US Soldier Throws Puppy Off Cliff!

There's rumors on some other sites that I read that the puppy was already dead. Again, I'll reserve judgment until I see the results of the investigation.

In other news, a 15 month old child was beheaded by his uncle today. It happened in a Baghdad marketplace. Apparently he got in a disagreement with the child's mother and the beheading was retribution.

A dead puppy doesn't look so bad after reading about that.

True, but I don't have to pay that Baghdad guys income with my tax dollar, and he does not represent my nation. There are cruel things done every day, and we should protest all of them if we feel we can. I never said that a puppy being killed was the worst thing ever done, I just had the time to post the story and wanted to see the reaction here. Boy, did I learn a few things. Part of my life long work has been working with dogs, and this story hit a nerve. Could it be that some people out there are more upset that the this story is being made into a big deal because a U.S. Marine is involved? And it's more a political frustration to them that this story is being posted all over the internet? Makes me wonder.

This guy needs to lose more then a few stripes my friends.

When you see the sings of a problem you just cant use the old "Boys will be boys" excuse and let it go.

Edmund Burke said:

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing".

Do not allow evil to triumph. Do not do sit by and do nothing.

Researchers, as well as the FBI and other law enforcement agencies nationwide, have linked animal cruelty to domestic violence, child abuse, serial killings, and to the recent rash of killings by school-age children, according to Dr. Randall Lockwood, vice president of Training Initiatives for The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

It is no secret to us in this age of enlightenment that the likes of Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, and David Berkowitz all delighted in torturing animals before moving on to human prey. Sadly, many adult serial killers may have also suffered abuse as children.

In a study of 57 families being treated for incidents of child abuse, 88% also abused animals. In two-thirds of the cases, it was the abusive parent who had killed or injured the animals to control a child. In one-third, the children had abused the animals, using them as scapegoats for their anger. (Quoted from The American Humane Association)

In the case of the Columbine shootings, these boys did not even wait until adulthood. They graduated from animal abuse to killing their classmates as teenagers. The same pattern apparently existed among the killings attributed to Kip Kinkel, 15, of Oregon; Mitchell Johnson, 13, and Andrew Golden, 11, of Jonesboro Arkansas; and Luke Woodham, 16, of Pearl, Mississipi.

I got a reply to my email to the commander...

The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards
we expect of every Marine.

This video came to our attention this yesterday morning, and we have
initiated an investigation. We do not tolerate this type of behavior and
will take appropriate action.

The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties in an honorable manner
that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States. There
have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home
from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children.
Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines
behave.

Very Respectfully,
Marine Corps Base Hawaii

Please pass the word on this!

OMG, this is just awful, I wont watch this clip!

Very disturbing, the video shows a barbaric act of animal cruelty by a Marine.

WARNING! This clip may disturb you, but news of this type and the actions of someone who is paid by the public must get out! Don't let this just roll on by, DO SOMETHING about this sick action! Nothing will happen with this unless there is a significant public outcry.

The above-linked video purportedly shows a couple of U.S. Marines in Iraq gleefully throwing a puppy off the top of a steep hillside into gully below. As described by the /Honolulu Advertiser/, the scene unfolds this way: Two Marines are seen in combat gear smiling as one holds a white-and-black puppy by the scruff of its neck. The dog seems to be about 8 weeks old and is motionless as it is held. "Cute little puppy, huh?" says one Marine as he smiles broadly. "Oh so cute, so cute, little puppy," says another in a child-like voice. The Marine holding the puppy is then seen throwing the animal overhand into a desert-like gully below. The animal yelps until it thuds to the ground at the bottom of the gully. "That's mean," one Marine says afterward.

I think that is one "troop" we should simply leave over there and not bring home.
He is a sick individual and a disgrace for our military. Hope some action will be taken by his superior!

The accused is:
David Mortari

Here is the e-mail address of the CO of the base where he is stationed. He welcomes input.

US seeks terrorists in web worlds
By Chris Vallance

Experts say terror groups are unlikely to use games such as World of Warcraft

The US government has begun a project to develop ways to spot terrorists who are using virtual worlds.

Codenamed Reynard it aims to recognise "normal" behaviour in online worlds and home in on anomalous activity.

It is likely to develop tools and techniques for intelligence officers who are hunting terrorists and terror groups on the net or in virtual worlds.

The project was welcomed by experts tracking terror groups using the net to organise or carry out attacks.

Growing threat

Brief details about Reynard came to light in a report sent to the US Congress by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) - which co-ordinates the work of US intelligence agencies.

We can see groups emerging in cyber spaces and virtual communities that would be wholly virtual
Roderick Jones, Concentric Solutions

iPM: Listen to the interview with anti-terror experts
In that report, which talked about the data mining efforts undertaken by the ODNI, Reynard was described as: "a seedling effort to study the emerging phenomenon of social (particularly terrorist) dynamics in virtual worlds and large-scale online games and their implications for the intelligence community".

Using publicly available data Reynard researchers will carry out observational studies to establish "baseline normative behaviors".

Once these are identified, Reynard will "then apply the lessons learned to determine the feasibility of automatically detecting suspicious behavior and actions in the virtual world".

"It's a positive step," said Andrew Cochran, founder and co-chairman of the Counterterrorism Foundation. "For a number of years we were behind in chasing jihadists' presence on the net and detecting it."

