STAR WARS Movies Animated

i havent really followed this thread much since its conception, so i apologise in advance if i am suggesting something that has already been mentioned!:P

the whole idea of creating an animated movie is great, but the amount of work is incredible, perhaps smaller projects would be more achievable?

would people be interested in (for now) considering some smaller 10 minute 'interquels' for episodes? like the original clone wars cartoon, or 'the faithful wookie' from the holiday special?

I was thinking that doing like that would work better. Kind of a Tune in next week. When each movie is finished then it could be combined into the full movie.

I agree--killing Mara Jade was a mistake, and whoever thought that up is a douschbag who should be thrown face first into a mud pit and sat on by an elephant.  (lol)  I've completely given up on Star Wars books at this point.  I've sort of come to the viewpoint of, "if it's not in the original movies, or if Timothy Zahn didn't write it, it never happened".  Those are the only SW stories I really consistently enjoy anymore.

Chewbacca was also killed off recently. Matt Busch had the honor of drawing his death.

But I agree Mara Jade was badass. There aren't enough badass women in star wars. I've liked mara jade ever since playing the Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 expansion pack Mysteries Of The Sith. It was fun playing that game.

I finally have seen the Ep1 file that was uploaded to tehparadox. Perhaps this has been mentioned somewhere and I'm just not seeing it, but the quality of the capture of SW, ESTB far outweigh the capture of TPM. Or at least the final products look a heck of a lot better. Perhaps someone re-encoded what's up on tehparadox? It's all soft and slightly blurry. There's a huge loss of detail for an HD. The SW capture looked amazingly crisp, as did ESTB...but TPM just looks terrible in comparison. It looks more like a DVD presentation rather than HD.

Keep in mind though I'm watching this from a 1080p projector on a 100+ screen. Adywan, does this sound like a re-encoding issue that's caused a loss of detail? or was this an inferior broadcast capture to begin with?

Can someone confirm what I'm seeing? It can't be my equipment.

no sorry its all down to the original HD broadcasts of TPM i rememember watching the marathon and being dissapointed with tpm's original airing it is the worst looking of the bunch and will need some serious attention for its eventual blu release if they release it as is the blu community will be in an uproar! lol ady has done amazing work on tpm the colour correction is superb and is night and day when compared to the other 1080p version i have (iirc it was a HV version) the overall quality is improved too less digital noise etc i watched it on a 130" screen and it was the best tpm presentation i have seen since 1999! :)

If George doesn't clean up his act on the Blu Ray releases he will lose a majority of his fan base. I pray that empire isn't blue.

The problem is not with AVG, its with your computer...

You either
A. Tried to update it via an installer from their site
B. Tried to get the Pro version installed from "wherever"
C. Messed around with the licensing

Either way it should be an easy fix, just go into the registry and update the key to a new "free" one

or

Format/Reinstall, which is probably needed anyway

Ok thanks.

It could be the uploader. Ady's original file looks pretty good from what I have seen. 1080p should look good on a 100+ projector screen. It has to be the uploader. It looked good on my computer. I haven't put it onto a dvd yet so I don't know if the download I have is gonna look good on my tv.

Antivirus for po' people?
Time

AVG is probably one of the most commonly used anti virus programs today. I joined the rest of the world about 3 years ago and I have been using it ever since. But AVG 8.5 on my computer expired and will no longer allow me to get an updated version without buying it. So I have come to a decision to step out of my cave and ask you guys, What is a free alternative to AVG? I don't want malwarebytes because it is awful harsh. I just want another straight forward anti virus program.

So what are my options and please remember I don't have a cent to spend on antivirus.

With Adywan letting slip that the battledroids will be speaking in PT:R, I suppose now would be a good time for discussing what the voices could be like in edits and how frequently they should talk.

Whould they use probe droid like noises when communicating to each other and English when speaking to human characters?

What should the tone be (comedic, menacing, neutral)?

This may be a handy topic for discussion and experimentation for lots of editors (not to mention the dub artists collective).

As much as the prequels try on the comedic and menacing side I say it is time we go back to neutral. Now if comedy can be done without throwing it out to the audience that hahahah he just told a joke then maybe it could work but so far the prequels jokes have been so silly I would prefer they just throw pies at each other LOL.

Very well expressed. Adywan really has created a fan edit of the highest order. It's a labour of love, and it shows. But it doesn't top Star Wars in its theatrical form, and no fan edit ever really can. To consider such things is to wipe out the colossal cultural impact Star Wars had, unblemished, for 20 years. No fan edit should be able to do that.

