Demonoid Dead...
Time
Just to make a point:
I download any Beatles music and movies I can find on the net, and still last night I went over to Best Buy and got the new release of "Help". Last year I got 4 copies of the official "LOVE" cd and sent 3 of them out as gifts! If they had more then one official Beatles release a year I would get them too. There is in fact no official Beatles title I don't have at this point.
I download Star Wars related stuff, and today I went to Amazon and got the 3 2-dvd sets of ANH - ESB - RotJ with the Original and updated versions.. I Got the Superman Box last year when It came out, and I had just downloaded the torrent of the RIC of Superman II the day before that. These are just the titles I can think of.. Oh, and I got a torrent of Bob Dylan related footage last month, and then went out and got the official DVD of "No Direction Home" & plan to see the new "I'm Not There" film at my local AMC in a few weeks. I got the National Treasure film off torrents, and now plan to see the new one when it comes out at the AMC, and I will buy the official DVD of the first one too. I can't believe I am the exception...

What sucks is the overpriced stuff out there. There is no reason that the Box Sets of the HBO show "ROME" should be $85 each set! When they do that over priced crap , there is more of a chance people will turn to torrents and never buy the official version. I would rather not see the show then pay that kind of money. So not having the torrents would not compel me to pay $85 for something I can't preview. {I don't have HBO} And another thing.. How about rentals? My local video store is going to have 2 copies of each new film no matter if 50 or 500 people rent it.... BMI and ASCAP watch how many times a radio station plays the titles so that the makers of the music gets a cut. But, it's not like that with DVD renting... And IMHO, Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake need to suffer! They don't need more money the spoiled brats... How much money do these people need? It's not like they need the extra sales to eat. They are getting exposure from downloading no matter what, and that helps them in the long run. And one more thing, I once downloaded a Iron Maiden rare EP. Now I plan on going to at least 2 of the 2008 shows when they come to my area...

UP THE IRONS!

35mpg by 2020
Time
My 2006 Hummer H3 is getting about 20 - 25 MPG!!! This new 5 cylinder is great! My 1998 Jeep Wrangler {4 Cylinder} is not doing as well as my Hummer on Gas at 18 - 20 MPG. I think that it could be possible to get some cars to around 30 - 33 MPG by 2020, but they sure will not be the sporty Mustang types... And just FYI, I live in Florida {a flat place}. I'm sure if you got hills in your area {Like California} the MPG is going to go down a great deal..

Actually, I was hoping for the original "Special Longer Version" cut. But anyway, I can't wait to see your version! Keep up the good work!

Oso Blanco,
This is a 3 disc project, so the "original "Special Longer Version" cut" you want will be there too. *Grin*

Seems they got to TorrentSpy as well. But when there is a demand for torrents and file sharing, there will be a way found to overcome this road block. The people who set up that sort of service (like Demonoid and TorrentSpy ) are creative and I'm sure will not go down without finding some way to get around all this going on now. We will all adapt to this, and a new service will be born (Just like what came after Napster). They just need to find a server in some 3rd world country that does not take kindly to people like the CRIA / F.B.I and other western police state tactics telling them what they can have on their servers.. We humans adapt and survive...

This is a screen grab from the extended TV Cut, it doesn't look widescreen because of the darkness of the screen grab, but it is as you can tell by the blue in the top center. Anyways!!

I am assuming that there is something after this shot?

????? Shot / before or after this?

I was a bit confused too. The shot comes just before that photo you uploaded.

Here is a split screen of it. The top is the letterbox. That section will black out for the missing few seconds, then returns when the available footage resumes.

The widescreen 'Special Longer Version" was something I can't believe you accomplished.

There are some key scenes that are not avaible in widescreen, How did you handle them Fanfiltration - did you get other prints?

lmk! I am very interested.

There is only one small fragment that I have not been able to find in letterbox so far. It's right after Ilia does her Deltan healing on Mr. Chekhov. Just after Dr. Chapel gives Chekhov a spray of Bactine, Chapel gives Ilia a short glance (included) but then looks down (this is where the scene cuts in the bonus section extras on the official dvd) then Chapel looks back up at Ilia with a "Smart Ass" type look for just like 2 seconds (About 60 frames). That "Smart Ass" glance is what I don't have. I'm sure this 2 seconds can be overlooked, but my partner in this project refuses to stop his whining about it's non inclusion. If there was some type of cut away from Chapel back to Ilia then back to Chapel, then we could have attempted to make the Pan and Scan look letterbox for the 2 seconds. But due to the shot of Chapel being uninterrupted, this type of trick would look so bad and very noticeably interrupt the flow of the scene.

