I think that Sanchez getting angry could been a trick.   It delayed the game enough so that Affeldt could warm up.    Of course Utley wasn't sending him any kind of message.   If Utley was trying to send him a message, he wouldn't have thrown the ball underhanded.

Completely Agree!

Someone mentioned MySpleen - what is it and how to I get on it, seeing as thought its the only way to get these Criterion preservations?

I believe you HAVE to be invited by a member.  I used to be a member a ways back...my account got pruned due to inactivity...and I haven't been able to get back in since...........good luck.

:)

Same here. I also lost my membership due to inactivity. I think they still have a few of my projects posted there. In fact, I found out about this very forum from the MySpleen members. That was about 5 years ago. The site also went down for an extended period of time.

FanFiltration's "How to Edit a DTS file"
Time

There must be a number of different ways to edit and re-incorporate a DTS Surround file back into an edited film project, but this is the way that I have found works best for me. So far...

1) First use  DVD Decrypter  to rip the DVD (containing DTS audio) to your hard drive. I use the default settings, and only change the output directory location.

2) You will now have a "VIDEO_TS" directory in the output location on your hard drive. Now you need to Demux the ripped VOB files from your movie with a little free program called Vobedit

Using VobEdit, you will output a number of audio (in PCM-WAV, AC-3 Dolby Digital, or DTS formats, depending what was available on the original ripped DVD title) and video files into a new sub-directory. I tend to name that directory just "Demux", and place it off the "VIDEO_TS" of the movie I just ripped to avoid confusion when I am working with multiple titles, or versions of the same film from various sources.

3) After Vobedit does it's thing, you should have a XXXX.DTS file in your sub-directory.  We now need to demux (or split apart) that file into six separate mono lossless PCM wav files. To do that I use a program called "Beesweet" with a GUI , and the azidts plug-in that lets BeeSweet work with DTS files. With BeeSweet, all you do is make a directory (I call mine BeeSweet) to hold the program on your HD, place the Beesweet program fies, the GUI  program files, and the azidts plug in files into this same directory.

4) Now you run the file called "BeSweetGUI.exe". When you open the GUI you have to specify the locations of a number of files it needs to use. It's mostly straight forward, but it can be confusing at times.

Just use this image to help.  After step #3, the program should export six mono wave files. One file for each of the six DTS channels.

5) I then import all the mono tracks into my film editing program (along with the video source so that I can keep in sync). Then, snip-snip, and save these six edited waves.

6) Now we have six PCM mono files that need to be re-complied into a DTS file for use with our project's video. For that part I would recommend using a program such ad SureCode DTS. Just to be clear, this is a non-freeware commercial program, and would have to be obtained appropriately.

Posting of comments, corrections, or other DTS editing methods is most welcome!

Superman the movie £5.99 on fleabay Wow just brought the laserdisc a few moments ago. I saw the price and it was too tempting to pass on.

PCM Dolby stereo 4.2.4 the cover looked in good nick as well. Gate-fold with easy to read text!

You're luck tonight love! I'd buy this one being sold in the US now! I just brought the one same one only the seller is in the UK so it should be flying to my letterbox within the next few days...

Take a good hard listen to that audio in headphones when you get that disk. I have 4 LD's of that film and they all have rot and bad audio issues. I hope you got a good one. A lot of my Warner Bros. LDs seem to have that issue.

"O.H.M.S.S." update:

I was having a bit of a problem figuring out how to edit the DTS file from the U.E. DVD. I had to remove that added shot of the tram station.

The solution was to...

Demux the DTS file to six mono WAV files with Besweet GUI, using the azidts plug in.

Work continues...

How exactly did you do that? I would love to rip and edit the DTS on TSWLM to make a complete score.

I'm still in the proses of doing this, and will be better able to write out the complete step by step instructions for you this evening after work.  In fact, what I will do is post all the instructions in the "How-To's and Technical Discussions" section, so other fan editors can reference it as well.

FanFiltration, have you tinkered with the adjustable video DNR settings on the 704 at all? Mine blew up before I really got started preserving my LD's (or had an HD set) and was curious if it's a help or hindrance now.

And did you get your hands on the early THX DVD's yet?

I have yet to understand what the DNR is doing exactly. So, no I have not used it on anything yet. I still need to d/l the manual for the unit.

And yes, I did buy the THX versions "Dr. No", "From Russia With Love", and "Goldfinger" on DVD used for about $5 each. I have not done anything with them yet, as I wanted to get O.H.M.S.S. done first.

"The Dark Knight"

Just got the Blu-ray of this.

I like this film more and more each time I see it.

I was not impressed when I first saw it in the theater.  A lot had to do with my being shocked by the radical shift in production design style from "Batman Begins". The more contemporary look of Gotham, the increase in verisimilitude, etc...  But now that I have had time to let it sink in, I find what a great piece of work it is.

well, I've decided I'm going to watch the Exorcist.   God help me.

You know the true benefit in watching "The Exorcist", is that it makes "The Exorcist III: LEGION" a bit more dramatic and gives you some background on some of the characters and their motivations.  "The Exorcist III: LEGION" is one of my all time favorites, while "The Exorcist" is not. But "The Exorcist" is still a great classic film. Just be sure to stay far far away form "Exorcist II". Now that is a horrific film, but not in the way fans want it to be.

I seem to recall much gnashing of teeth elsewhere about that curious error when the UE DVD came out.

Given how the studios sometimes grab whatever reels seem to be handy without really checking the contents, I'm surprised nobody ever released the ABC tv cut by mistake. ;)

I want to see that O.H.M.S.S. ABC T.V. abomination so badly! It was out in the torrents a few years ago as a faithful fan reconstruction, but somehow I missed getting hold of it. Yet, I do have the soundtrack audio around someplace, so I have heard it at least.

Even the website of the guy who made it seems to have gone missing.

I have vague memories of seeing it on ABC. (Honestly thought it was a made for tv thing at the time, as the other fellow wasn't in it!) All my early Bond experiences were with tv. I didn't realize until HBO ran all the Bond films in 1981(?) how much ABC snipped and sanitized them.

I seriously think an all 007 channel would be cool, actually. :)

I remember that HBO marathon. It was how I first saw the Connery Bond films, and I was hooked forever after. I also remember HBO showed "Moonraker" over and over, so much more then any other film in the series. I think that may have been before For Your Eyes Only, so 1981 sounds right.  Yes "Moonraker" was the latest film at the time, and that is why it played so much.  I also seem to remember that they did not play O.H.M.S.S. as part of that marathon at all. But they may have played it later in the mid 80's. I was forever searching for it on VHS at various video stores all over central New Jersey when I first got my license to drive.  I remember finding it one day, and I think it had a slip draw cardboard case and the weight of the VHS tape was like 3 pounds. VHS was heavy duty, and built to last back then.

So there is a need for a definitive O.H.M.S.S.!

Ok let's start the wish list for this edition....

I have the 1989 laserdisc dubbed to my PC hard drive now. I have the original mono from the digital channel in PCM. I can edit the 5.1 DTS to match the laserdisc video, and have an isolated music score from the CD soundtrack.

Is there anything that you guys would like done or un-done to this film?

I'm open to ideas to make this definitive.

"Thunderball" is going to be a bit more involved, so I will get to that next. I wanted to get my feet wet with a less involved compilation first anyway.
