I'm still working on the work print. I'm just trying to trim and pace the film with all the footage that is in TMP now. After I do that, you guys take a look and tell me what we should replace with these new effects and footage from outside sources. Then I'll do another work print with all the new ideas and footage we all contribute, and then do the same thing again and again till we have a great project we all like. I know we are going to replace the first attack, so I am going to just mark that area of the film with a place card marker that says Missing Scene or something. Or, I will just use the scene as is with little modifications that you can disregard, as they will be replaced later on.
So far I have the film cut down quite a bit, and I am very happy with how it plays out when I assemble the scenes back together. I want to set up a file share account. I did not do much work tonight. It was a "LOST" night.

Perhaps you could add a few Klingons wearing the Star Trek 11 leather masks to hide the shame of their as yet uncured Terran look (once a cure was found it may have taken a while for everyone to be fixed and maybe some could never be fully cured).
Reading the above has just jared something in my memory. I know this has nothing to do with our edit, but here is a little bit of Trek trivia for all of you.
Did you know that In Star Trek III, the Klingon woman Valkris wore a leather mask? All shots of the leather mask had been edited out before the film premiered. There are production photos of her with it on. I think the movie program book has it. She removes the mask just as she makes contact with Kruge. You can see the bottom of it when she is standing behind the freighter crewmen, and asking them to open communications.

Nice to know that Angel is watching. What we really need is a matte for the following:

Do you think you can make two new matte painting type mock-up shots for around the view screen? We only need to change the surroundings in the above two camera angles. I want it to look a bit more like it was Star Fleet HQ, and not the Enterprise rec deck. Also needs to be livened up a bit. A bit to boring, and 1970's looking. Just don't want this room to match the Decker/Ilia rec deck scenes later in the film too much. What do you guys think?
We really just need a different shaped viewscreen and walls, as this room is used later in the movie. TrekCore has HD shots you could base them on.
This scene is being greatly reduced and altered. All the Epsilon-9 footage seen on that view screen is going to be changed to the bridge viewer. I have it all edited, I just need to make a few more quick changes to some surrounding scenes. This way, you will see just how little of that view screen will be used.

I'm saying that Lucas told the story following the DS plans, he could have told the same story and had the same end result had he followed the origins and history of the Millennium Falcon as the focus.
How would that have gone, and how would that have been the same story?
The Movie could have started with Han dumping the cargo of Jabba the Hutt, and his arriving at the spaceport. Next scenes could be his trying to avoid Jabba and his men, and then Luke shows up with Obi-Wan, and the rest of the story plays out.. That's how. Han needed to make money to pay Jabba back.
I should have said, the end results of the protagonists would have been the same. The only thing the DS plans do, is get characters involved with each other. It's a device to move the story along. And that is what a "MacGuffin" is. The story is not about the plans anymore then it is about the Millennium Falcons, or even the Death Star itself. Can't we say the story is truly about the Death Star, and how it is a failed and flawed device of war?

I think it applies here. As FF said, Star Wars (1977) is decidely NOT about the DS plans. The plot may center around the plans, but the story doesn't. The story is about the characters, the galaxy, good vs evil, Jedi Knights and lightsabres, etc...
The plot to Star Wars is about the DS plans. From scene 1 it is the #1 thing the drives the plot.
It is why the princess is captured. It is how the DS is destroyed in the last scene. If the DS plans weren't there, the plot wouldn't work at all. Regardless of the elements that make it a great movie (good/evil, lightsabers, etc) the PLOT is driven by the DS plans. They are fundamental to the plot structure on all levels.
The MacGuffin DOESN'T drive the plot. The money in psycho, the 39 Steps, the Maltese Falcon (which never acually appears in the movie), the briefcase in Pulp Fiction, the microfilm in every spy movie made in the 1960s; the identity of these objects don't matter to the plot, the only thing that matters is that the characters want them.
The DS plans, the Ark, the Holy Grail are all pivotal to the plot, and couldn't be replaced with anything else.
Luke becoming Force Sensitive, and the interpersonal relationships he makes, and adventures they all have together along the way is just as important as the plans if not more so. If Luke had not become Force Sensitive, and Han Solo did not intervene at the last moment, the plans would have not been worth squat. It was only because Luke and Han got together (through Obi-Wan's secret agenda) that the Death Star was blown up at the end, and the rebellion saved. Had the plans got to the rebellion without involving Luke or Han or Obi-Wan, the rebellion would most likely been wiped out. That is why I say the plans are no more important then the Millennium Falcon is without Luke becoming Force Sensitive and making his relationships with Han and Obi-Wan.
I'm saying that Lucas told the story following the DS plans, he could have told the same story and had the same end result had he followed the origins and history of the Millennium Falcon as the focus. You would still need Luke becoming force sensitive and hooking up with Han to get the end result of the film. The Death Star blowing up. With out the plans, no DS blows up, without the Millennium Falcon, DS does not blow up...