Of course, no fan edit could ever top Star Wars in its theatrical release.  As I had pointed out in another forum weeks ago, had it not been for the theatrical release of Star Wars, we wouldn't have any of the amazing fan-films or fan-edits, or even this website.

Hell we wouldn't have fan edits or this website if the special editions weren't the only way to watch a decent quality version of star wars. If they had just cleaned up the movie and maybe just maybe re-rotoscoped the sabers and blasters all would be well. I am puzzled as to why George doesn't want to release these masterpieces in higher quality than laserdisc. Hell he won't even release his beloved special editions on blu ray. 10 years ago I thought that George Lucas was a film and sound quality god. His films were this representation of the picture and audio quality on the planet. He used to grasp the latest technological achievements by the balls to make his films look just a tad better. Now Blu Ray has been out for what 4 years and he can't even release the god awful special editions or his horrible prequels on blu ray. It is a shame that many star wars fans get shit on every 5 years. 1080p is the standard today and the only way I can see the OUT is in 480p.

G.I. Joe: Worst Movie Ever Made? OR... No, Really, It's the Worst Movie Ever Made
Time

I think films have been getting severely worse and worse everyday. And guess what people like them. My brother in law is one of those people who if a film doesn't have one explosion it isn't worth watching. I looked at his dvd collection and it is full of Jet Li and Jason Statham movies. What happened to good calm tranquil films. Hell even the comedy films of today have stooped to pretty low levels. I want to go out and watch a movie that makes me say.......... A good powerful film is one that will leave the audience speechless. I just feel when I watch a movie today like I have seen it before. And that is the truth. Why are there so many remakes today. I hope one day to see a movie that has an original thought. I miss seeing movies that do something familiar but takes it somewhere. I feel that movies are being made just to be made. Hell they can get the rights to old movies or books and make some quick bucks on them. Then they take classics that were perfect just absolute beauties and slap a big stamp on them so they can make a crap load of money. Well atleast the we have the classics on some form of home video. I don't know why they needed to make a G.I. Joe movie. The show sucked and the action figures were just peices of plastic. It is pretty sad that G.I. Jane was better than G.I. Joe LOL.

Great - love the editing. But Yoda manages to kill off the OT.

Kill off the OT? I don't know what you meant in your wording but felt Yoda was just so much more than a powerful jedi in the OT. The PT should have better represented Yoda's wiseness. ESB was Yoda's shining moment. Yoda just feels watered down in the PT. When I watch any of the prequels I don't see Yoda at all. Sure he sounds and looks similar but he doesn't act the way he originally did. He just feels emotionless. As do all the jedi in the PT.

On the topic of ANHR v2, let me begin by saying I love the current edit.  However, there are still a few things (minor though they may be) that may be worth a second look.  Below are a few ideas for your consideration ady:

Darkening exterior to match time of day seen during binary sunset scene

I don't really know about the Tatooine scenes. Darkening it brings to much of the dreadful sepia tones back. I mean there isn't anything that states the time between the dinner scene and the binary sunset scene. Luke could have stood around and kicked around sand for hours. Or even checked the vaporators. It would be really important if we were shown what went on between those scenes.

Speed up Ben's "twirl" during the duel so it's more convincing?

I agree, I don't need it but it wouldn't hurt it.

I'm a huge fan of films that take place in a single room or location.  It's quite a task to pull that off successfully and Hughes' work on that film is excellent.  As Boost said, a truly iconic body of work.

The simplicity of setting a film in a single room just makes things REAL. I can relate to the Brat Pack of the Breakfast Club because I had plenty of In School Suspension Slips with my name on them. Spending a whole day with people I would have never talked to in my life. My bad deeds in school landed me some good friends.

He captured the childhoods of many. Vacation was basically a caricature of every trip my family took. The Great Outdoors is the exaggerated form of my camping trips as a kid. His realism was what I like the most. When I see his name in the opening credits of a movie whether it be as the writer or director I know that I am about to watch an excellent movie. Though I never had anybody try to rob my home I had been Home Alone on some occasions and I had a blast. The Breakfast Club spoke to so many teens on a personal level and so did Sixteen Candles. Everyone of his movies I can regard as true classics. I loved Uncle Buck so much that my VHS was nearly worn out. I know his films could be cheesy on occasions but he is still up in my top 10 list of Directors/Writers.

Since listing one of the movies would be an obvious answer, I am just going to go with EU stuff, even though I feel none of it reaches the level of the OT.

