I guess im supposed to undermine everyone elses pictures whilst im under punishment. FF that was shit...again. Although i love your works in the past. What are you doing in the underworld anyhowz?

I can see you have no understanding of the genius or work of the late Mr. Frank Zappa. The albums entire packaging is made up of photos and x-rays of the band members dental work (or lack of). It was ground breaking and shocking at the time of it's release (1968). Since I was playing the album as I opened this thread, I felt it very appropriate to post. As for what I am doing in the underworld? Taking names of course!

Do you think you can make two new matte painting type mock-up shots for around the view screen? We only need to change the surroundings in the above two camera angles. I want it to look a bit more like it was Star Fleet HQ, and not the Enterprise rec deck. Also needs to be livened up a bit. A bit to boring, and 1970's looking. Just don't want this room to match the Decker/Ilia rec deck scenes later in the film too much. What do you guys think?

Speaking of the Rec Deck, are you keeping the scene with Decker and the Ilia probe? The idea of adding a picture of the NX-01 to the historical display has been around for a while. ;)

I would very much like to include stuff such as that. What if we could have a photo of the new 2009 movie Enterprise as well? I was never a fan of the Enterprise show, but can understand the desire to want to update that historical photo on the rec deck.

It might be a good idea if when Voyager 6 is revealed a point was made of mentioning Nomad.

That is another good idea. If we can pull it off with style and taste, I say go for it. But, how can we work this in without the viewer needing to have seen that original episode? Including too much new story material about what Nomad was may be a problem pulling off. ST:TMP has so much story exposition as it is. But I think I get what you want to accomplish with this. An attempt at fixing these little nit pick moments for us hard core trek fans. Like how it bugged a lot of us when the crew never mentioned the Lore character when they found B-4 in "Nemesis"!

Last night, I was playing around with the rec deck scene, and seeing if I could make it look like it was taking place at star fleet HQ on Earth and not aboard the Enterprise. Kirk is the only Enterprise main crew member we see in this scene now, and he will witness the Klingons getting zapped by V'ger with a crowed at Star Fleet HQ. It will look like he is just another officer attending. No Kirk speech is included, and Kirk will go right to the orbital office complex directly after the new HQ scene. It moves along very well, and all the main plot points about V'ger are now more closely tied together time wise.

Story order as of today...

Prologue: T.V. Show footage edited to look like Enterprise returning from five year mission.

Main Titles: White on black main titles (from theatrical cut), inter-cut with shots of the Enterprise in space dockyard. No shots of Kirk or Scotty in travel pod included here.

V'ger Cloud: Heavy edit of Klingon attack. Attack now on only one Klingon ship, Epsilon-9 section is edited, no Spock on Vulcan scene follows.

San Francisco:Shot of Air Tram flying next to Golden Gate Bridge on way to Starfleet in San Francisco, Tram station scene is removed, shot of Star Fleet Hq lifted from ST:IV inserted here, Kirk and group (from rec deck scene) now view transmission from Epsilon-9 of Klingon being zapped. The attack on Epsilon-9 section is not shown here.

Space Dockyard: Kirk beams to orbital office complex, ride to Enterprise (heavy edit)

More to come...

"The Breakfast Club"

A friend at a party could not stop talking about how great this film is, and every other person around us was in frantic agreement. I told them that I kind of remembered seeing parts on cable back in the late 80's, but my house mate had to flat out mention that he had never seen it. With that, our friends forced the DVD on to us to view at home. Well tonight was one of the most painful movie experiences we have ever had. Why do people like this film so much? The kids are all a mess, and the character I felt most sorry for was the school teacher guy. Why did they cry to each other? I went to High School in suburban New Jersey in the early '80's , and kids did not act that way. Thank goodness. And yes, I have had detention once or twice. I think some people (like the ones at that party I went to) are just having that "Nostalgia For an Age That Never Existed" syndrome, and believe that John Hughes movies accurately reflect the word and people of the mid to late 1980's. All these people are around my age (35- 45), but seem to have lived in a parallel reality that only existed for me in T.V. and movie productions.

