Some questions concerning Bruce Lee's movies (aficionados needed!)

"Game of Death" 1 & 2 are the only ones I have seen.

But hold on a second. There is a film called "Fist of Unicorn"!

Bruce Lee was helping a long time friend make his first film by helping work out some fight scenes. Well the producers of that movie (unknown to Bruce) filmed his training sessions with the stunt actors, then spliced that footage into the finished film. Bruce was so mad about this under handed trick, that he never spoke to that old friend again.

Your best bet is to start off watching "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey (2000)".

This film tells about, and shows clips of his early work. There was a T.V. show called "Longstreet" from 1969 that has lots of Bruce in it. clips from that episode are included in "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey (2000)".

NOTE: The S.E. 2 DVD SET of "Enter The Dragon" has "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey (2000)" as a bonus!
Get this 2 DVD edition!

* Commentary by producer Paul Heller
* Blood and Steel: The Making of Enter the Dragon
* Bruce Lee: In His Own Words
* Linda Lee Cadwell Interview Gallery
* Lair of the Dragon: Includes 1973 featurette and Backyard Workout with Bruce Lee
* Bruce Lee: A Warrior’s Journey
* Curse of the Dragon
* Theatrical trailers
* Television spots

I think that Bruce Lee was the best Kung-Fu presence in films. He had that balance of fighting style, and pure "Cool" on camera.

I think that "Game of Death" should be saved as your last viewing. "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey (2000)" is the best way to see the footage that Bruce had shot for that unfinished project.

Look out for two "Game of Death" related "Bruceploitation" films called "G.O.D. Storyline" and "Bruce Lee in G.O.D." These titles make the films sound the same, but they are not. The first title uses a new actor to play Bruce's character Billy Lo, and along with narration gives a visual walk through of the known (but unused) plot that Bruce had intended for his "Game of Death" project. They also use the original Bruce Lee directed pagoda footage (with alternate music) that is shown in "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey (2000)".

The film "Bruce Lee in G.O.D." is more of a "Making of" story. It has actors playing Bruce Lee, Ramond Chow (The Producer of the Lee films), Linda Lee, and other important people who made "Game of Death" back in the early 70's. It tells the story of Bruce filming the movie, and has some footage from the Lee directed "Game of Death" spliced in too.

"Game of Death II (1981)" does not include much at all! If you have the S.E. DVD of "Enter the Dragon", then you have seen the footage that was spliced into "Game of Death II (1981)". The footage that was spliced into this film are the scenes originally cut from American prints, and one scene that was not in the original international release. All that deleted footage was restored on the S.E. DVD.

"Game of Death II (1981)" is worth watching, and is better then part 1. But don't expect to get blown away by any Bruce footage. The commentary track on the import "Game of Death II (1981)" DVD is very good, and worth seeking out!

WARNING! "Goodbye Bruce Lee: His Last Game of Death" is the worst "Bruceploitation" DVD I have seen. It looks like it was shot on Super 8 film, and is a "lower end" Bruce Li project.

The best looking collected set of Bruce Lee films (I have seen) is the 6 DVD 30th Anniversary Commemorative Edition set from Hong Kong legends. This set is Region 2. This set does not include "Enter The Dragon" due to it being owned by Warner Bros.
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/41TCB262A6L._AA240_.jpg

Also look for the documentaries "The Legend" and "The Man and the Legend" these two documentaries have great footage and info, and are a must for a fan. They are on the same DVD as a two-fer if you get the Region 2 disc.

Hope this helps you..

Highlander 5: The Source (Released)
Time
It's so stupid that in the final fight, Our hero does not even use his (or any other) sword! A major element of Highlander has always been Duncan's sword, and his fighting with it. But now in this shit film, Duncan does a silly double knife fight in the final battle! This film was just CRAP!

Every other Highlander movie stands so far above this poor production.

What are the extra scenes in The Thing?
Its one of my favourite films of all time.

From IMDB:
# CBS edited 12 minutes from this film for its 1986 network television premiere.