I thought the film was about how Obi-Wan seized upon the opportunity that the Death Star crisis presented. Obi-Wan's true motivation (and the true plot) of the film was to get Luke "Involved" with the rebellion, and therefor into a position where Luke could become the "New Hope" of the Jedi Order.
In fact, it was never intended that Obi-Wan would have anything to do with the plans beyond delivering them to the Rebellion. They did not even know what the droid was carrying. The main drive was Obi-Wan's snaring of Luke to be a Jedi. That Luke decided to Join the fight and blow up the station, was not the main objective. It was that Luke had become Force sensitive as a result of his involvement in the battle and blowing up the Death Star.

I like the proof of concept, maybe a little less "inside the ship". It'd be awesome to have just a ship entering the cloud and getting blasted, but that would be hard to do with with visuals we have.
Well, it would be impossible, otherwise I'd be all for it...
My friend wants to try and recreate the lightning effects from the V'ger plasma bolts as it hits a ship. If his test looks good, we could think about giving something like that a try.

Well I've got about 25 min of scenes edited and placed in order so far. These scenes are only rough tests, but give a great example on the pacing and content of the dry dock and launch sections. Johnny Ringo has done a great job on some tests for the opening scenes, and my footage picks up Just after Kirk comes on board, and runs up till they are about to arrive at the V'ger cloud. I'll try to get links to these tests out to you guys in the next few hours. Monday night at the latest.

Bumping this up as somebody has uploaded what appears to be a German broadcast of the new version to youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IBA0UO-PCE
I hope someone is thinking about sprucing up the Moroder cut with the lost footage! :)
The cut shown on the German T.V. has the newly found and restored Argentina footage, but fans should take note of a few things before delving into any new projects with this film.
Firstly the best ( or only) source at this time for the new scenes is that German broadcast. It was broadcast live on ARTE TV channel on Friday, 12th February 2010.
Note: The broadcast was at the same time covering a live event of the films screening at the Friedrichstadtpalast concert hall, Berlin. The film was also shown simultaneously at the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin, and the the Old Opera House in Frankfurt.
I've read that the films credits on the T.V. broadcast have an announcers voice on them, and all title cards are in German.
At the live screening, sources told fans that there is a plan for an official DVD/blu-ray release of the (almost) full-length movie in EUROPE in November 2010. This release will include the original score, which is to be newly recorded in June this year.

Please be very careful when buying a used player. Demand insurance against damage when being shipped. These players are very easy to damage. I got a few bad ones. Never knew if it was the shipping, or the seller was shipping a bad player to cash in on postal insurance fraud. Also, make the seller make the insurance claim if the player is damaged on arrival, you should demand a full refund.
And yes, there are players that play sides A and B without having to turn the disk over. Pioneer CLD-504 is one of them, and the player I own. In fact this is the second of that model I have owned. It's not high-end, but is a great mid-range player for my huge LD collection. It has S-video and AC-3 outputs. You can find them for under $300 US.

Ok, I am just going to spew out some random titles. I have no love or fondness for any of them. All the original series movies had "The" in the title.
Star Trek: The Resurrection
Star Trek: The Intruder Incident
Star Trek: The Evolution (V'ger evolves at the end)
Star Trek: The Return (too Jaws)
Star Trek: The Continuing Voyage
Star Trek: The Human Adventure
Star Trek: The Warped Edition
I don't like any of them....
I would think that more Trek fans would consider a title change to be more sacrilegious, then enticing. But that is just my opinion.
EDIT: I know! We can totally confuse fans by calling it Star Trek: Voyager VI Returns. They will not know if it's a original series movie, a Voyager movie, or a re-edit of Star trek VI. *wink*
