The only way to do that to the non-anamoprphic 1993 masters would be to blow up the letterboxed image, which would only make things worse.
Maybe... but I think the best we can hope for here would be a messy print up-scaled to 1080i... That's right we won't even get 1080p for the OOT because Lucas will want his latest special editions to look better than any other versions. I cannot understand why Lucas competed with himself when he released the GOUT? I mean simply giving us a copy in anamorphic widescreen would have satisfied just about everybody. On top of that a lot of people here would have had renewed faith in George Lucas. It's like George just doesn't want to let this fight go. What is he gaining by sticking it to everybody who grew up on his original creation? I'm starting to think he hates Star Wars and no matter what it will never be good enough.
He goes around saying "Oh every director wants to go back and fix things", but when I am done with something I am glad to be done. I don't like going back and fixing shit I did years ago. I have no problem with him "fixing" the movies, but he should show a little appreciation of the peeps who love the originals.
George could have easily persuaded my decision to switch to Blu Ray. He still can. But to destroy my last comment I revise it by saying this:
I will not purchase it until somebody gives me the big scoop on it. That means I am going to go on Amazon.com which is full of Lucas bashers to see if it is worth pulling out a chunk of change for. I stated my above comments because I own 2 box sets with the same crap on DVD, and I will not waste the my money on the same disappointment. I don't care if it is IMAX quality. Star Wars isn't blue and it should never be Blue.
That is way too expensive for something we already have.

Really, Gaff? It may be just a generation thing, but I've always found a lot of people preferred Columbus' take on the movies. At least for me, I know they feel more... magical. Less emphasis on dumb action movie trends - seriously, people, not even Harry Potter is safe from this stuff anymore! Although they were more liberal with what they cut than some, I felt they worked best as movies.
Feel free to disregard as irrational nostalgia.
I absolutely agree. When I saw the first movie, I was captivated by it. I wanted to go to Hogwarts because Columbus made it more magical. I think the direction has been good for the whole series because they are supposed to get darker. The fan base grows with the series, and it works. The only thing I have ever hated about the newer ones is the colour.

You don't like the HP movies? Not even the first?
Whoa, I didn't mean that, but thank you for pointing out how I need to word my statements better. I was referring to hating Twilight. I absolutely love HP and the first one is my favorite. So it is my bad.
Who knows, they might release them individually as well.
I don't shake things like this off as utter trash just to shake them off. Harry Potter is one of my favorite sets ever. But, for some reason watching commercials and seeing the people that drooled over it made me decide not to like it at all. Then I saw a few minutes of the first one and nearly barfed. I was forced to watch New Moon and wanted to slit my throat with broken shards of TV glass.
I went downstairs to see nothing but twilight and a bunch of women. I kept saying that I thought it was awful and they would say “No it’s not!!!”
Does anybody else hate these movies like me?
I feel proud that I hated Cats when I was a little kid.

I will probably just download the set to see, and it won't be cash out of my pocket.
Er...
...surely you're not openly admitting future piracy? Perhaps I've misunderstood?
I have owned many versions of these films so I think it is time I didn't have to work hard for disappointment.
I will probably just download the set to see, and it won't be cash out of my pocket.

... What kind ?
The booklet gets big enough: from about 40 pages forseen in the begining it actually comes to almost 60... lol! There must be about 15 pages of liner notes and credits- including a couple of pages for transitions - and believe me they're not too talkative: there's only the essential (... Nevertheless, the essential of all).
I am talking a big booklet for the whole trilogy!!!
A retirement home just on the outskirts of town had a fun day once a month. Well, the administrator thought it would be nice for the old folks to see a magic show.
She called up a local magician named Freddie MacMagic.
He performed disappearing tricks and pulled rabbits out of hats, the usual.
Then for his grand finale he pulled out an old golden watch.
He held it up for the audience and said "This watch has been in my family for years and years. It is made of solid gold and it keeps perfect time."
He began to swing it from the left and to the right.
"You all are under my control. Bark like a dog." The audience barked
"Now, Pat your head and rub your belly." The audience did as told
He continued swinging the watch back and forth. Suddenly the chain snapped and the watch fell to the floor.
"Shit!!!!" screamed the magician.
It took months to clean up that place.

When they released the 2006 DVD, Lucasfilm said that the laser disc ports were the best available source for the theatrical cuts.
It that is the case, where they did get the footage used in the "Empire of Dreams" documentary (included in the bonus disc of the 2004 DVD)? The footage in that documentary is definitly from the original version, and it looks better than what was relesed with the 2006 DVD.
What gives?
George thinks we are all retarded.
Everyone in this thread is now an enemy of the Republic!!!!!!!
ABC, you should really make a big book with your work. It would be a neat accompaniment to a box set of your restorations.

I was not really planning at the moment on adding anything to my edit audio wise for that scene.
I was more-so replying to Bingowings post about changing Dooku lines to make him seem less like a Sith.
On the other hand. I'm sure by the time I'm done editing I'll borrow some dialogue from a few other flicks. Lord of the Rings most likely.
There is a lot of good lines from the first meeting with Gandalf in Fellowship that could work. He tries to get him to join him in a way that sounds like he is a good guy.
Cloud city soundboard up.

I'll be sure to check it out when I have access to sound.
