion’ sections) feel free to post them up in the site’s Feedback Forum - thank you.

👍

Thank for explanation above, ooj. In the future would the mods please consider separating the ‘General Star Wars Discussion’ from ‘The Expanded Universe’ - placing them into a different section?

It would make it a lot easier to navigate through the topics in there and make them more distinct from each other.

Perhaps, move the ‘General Star Wars Discussion’ section in with the quieter ‘Toys & Memorabilia’ section instead?
&nnbsp;

So it would read as:

Original Trilogy Discussion
Beyond the Original Trilogy
Theatrical Cuts vs. Subsequent Releases
The Expanded Universe
General Star Wars Discussion

This is just my suggestion, I’m sure others have theirs too!

You guys are awesome for the work you all put in here. Thank you.

Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 4k UHD -- 27 DISC Boxed Set -- 3/31/2020
Time

A few ‘unboxing videos’ for the 27-disc ‘Skywalker Saga’ 4K/UHD set:-

(To demonstrate the quality & type of box etc. Seems the discs need to be pushed firmly into place in their ‘housing’ within the box set… so there is possibility of some scratches and smudged fingerprints on the discs over time?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpF9IrbWjoQ - at the Review Plus youtube channel. (13 mins.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oi1CmEWP20 - at the Nick Mayer youtube channel. (8 mins.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugunmdU8WpI - at the Christopher Olson youtube channel. (7 mins.)

^ There are many of these type of videos up on YouTube and seem to be pretty much the same thing over and again. The above videos are ones I found that concentrated on the boxset itself (good angles and centred on the box) - rather than focusing on / plugging themselves.

Nathan Butler’s review on his comprehensive youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbY5XAwSLJc (24 mins.)

I haven’t seen any videos for the 18-disc blu ray set, or the 9-disc DVD set as of yet. I’ll post a couple in here if I can find 'em.