"Back in 1991 I went to a one time only theatrical showing in New York City of all 5 Trek films (up to that date). They presented the films back to back. They called it "Sit Long and Prosper". The showing of ST:TMP was in 70mm, and had most of the extra footage that is included on the extended pan & scan VHS, but not all of it. Missing was the scene where Kirk goes after Spock, and the Matt painting of the Enterprise is missing. That for sure was one scene that was not included, as well as other small bits and some scenes had been the versions from the theatrical 1979 cut). My letterbox version will include about 99.7% of what can be found on the extended 17 minute VHS. Making it even more inclusive then the officially released letterbox expended print that Paramount has in it's vaults. I'm hoping that this fact will be taken into account when the die-hard Trekkies bring me before the proverbial guillotine. *wink*"

What key scenes are you thinking of that may be missing? Most of the Klingon battle scene, and the scene with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy in the observation lounge (where you can see the window in the background) is being taken from a High Def T.V. broadcast of the letterbox theatrical cut (provided to me by yet another great fan on this forum). The rest of that scene (without the window in the back) was assembled from the bonus extras from the official dvd, and was a bit tricky to do.

All the best
Dan

PS: From what's above I MAY have a go at some cover art.

The Fanfiltration edit of STTMP it going to be mostly extracted from my finished edit of the 1983 extended cut, and we have no idea of the projected running time as of yet. The letterbox 1983 extended cut is about 80% completed as of tonight (I get about 15 min more of the film done each night), and as soon as it is all done, the work will start in earnest on the Fanfiltration cut. I'm with you 100% about the 'establishing shots' being much too long. We plan to fix that. Re-editing the score will be the hard part, so that the edit seems smooth. We don't want to have any audio jumps that may give away the fact that version was cut up. We are excited about our plans to re-arrange some of the key scenes, and have had these ideas in the works for over a year now. Please feel free to submit any art you would like to do for the project!

As for the Holiday Special only being available in really low quality... you should see some of the MST3K episodes. Most of the movies they watched weren't in the best shape. Some looked worse than the best looking copy of the SWHS floating around...

I just hope I'm right...

I'm sorry, but I have to say that the "Star Wars Ewok Adventures - Caravan of Courage (aka The Ewok Adventure) / The Battle for Endor" are far far worse then the Star Wars Holiday Special in my book. At least the Star Wars Holiday Special had most of the original cast, the Boba Fett cartoon, an out-take from the first film, plus Han Solo committing a real deal homicide. And one more thing... Let's not forget the late great Beatrice Arthur belting out one for the boys (or whatever they are) in a kind of kewl cantina segment. The Ewok Adventures just out right SUCKED! SUCKED! SUCKED!

The print MST3K used of Godzilla vs. Megalon was pure crap, and looks far worse then my quicktime format download of the Star Wars Holiday Special. And who is to say that ABC does not have a clean print of the Star Wars Holiday Special someplace in it's vaults? I'm sure the east and west coast would have each had a print of this at the time of broadcast.

Would they have any problems with the copyright licensing from the publishers of the music sections in that Star Wars Holiday Special?
They would have to clear each song I'm sure, as Lucas would only have a say on the Star Wars content right? ABC T.V. would have a say too I'm sure.

My good friend is still working on the color issues with the laserdisc transfer. I'm sure that if I had a high end LD player for this work, we would have had it out by now . It's not a dead project! It just seems to be wallowing in a purgatory of never ending perfectionism.
We are trying so hard to do these films with respect, and also keeping with the original intent of there creators. We did a preview for a few friends of our first attempt of a completed color correction, but we all thought the end result had a "Fake" look to it. Besides that we found some other small problems with the music only audio track. The good news is that we are improving our skills each time we have a go at this, so in the end we will have a great preservation for you guys.

Apparently the missing frames are on the Criterion LD, but not on any other LD or DVD.

WOW!

I never knew about this! Thanks for posting that info...