# In the theatrical version the cook is listening to Stevie Wonder's "Superstition". Because Universal did not secure rights for the home video release, the song was replaced. However, for more recent releases, Universal was able to use "Superstition" because they relicensed the song.

# The American syndicated televison version features:

* A voiceover for title card reading "Antarctica, 1982".
* A voiceover added and film re-cut introducing each character and providing their back stories.

# The version broadcast on television in the eighties ended with a few shots of a dog running, stopping to look around and heading off into the distance, leading the spectator to believe the Thing had survived. Also, the scene where a man's head tears itself apart from his body, grows legs and eyes and runs off, was cut.

# According to "The Thing: Terror Takes Shape" documentary on the The Thing DVD, an alternative ending was shot. In this ending, Kurt Russell's character was rescued and was in a doctor's office. His blood had been sampled, and he was not infected. Carpenter liked the story as he had told it and decided against using this ending.

# The television broadcast version of The Thing sometimes has an unknown person narrate the beginning of the film. He introduces all of the characters as they appear and gives a brief blurb about their goals/reasons for being there. At the end of the film, the narrator returns once more to deliver a haunting speech, and then a shot of the Huskie running away from the burning base is shown. This version often appears on TNT or TBS. This version also has so much of the gore edited out that originally deleted scenes are used as time fillers to extend existing scenes.

# The American syndicated television version has a slightly extended version of the scene where outside in the tractor Macready and Fuchs secretly discuss Blair's sanity. In the extended version Fuchs remarks that while Blair may be losing his mind he is still a brilliant scientist and his rantings should not be totally dismissed.

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection on DVD (Released)
Time
UPDATE NEWS!!!

BANNED BOND: The Criterion Collection "FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE" to be updated with improved image and audio transfer, and will now include bonus isolated score and effects track (taken from "The Connery Collection" laser set).

This isolated score and effects track is not on my original "BANNED BOND" disc of "From Russia With Love" because it was not included on the recalled Criterion set.

No decision yet if we are going to update the "Dr. No" or "Goldfinger" video transfer. We have no new extras for those films, and see little point in re-releasing them now. We would like to get the "Thunderball" & "Star Trek" projects out before working on anything new. The video work for "From Russia With Love" has been done for some time. We just need to drop in the isolated score track, and beef up the menus for that title.

We are still working on putting this together. This set should be up on torrents by the end of the year.

What has been taking the most time on this project is that about half the imported footage is 16x9 Enhanced, and the rest is not.
So, I have to resize half of the movie. Resizing this much footage is a task that takes lots of time, hard drive space, and also bottlenecks the entire creative process.

MTV: Is it true you almost directed "Return of the Jedi"? How close did you come?

Lynch: Not close at all. I had a meeting with George [Lucas]. I like George. It was his thing. I said, "You should direct this. It's your thing! It's not my thing."

MTV: Did he flat-out offer it to you at the time?

Lynch: Yeah!

MTV: But you immediately declined.

Lynch: I called him the next day.

I would have LOVED to see what Jedi would have been if Lynch would have done it!

That would have been one dark & strange film! And, I bet Episode 6 would have been much better for it. How in the world that musical number would have been done by Lynch is beyond me.

Idea & Info Wanted: Kiss Meets the Phantom Edit???
Time
This could be saved If more "KISS" music and live footage could be put into this film and the Scenes Re-cut to make them move faster. I remember not enjoying this as a kid, because "KISS" was not in it. As for plot and story, this move was made for the 10 - 14 year old "KISS ARMY" market. It my be fun to edit in scenes from the 1977 movie "Rollercoaster", as the action takes place at the same park (L.A.'s Magic Mountain)... But, most of all more KISS music must be put in. There should be KISS music playing in the background of almost every scene.

The "Thunderball" project is still in the color correction phase {And hogging up my hard drives}...
I've been working on some more extras for this DVD project in the interim. Such as an enhanced scenes section that has new Fan-made scenes from the move to give it a more modern edge with some new sound, new music mix. Also some new edits, cuts, and film speed changes.

