Hollywood Adopts New Affirmative Action rules

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Studio executives from Warner Brothers Studios have announced they will adopt a new affirmative action policy on all projects in the future and those currently in production.

...

The new “rules” state that for every white, American, male heterosexual actor, there must be three minority actors cast. Addressing action movies, the “rules” also say that those minority roles can not be killed off within the first 2 minutes of the movie. This last rule is expected to effect the sci-fi market most of all.

"Seven Samurai" (Shichinin no samurai)

It's taken a long long time for me to get around to watching Akira Kurosawa's most masterful works. I've started with this one. What a truly powerful film!

Plot: A poor village under attack by bandits recruits seven unemployed samurai to help them defend themselves.

Note: This film's plot was re-worked and Americanized in Hollywood, and became the basis for the classic western "The Magnificent Seven")

It's finally going up on the newsgroups (Usenet) - alt.binaries.dvd and alt.binaries.multimedia.startrek (the nzb is crossposted to a.b.nzb).

Sorry for the delay. Planned obscelesence keeps rearing its ugly head. Makes life complicated...

If the upload gets interrupted, don't worry, it'll be back up within a few hours. (I'm bracing for a couple of failures that could chose to happen during the posting).

Found the NZB, thanks.  Shows what I know about newsgroups, I didn't know you could have an NZB before actually posting the pieces.

Btw, IIRC wasn't there going to be  2 other cuts to go with this or have they been shelved?

Yes, I did plan on doing 3 edits. The official blu-ray kind of made one of them pointless, but I am still planing my own personal fan-edit of the material. Just need a bit of a breather first.

Space Battleship Yamato / Star Blazers
Time

Ok, stuff like this just re-awakens my inner-child, and gives me goose bumps.

I grew up with Star Blazers (Hurry Star Force, only 245 days left!), and then became endeared to the more mature original Japanese T.V. versions, and feature films when I got a bit older.

Now it took a long time, but the new film is out in Japan, and it's a

HUGE HIT!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqVXFcQq_NE

According to Tokyograph, the new film is set in 2220 (17 years after the events of “Final Yamato”), at a time when Earth is threatened by an expanding black hole. As 300 million people prepare for evacuation, the fleet is suddenly attacked. The Yamato, now captained by the 38-year-old Susumu Kodai, is forced to retaliate. Also aboard are Susumu’s wife Yuki and their daughter Miyuki.

Word from the fans is that the new Yamato movie has just the right blend of old and new animation styles.  The film has already found a U.S. distributor, and it's not going to be Voyager.

And...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jExoH_JjMZg

Also in Yamato news, a teaser trailer for a new Live Action Yamato movie was recently released. I don't know if this one is going to deliver, but the producers are spending about $20 million U.S. dollars on it.  It should be out December 2010.

Any other Yamato / Star Blazers fans here?

Harrison Ford Gives Some Indiana Jones 5 Details

January 11th, 2010
http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEqpxsrzWdoDtz
I don't want to go and make yet another thread about an Indiana Jones V, so I have just been placing all the (credible) rumors and update news here. Hope you don't mind Skyjedi2005.

"he said when reminded of a quote he gave saying that Lucas' idea was "crazy but great."
That statement by Ford, does not leave me with much optimism.
When actors at that stage of their life say they are excited about returning for another one, I keep thinking "another one" = another paycheck.

Just found these on youtube. of the Godfather Saga scenes not included in the various box sets.

Would have loved to include some of that footage, but after over two years of requests, I was never able to get my hands on any of it in usable quality. If it would have been included on an official release (other then T.V. broadcast), It would have been included. Did not include Kay in church because the Novel for T.V. credits run over that scene. No logical point in including it if the story is going to continue with "Godfather part III". That scene would have messed up the transition of Part II into part III.

LOST
Time

I'm re-watching favorite episodes until it starts. I'm still feeling the urge to make a fan edit of all seasons into a shorter chronological story. But that all depends on how it all turns out in the end. So I am holding off on a complete re-watch till after season six ends. Don't want to burn out. Yet.

Tolkien
Time

Did you know that in the 1960's J. R. R. Tolkien started rewriting the entire novel of "The Hobbit" in the same style of The Lord of the Rings? What survives of this attempt is reprinted in the "The History of The Hobbit" box set. So Tolkien played with the idea of not just re-doing one scene, but in fact revising the story telling style of the entire work.

I enjoyed that article very much. Thanks for posting it.  I have not seen the film yet, but now strangely somehow I feel I have.

It's playing in 3-D IMAX here, so I may go just for the effects.  I am not very motivated in seeing Cameron films. They are high on schlock formula, and remind me of eating a much too rich cup-cake.

Pat Robertson does it again
Time

A little bit of irony here.

French rescue workers are seen at Paris Roissy airport en route to Haiti, Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010.

Woot! Look Pat, God is kicking Satan's ass. The French are returning! They were even packed and ready to go. Score another one for the big "G".

But seriously folks, Pat Robertson is a total douche bag.

Haiti is a such radically Catholic country! The people are dying of AIDS in droves because they are so devoted to religious dogma, and not using condoms.

Star Wars Trivia?

That's exactly what happened to me. It has been gathering dust alongside TPM Monopoly ever since.

I just got The Beatles edition of TP this past Christmas (last month), and it's already collecting dust in my closet. That is the problem with genre specific games like that, it's nothing but a novelty gift and a real tease to the person who gets it.  I also have the original trilogy Star Wars Edition of Monopoly (played one time)...

How would you transition into the opening credits with the Klingon capture scene? Maybe after Spock's birth?

6) Jim's brother

7) Kirk on car (does anybody have a good copy of the trailer ? It's not on the DVD and I need the scene of the car hitting the road without "IOWA" written in the top left corner)

Have you found a source to redub Johnny with "Sammy" "Sam", "George" or "Georgie"? (Kirk's brother is George Samuel Kirk. "Johnny" was an edit they made after removing Kirk's brother from the script)

If you can't get him to yell the real name of Kirk's brother, could you just have him yell the word "Hay" only? Just cut out Johnny....

Avatar and Politics in general (mild spoilers)
Time

This is kind of pathetic.

"When I woke up this morning after watching Avatar for the first time yesterday, the world seemed ... gray. It was like my whole life, everything I've done and worked for, lost its meaning," Hill wrote on the forum. "It just seems so ... meaningless. I still don't really see any reason to keep ... doing things at all. I live in a dying world."

People are getting clinically depressed and feeling like killing themselves over this (or any) message film?

I am reminded of the first Matrix film, and how the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar tells Neo about the people who could not cope with the reality they truly lived in.

I bet this person quoted above, never spent more then a few hours at a national park or other natural area or wonder. Most likely spends most of their non working hours in malls, movies, or man made amusement ares such as Six Flags, Disney, or Vegas. There is a huge wonderful world still out there folks. You just have to look for it. Stop looking in corporate published travel information for travel ideas.  Take a look at Google earth and pick as remote a spot you can find and enjoy The Earth while you are still alive.

The other thing is that It's Winter stupid. As a rule, this time of year in the northern hemisphere things are kind of on the gray and brown end of the spectrum, and there is not as much color in the environment. Duh!

Anyway, the quote is from an amusing article over at CNN on how people on mass are experiencing "depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film".

A very politically motivated story about "Avatar" over at CNN...