That is very important to know, and makes it so much more the reason that the Criterion versions be presented in full Audio and video formats on my Banned Bond set. We all know it's important in the rules not to take away from the official versions copyright, but if the guys at MGM Video don't want to include the complete films, then it's up to us fans to step in and preserve them. But F.Y.I., I still insist on you all owing each of official DVDs of (Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger) before adding these Band Bond versions to your 007 collection.

In other news, it looks like the new 007 actor Daniel Craig has now signed on for 4 More James Bond Films!

Let me know if you don't get the audio you need from B.F.M.E. #1 from anyone here. If not, my friend was thinking of buying the game soon from Amazon as it's only like $9 now, and I can ask him to help you out.

Your clean up work is so GREAT, and I love the idea of "Book Cuts"! I was watching the official extended versions back to back like a month ago, and was talking to my house mate about your edit concept. We would LOVE to see it when you have it all done.

Time

Mitch,

GO FOR IT GUYS!

I love the T.V. versions so much {even if the ending models during the Earthquake and poor story continuity {Indian Giver Footage} makes the film look cheap and rushed}! All the extra Lex stuff is so great and funny. I was so sad when I found it was not in the bonus section of the official DVD box set, or part of the Donner cut. Send me a PM Mitch, and I will donate what I have to you guys for review. I did some clean up work on the audio track, and there may be something there you can use. I have all the footage from the various versions {KCOP / ABC / Official VHS} of first film included in my composite edit.

Hey Hey Mitch!

I want to have it done for December 25th! But you never know due to unforseen problems that tend to crop up with such huge undertakings.
It would be great to get this project out on the torrents in 3 parts, so people can chose what DVD's they want most in there collections, but I'm a real noob when it comes to posting such things. Also, more extras may be on the way, and we want to make sure we cram as much into this set as we can. I'm sure it will be out before the new 2008 official film, but with my recent track record who knows *wink*

The Los Angeles Times presented a daily Star Trek comic strip that started it's run shortly before the premiere of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Don't you all find it kind of funny that Ilia is part of the crew here? The comic strip makers must not have seen the script for the movie, as the character Ilia dies in her very first and only adventure with the Enterprise! But then again, the films script was forever being re-worked as the movie was being shot, so who knows...

At one time I was thinking of releasing a composite of <span class=“Bold”>Superman: The Movie</span> using the VHS version combined with some old VHS copies of the various T.V. extended versions that I had in my tape collection. Here for you enjoyment here is a scene to show how much more footage the T.V. versions used in some of the best parts of the film. This is the scene where Superman becomes a not so super <span class=“Italics”>“Indian Giver”</span>. I’m not doing any type of superman edit, I was just placing this file here for fun. As you can tell the quality is crap!

Sorry but the video was removed…

Here is a bit of a video preview of my work being done now on the “Special Longer Version” of <span class=“Bold”><span class=“Italics”>Star Trek: The Motion Picture</span></span> presented here <span class=“Bold”>for the first time</span> in letterbox format!

The complete letterbox “Special Longer Version” will be included on DVD #2 of the set.
These scenes had only been released in Pan & Scan on VHS and Laserdisc format until now!
The Director’s cut DVD did included edited versions of these scenes, and also included parts of the scenes in the bonus section.
Here they are re-constructed using the original stereo audio track taken from the 1983 laserdisc.

&quot;RED CURTAINS: Twin Peaks Retold&quot; Fanedit (Released)
Time
We are holding off until the new box set comes out, and I can afford to buy it.

I am still recovering from a health problem.

Fan Film editing is a very enjoyable part of my life, and I would never give it up. Problem is that I had started too many projects at the same time, and need to complete some of the long awaited projects like Thunderball and Star Trek:TMP before diving into this new Twin Peaks edit.
With my medical problems, my job is gone, so I must also find the funds to continue to buy the new complete T.P. box set for a source.

This project will be out... I Just don't have any idea when...

You may change your mind as soon as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comes out.

It's not the worst film of all time, but it is a disappointing entry into The Highlander cannon. Highlander 2 had a budget, and a motivated creative team behind it. That is why that film has become more movie nostalgia to me. H:TS was shot like a T.V. episode and that's all it will ever be to me. Despite the pipe dream of it's Director (he must have been smoking something), and the Producers, It's only a T.V. movie. That's how it was presented to be viewed by the public, so to hold it up to the 4 Highlander feature films is not appropriate.