A scene that still creeps me out every time I watch it. There are few films that have the ability to still phase me after years of repeated viewing.  I no longer flinch at Jaws, but I had for a long time. Halloween still has a few moments of shock left in it. Trying to think of more...

Oh yes...

A film that sill makes me laugh after more then 20 viewings. And, for me it's the most clever and surprise inclusion of an alien in a film.

Warb, you raise a very good point I think. Also, I think Tommy Lee Jones was chosen over Williams due to the direction they chose for the movie.

Tommy Lee Jones was also big box office with recent hits like JFK,The Fugitive, and Natural Born Killers. Billy Dee on the other hand, was doing not much more then T.V. roles from 89-95. He just was not a big box office draw when Batman Forever was being made. It's all about the $$$.

Someone already made a partial refit Enterprise they were going to use in the Phase II fan episodes:

http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/images/sneek/PIIent0000_st-MED.jpg

The problem/blessing about this: it's made by Daren Dochterman, the visual effects supervisor for The Director's Edition! I'm not sure how willing he would be to help a fan film of the film he helped basically fan film a few years ago, but it might be worth a shot to ask him to render us some new quick shots. I follow his blog (http://blog.darendoc.com/), but when I posted a link to the Special Longer Version, he removed it for fear of looking like he was supporting piracy. Still, he might want to help...

FF, I think you should ask him! Maybe he'd render some Klingon battle shots!

I'm willing to give it a shot, but only after I get some of the major problem scenes (that I have the skills to complete myself) finished. That way I have a good amount of finished product to show him (and other talent) as an example of what this edit is trying to (and can) accomplish.  I have no idea of how long a project like this will take to get finished, and would not want to ask anyone to commit that kind of serious work time until I have provided a huge amount of finished segments myself. But it's an exciting idea.

The "I definitely won't be seeing that." thread

"Avatar" it looks like shit generic story, and I don't like the look of the alien world.

"Alice in Wonderland" See above, and TOO EFFEMINATE

Any film where the Vampire(s) show off a six-pack.

"Wolfman"  Don't need to see Benny howling at the "Honeyyyyy Moooooon".

And most important of all (and disappointing), I will not be seeing any tax refund check this year. *frown*

Ok, so it's not a movie, but the funds I would have gotten would have helped me see more movies...

Hi Chaps,

It has been exactly 2 years since I first announced this project. In that time a lot has happened, both for me and others. Lives continue to be lived, for better or worse, some were just created this year, and some as can happen in families (mine bieng no exception) have passed on.

To be sure, I have been very busy for different reasons in different ways, but this labour of love continues. I do not have the luxary of time to only work on this project or it would be done by now, and frankly, my now 8 month old child, family, work, etc, are more important.

Having had had that, work continues, and this project WILL be completed, and as other have stated, it will be done the right way. As I've also stated before, just because I don't post progress in one moment or another doesn't mean there isn't any.

I thank you all very much for your support, and I look forward to giving you an update very soon.

Thank you for the update. Your dedication to this project and willingness to share it with this community is commendable and much appreciated.

FF

MOCKUP TIME!

They could be faded a bit, could be in slow motion, maybe pan across the 4:3 image.  This could be during the credits, each shot in between a credit or two, then after the Kirk on the Bridge start using the Refit in drydock.

FF, I think the credits have to come first so you could do something like this or just the beauty shots of the Refit.  If not, it looks like the refit occurs after V'ger blasts the Klingon ship.  I'm torn, because I like the idea of a cold open / teaser like the original series!

OMG!

At the end of the episode "Tomorrow is Yesterday" there is GREAT audio for this scene!

The Enterprise just had made a time warp back to the 23rd Century, and Kirk gets a radio call from Starfleet Command. Kirk smiles and he says the words  "Starfleet, the enterprise is home".

That audio will be excellent when put together with all the above footage you and SilverWook suggest.

Man, I woke up this morning to find all these great posts! Now I feel guilty that I had turned in a bit early last night, and did not get much work done. *grin*

What you have shown above relay helps get the creative juices flowing.