I am not going to lie to you all, as much flak as it recieves, I really liked Shadows of the Empire. Many fans seem to practically loath it, but I absolutely loved the very idea of it when it first came out. Many see Dash as an obvious Han Solo replacement, and sure, he seems to be that, but we already know the galaxy is filled with this scoundra,l type, so I am not sure why it is so hard to believe. His personality is lot different than Hans, he is very much his own character.

I liked Dash Rendar. And I really liked how much he looked like Kevin Costner in the N64 version of the game. Kevin fits right into star wars don't he.

Xizor really isn't as lousy of a villan as most people think him to be. I think it was an interesting idea to introduce organized crime into the picture. I know this was already done with Jabba, but quite honestly, do any of us take Jabba seriously as the mafia type? I mean, he is pretty retarded. He would have never caught Han had Vader not put a bounty on his head, and had Boba Fett not decided to double dip and collect two bounties on the same prey. Xisor definitely seems more of the type who'd have one of his thugs leave a Tauntaun head under your bed sheets in the middle of the night. To me it was cool to see a more hard edged side to this aspect of the SW universe that made us realize that Jabba was pretty small time.

I thought Xizor was a good villain. Haha he felt like a mediocrity to Vader. Jabba is a little on the punk bitch side of the fence as far as bad guys go.

Admittedly, it is pretty hard to swallow Palpatine trusting Xizor so much, at the end of the book it kind of explains that Palpatine was using Xizor to test Vader, but it almost comes off as Palpatine trying to save face and keep from looking like a fool, "What? Xizor was trying to use me?! Nah, pft! Ha ha! No, no. You see, I knew what a jerk he was all along! In fact, I was trying to use him. Suka! Hahaha. Well anyway, thanks for blowing him up. Congradulations. You passed my test. Good work Vader, high five!"

Even after ROTS and his unlimited power scene I still don't know why Vader didn't just shove that fat sabre up Palpy's ass. Vader could have easily killed him. George Lucas is so dumb on that part. Who would serve someone who you know is lying to you. After Pamidala died I would have just been all rouge and badass. GL made Vader a bitch on a tight leash.

Shadows of the Empire came at what I still feel was one of the most exciting time for SW fans. Star Wars had died out and was almost becoming obsure, then in the mid ninties it all broke out again and we had a bit of a SW revival. New books, new comic, new models, new toys, new games. For a young teenage nerd like me, it was pretty cool to be able to buy stuff with the name "Star Wars" on it in places other than the second hand stores and garage sales. Shadows came at the hight of all this, as an over blown scheme to grab as much of our money as possible. It was simultaniously a book, a game, a comic book series, a sound track, and a toy line. It was like a movie without a movie. But in my opinion, it captured the feel of the OT in a way the prequels never even came close to doing.

When the game came out I had everything from the graphic novel to the Outrider play pack. I even got another Boba Fett just because he came with IG-88. I admit like a fanboy I gobbled up everything GL put out that year.

Anyway, for anyone interested in experiencing Shadows of the Empire for the first time, or even just revisiting it, I highly recommend the abridged audio book. It is very accessable, is well read, and is fully scored, and can be picked up very cheap online on audio cassette or CD. Being abridged is actually a plus, as the book is quite a bit longer than it needed to be. I can't think of one part from the full book I wish the audio book included, it really has all the most important stuff. Next to the audio book, the junior novelization is also a good quick was to experience the story, without digging into the full novel.

The novel was worth the read though. Though on several occasions it seemed to have too many notes (whooops I mean to many unneeded scenes)

The game was my favorite though. It reintroduced me to star wars. I hadn't watched the movies for a while until it came out. As soon as I played the wonderful battle of hoth level I quit and popped in ESB and went back to my happy retardation. I thank SOTE for letting the fans know that Star Wars is still and will always be the best Science Fictional Story EVERRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Empire Strikes Back I liked it. I could live in a place like cloud city. I even thought about moving to Alaska so I could build my own Echo base when I was a kid.

Jedi Knight I loved the story of Kyle Katarn. He was like Luke Skywalker with Han Solo's attitude. I think Jerec had that Palpatine feel without quoting palpy like most EU bad guys do. The story was so OTish that it should have been a movie

Shadows Of The Empire I talk about this game/book/comic way to much. It was neat. Prince Xizor wasn't the best badguy but still was a good character. SOTE was so good because it paid attention to the greatness that is the OT.