"That's a very sensible step at the moment," said Roderick Jones, a vice president of Concentric Solutions and a former special branch officer. "Just to feel their way around them and work out what new intelligence collection methods might be required to deal with this threat, because you won't be able to use traditional law enforcement methods."

New worlds

A senior intelligence officer at the ODNI said Reynard was in its very early stages and it was too soon to say which online worlds it would be studying. He added that any work on it would be purely for research rather than "operational" purposes.

Many terror groups indulge in cyber crime to fund their activities
"I think its highly unlikely terrorists would use things like Second Life or World of Warcraft as they do not have the necessary security," said Mr Jones.

"Terrorist use of the internet at the moment relies on password protected forums," he added.

Said Mr Cochran: "All of the major terrorist treatises have been distributed through the internet so taking it to a virtual world with multi-player role games is really an easy step."

It was inevitable that terror groups would make greater use of the internet and the possibilities that virtual spaces offered them, said Mr Jones.

"There's more a chance of things like Jihad worlds coming online in the next five years I think," he said.

The visual richness of virtual worlds made them good places to educate recruits about techniques, said Mr Jones.

Attack pattern

"We can see groups emerging in cyber spaces and virtual communities that would be wholly virtual," he said. "They would organise and radicalise in virtual worlds and attack using cyber methods without becoming a real world presence in any real way."

Many groups were likely to use the expertise and skills they learn in virtual worlds to target key net systems.

Ken Silva, chief technology officer for Verisign which oversees some of the net's core address books, said such an attack could be "devastating".

"We see a continuing growth in the amount of horsepower in the attacks that are directed at infrastructure servers," said Mr Silva.

A router problem made YouTube inaccessible for many
"We are seeing a large shift from attacks that are directed at individual websites," he said. "The sophistication is getting a little smarter and they are attacking the infrastructure pieces behind them..., which is typically in most production environments the least invested in."

Some of the basic systems of the net, such as the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) which helps data reach its intended destination, were open to attack.

An accidental misconfiguration of BGP in some routers in Pakistan caused the recent problems with YouTube which left many people unable to reach the video site.

"BGP is essentially a relatively unprotected protocol and is seriously vulnerable to disruption," he said. "Should that happen, it could take a very long time to correct that situation."

"This has to be fought at every level," he said.

I made an edit like this for some friends and my Mom who only wanted to start watching this season. I kept most of the on island scenes {but with lots of trims}, and I also cut most of the back stories out for the cast members that would be gone by season 4 as well as the extra go no place bits for cast that are still with us. Much of the back story footage that was redundant was cut. The edit worked out very well in fact, and the story arc moved along at a much faster pace. All I had to do was keep in mind and try to remember all the story references that would crop up and come back into play later on. At times I would take back story elements from 3 or 4 episodes on the same character and link them together to move that character's history along much faster for the new viewer.
Also I started the project with all the crash events shown in the first 3 seasons edited together in a chronological order {including Niki and Palo from season three}, as well as the tail section stuff. So you would see the tail section events {from season two} along side the regular cast's events {from season one} side by side. Also, I put in the Hanso foundation films from the net as well as stuff from the bonus DVD's in the mix. It was a two week fast edit job, but was a lot of fun to do for them. I'm thinking of re-doing this project in high quality and posting it.

The Seasons turned out to be about 5 hours long each.

(SPOILER) new "STAR TREK" 2009 spoiler thread (SPOILER)
Time
Could it be that "Justice League" is held up due to the "Superman: Man of Steel" movie? I'm sure they don't want two films with Superman played by two different actors to come out at the same time. I'm also sure that "Superman: Man of Steel" will get more support by the studio to come out first.

I'm hoping that the "Iron Man" and "Incredible Hulk" films are going to be good. Still waiting to see the Hulk trailer.

In a way I'm glad Star Trek is getting some more production time, and it is not going to be a rush job {Like Star Trek The Motion Picture}. Filming is starting about now, and they will have more time to tweak the film if it does not come out as good as they expect.

The audio book read along for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" will be part of my mega set release. The only problem with it is that it's not the original actors, it a re-do with a new cast of voice actors and very short and basic.

Well it's Star WARS, and could be that some game makers feel WARS should not be comic at all.

You should contact Lucas Arts and see if they give an answer to why this game shows this stuff.

Anyway, I say "Let there be blood"!

I don't remember, but did they not suggest kids got killed in Episode II and III of "Star Wars"?
Lot's of kids went to see that PG movie. Most kids that would play this game would have seen the films too.

Well like THE BEATLES say...

"Well, shake it up, baby, now, (shake it up, baby)
Twist and shout."

Earthquakes are quite fun if you don't get hurt and lots of damage. I was in the October 15th 2006 Earthquake in Maui Hawaii, and that was a big one. We thought the volcano blew it's top. I got knocked out of my bed. lot's of fun. Again, only fun when no people get hurt.

I think this is a great way to teach people the truth about the results of war in a game format . When the guns fire, bombs fall, missiles fly, and the tanks roll, they don't always spare innocent men, woman or children. Battle is not clean, no matter if you think you are the good guys or not. If you are going to play war games, why not see what battle is all about? It's about death, not much more. If you don't like the message this game is sending, don't buy it. If you don't like the truth about battle, don't fight in one.