Lots of good ideas. You guys have a better memory for scenes from the T.V. shows then I do.

Last night, I started to try something new out. I wanted to make a new San Francisco scene at the start of the film.  The scene starts with the Air-tram flying over the Golden Gate, but cuts just before it shows the inside of the tram station. Next is the establishing shot of Star Fleet command from Trek IV.

We hear Kirk's voice (heavy edit from various audio sources) asking the computer to start a presentation (or long range communications). I then have audio of a Star Fleet base being attacked. The audio of the base commander is edited from the outpost distress call in "Balance of Terror".  The voice tells about an intruder, no answers to hails, High plasma attacks, lots of static. The voice is going to be manipulated with audio software to make it sound different from the TV episode, and the things he says are in a much different order.  I was able to steal shots of Kirk reacting to this presentation (or communication) from the transporter accident scene that will not be used. I'm glad Kirk is still in his admiral's uniform. Next we see Kirk beaming up to the orbital dockyard office complex...

I am going to see if I can use that footage from Wrath of Khan.

It's being ripped to my PC right now.Willing to test it out to see how it looks in that opening scene.

The outline so far......

1) Introduction of V'ger taking on one Klingon D-7. (a few brief Klingon ship shots and some computer screen graphics will be imported from Star trek VI) Epsilon 9 will witness this battle, and alert earth.

2) Main Titles (Enterprise in Drydock shots, sans Kirk and Sotty in pod)

3a) Possible inclusion of a new scene where V'ger meets up with a Reliant class ship and digitizes it. This I hope will Introduce more of a threat to Earth as well as explain why the re-fit Enterprise is now the only ship to be in Interception range.  This attack scene needs to come second, as V'ger would not enter Federation space and then go into Klingon space, then return to Federation space.  But I think the Klingons would cross the Neutral Zone to seek an attack on V'ger, as an act of Klingon vengeance. I will try to use shots of the USS Reliant from Star Trek II, and the disabled Reliant class ship from Trek IV. And, make it all from outside the ship perspective. I don't have any bridge shots I could use..

3b) Kirk beams onto drydock office complex, travel pod to Enterprise (heavy edit), Kirk goes to Bridge (all reference to meeting on rec deck is now cut)

4)Kirk meets with Decker in ER, Officers beam aboard (Ilia, McCoy). Decker protests about using warp drive, as Spock walks on Bridge. Spock goes to ER to work with Scotty, Ship leaves drydock, Warp drive works, Enterprise heads to Epsilon 9 (This is a new story twist)... The transporter accident is cut, as is the wormhole scene.

5)Spock, McCoy and Kirk talk in lounge. We have a flashback to Spock on Vulcan sensing V'ger and his failing the Kolinahr test. Shots of the Cloud and spock seeing Kirk on the Air-tram in San Francisco may be intertwined with this footage. That is how it plays out in the book. The Vulcan priest scans Spock's mind and sees visions of V'ger, and of Kirk, it's these visions in Spock's mind that makes her drop the costume jewelry on the ground. Then, we fade back into the scene with Spock talking to Kirk and McCoy in the lounge...

6) RED ALERT! The Enterprise on rout to Epsilon-9 gets a distress call from the station, and the Epsilon-9 vs. V'ger footage that was part of the rec deck scene, will now play out on the Enterprise bridge view screen.  Epsilon-9 is digitized.

7) Enterprise arrives at V'ger. Seconds later 3 Klingon ships arrive. Klingons attack Enterprise and V'ger. Enterprise does not attack back at Klingons, but V'ger gets Klingons. Then, V'ger attacks enterprise.

More to come....

Question:

Should Ilia be on this ship already as a crew member (remove most of her introduction, but no all of it), and we cut all reference to her sex powers and oath of celibacy? This way, Ilia can meet up in the hallway with Decker just after the ER scene (in which he is demoted) and not after he gets chewed out about not following Kirk's phaser order, in the now deleted Whormhole scene. I'm not sure how this can work. Suggestions??