Info Wanted: The Beatles Rooftop concert?

At least part of it appears in the movie "Let It Be".

In January 1969 the Beatles wanted to return to their Rock 'n' Roll roots and do a live concert show for fans that would just be them playing the songs live without any of the studio tricks that had dominated the Beatles music for a number of years. A T.V. film was commissioned to show the Beatles getting ready for the live show. The final BIG SHOW had also been planned to be filmed. But... The vibe and energy were just not with the Beatles at this point in their story, and the plans for the BIG SHOW (as well as the band itself) fell apart shortly after the filming began at the rehearsals. In an effort to come up with an ending to the existing film footage that had been shot at rehearsals, the group decided to quickly put together a makeshift live concert on the "Apple" office rooftop. So that's what they did, and it was the last time they played together in a public setting.

http://incolor.inebraska.com/sumaree/beatles/images/sulpy1.jpg
There are a few great books that document the "Let It Be" recordings and filming, and it's a very interesting story.

Some alternate shots of the roof top show had also been used in a few of the "Promo Films" (Music Videos) that had been seen on T.V. music shows back in 1969 when the original "Get Back and "Don't Let Me Down" single was first released. The Anthology Series also has some fantastic restored rooftop segments. For the filming of what became "Let It Be", the crew used 16mm film because the project was meant as a T.V. show not feature film. Then in 1970, the powers at "APPLE" had the film edited together as the movie "Let It Be" to satisfy
a 3 movie contract deal made with United Artists in the early 60's. The other 2 films being "A Hard Days Night" and "Help!"

A completed 16mm print of the finished "Let It Be" film was then blown up to 35mm so it could be show in movie theaters. These blown up prints are cropped and with that, some of the film's picture information is lost around the edges, and also the blow-up process had made the released film look blurry and dirty. The official VHS and Laserdisc from the early 1980s was transferred from one of these horrid blown-up prints. There is also a version of "Let It Be" floating around the fan underworld that is a transfer of an unmodified 16mm master. This version looks much better, but the person who did this transfer did not take care, and some digital glitches exist on all known copies. One of the other drawbacks on all the versions of "Let It Be" is the poor sounding audio soundtrack. Thankfully, there are some very good sound recordings of the entire project, and this includes the audio of the full rooftop show (minus a few seconds of between song chatter during a reel to reel tape change). These sound recordings may still be floating around the eBay and or the torrents. There is rumor that the film is still being restored and a possible complete re-edit may be in the works for DVD, but I would not hold my breath. None of The Beatles ever liked the released edit of the film, and this is one of the main reasons it's stayed officially unreleased on DVD format.

Send me a P.M. if you want more info about what is out there for us fans to enjoy from this project.

there were some of the episodes edited into movies on vhs such as the terrible Galactica 1980, or Galactica earth.

Man, I too would love to know what the Canadian Theatrical version was composed of...
Sad thing is that the only information that I could ever find about this edition is that it existed.
I do have a fan made compilation VHS from years and years ago that has all of the known released "Saga" footage. The creator of this VHS (a very famous and active member of the BSG community) had told me that, one or two short segments of scenes on this tape are from the Canadian only version. The scene segments in question have an all together different look to them on this tape. They had been recorded by a different fan and then the scenes where edited into this compilation VHS. Because of the alternate quality, it's not to hard for me to identify them. Only problem is that I've not looked at this tape in years, so I am not 100% sure if those segments are included on the original series box in the extras section.

As for the Theatrical version that is on official DVD. That was the edit made after the series was already canceled and "SenSurround" was added to some released prints. But I'm more than sure you all know that.

As for the VHS releases of re-edited episodes, there was

1) "Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack" a somewhat poorly re-edited version of Living Legend and Fire In Space episodes, plus a few minutes of footage from the pilot's space-mine field segment.

NOTE: The extended "The Living Legend" Telemovie edit is NOT the same as this movie. "Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack" did have a theatrical release in Japan.
