Adywan,
Would you consider re-editing the Death Star chasm scene so that it appears Luke throws the grappling hook twice, missing the first time?

this was something that i was thinking of adding into the movie when everything was just in the initial planning stages but was scrapped before i started any work on it. So this won't be appearing in the final edit.

Adywan,

Thanks for admitting that. It makes me feel slightly less like a complete ass.

(Man, you guys came down hard on me for that one.)

zombie84,

Isn't it possible that the grappling hook footage scene was featured in a documentary or show of some kind? Not as an entire scene, but maybe as an out-take? That doesn't require a new IP.

I just find it hard to believe that all this is solely based on the novelization.

And this is aside the point, but didn't a small amount of the Biggs footage appear in a TV-aired SW documentary in the 80s?

Adywan,

I assume you are familiar with this SW urban legend. If not, you can read about it in the my memory isn't that bad, is it? thread.

I just think this would be really cool to see. Maybe you could do it as one of your "extras" that won't be included in the actual movie.

With some clever editing of existing footage, you could probably pull this off. The only shot you don't have is the hook missing and bouncing off. Based on some of the other things you've pulled off, I wonder if you could "make" that shot.

In any case, keep up the excellent work!

I'm starting to think this may actually exist somewhere. There are so many memories of this from so many different places.

True, Luke missing DID appear in the novelization, but how many people have REALLY read that? Not enough, I think, to account for all these memories. People must have SEEN this somewhere.

I think we can all agree it was never shown in theaters. But a TV special or airing may be the culprit.

Another bloody edit of TPM (* unfinished project *)
Time
I really like the direction this is going in. Here's an outline of how all this might tie together:

________________________________________________

Opening Crawl. Jist: the Republic has abolished slavery. In protest, the Niemodian slavers have prepared an attack on Naboo. The Jedi have secretly stowed aboard the tradefed vessels.

PAN DOWN to Naboo, with droid ships in orbit.

(Optional scene here where we see Qui Gon and Obi Wan drop out of ventilation shaft, observe the droid army, and discuss plans to stow away aboard landing ships.)

Landing ships head toward planet and land. (In some way we need to communicate that the tradefed plan is to attack Naboo from the Gungan side, enslave them first, then attack the Naboo. Also, Nute is not aware of the Jedi's presence.)

QuiGon saves Jar Jar, they encounter Obi Wan, and go to Gungan city. Jar Jar is surprised to see
that the city is deserted (rotoscope the city to be empty).

Meanwhile, the Gungans emerge from the swamp. Nute activates the droid army, and the battle ensues.

We cut to Gungan city exterior, as the Jedi and JarJar leave in a bongo.

Gungans fight and lose to Droid army.

A little exposition by JarJar in Bongo. He explains that the Naboo and Gungans don't get along. No other underwater footage.

Droid army rolls on to Theed, takes the city, and captures the queen. Nute mentions that the Gungans have been defeated and will be placed in concentration/slave camps. Nute says the Queen and her people are next.

Queen is lead away by droids, we suddenly see Qui Gon and Obi Wan appear and save them (we cut the Bongo's arrival at Theed, so we are surprised by the Jedi's appearance here). No mention of negotiations. Jedi take the queen to her ship and get off the planet.

Nute contacts Maul to track the Queen. She is needed to sign a treaty that will enslave her people.

Tatooine stuff (a whole other ball of wax).

Coruscant stuff (eh...)

They return to Naboo and have their briefing. The plan is to storm the city and capture Nute. At the same time, the pilots will disable the droid control ship. No mention of a Gungan distraction. (Why are they disabling the ship? As a backup to victory if the attempt to capture Nute fails, and to free the Gungans.)

*One question arises, going with MTHaslett's idea for a Gungan concentration camp (which I loved, by the way), what exactly will JarJar be doing in the end? I think we need to give him something to do. Should he try to sneak into the Gungan camp? Should he go talk to Boss Nass (who can be in hiding in the sacred place)?

End battles play out pretty much as usual (except no Gungans). Qui Gon dies first. Queen is captured next. Anakin ends up in tradefed ship. (Things are looking really bad at this point. The only thing that can save them is the force.) Then Qui Gon, already dead, uses force talk to help Anakin destroy the control ship (just like in ANH).

Ship blows up and gungans are freed, as we see droids fall over (as per MTHaslett's idea). And finally (I hope this can be pulled off as SomethingStarWarsRelated suggested), have the droids in the throne room fall over via rotoscoping. Queen: "It's time to negotiate a new treaty".

Palpatine's shuttle arrives and Nute is escorted away. Yoda talks to Obi Wan (but maybe this can be cut). Funeral scene (Obi Wan mentions that he will train Anakin).

Iris out to end credits.

_______________________________

This still leaves the Queen's identity unresolved, but I think it works well otherwise. This whole queen identity subplot is really weak anyway. Why does Nute have any reason to thing Padme is the queen before her decoy shows up? She's not dressed as the queen.

Some possibilities for revealing the Queen:

1) Qui Gon can address her as queen or highness when she asks to come along on Tatooine. Some whimsical music can play this up.

2) Maybe the scene with Boss Nass in the sacred place can be salvaged. But what help is Padme asking for? I'm a bit stumped on this one. Any ideas?

Help: looking for... Prequel Preservations...

Could these be sourced and made into DVDs instead of some bootleg source?

also, in case Episode III isn't available and I am just dillusional... my friend has an old bootleg copy (don't worry he owns the official DVD) that was pretty ****ing clean and was released a month before the DVD. Could this be the theatrical one or is it more likely the DVD screener or some ish?

Thanks in advance

I think you may be delusional. I don't think Episode III was officially available on VHS. I remember this caused quite a stink: some completists complained since all the other SW movies had been released on VHS.

There is a theatrical bootleg version of Episode III on DVD. It was sourced from a real thetrical DVD, transferred to Divx, then transferred back to a single layer DVD. This version is missing the end credits. It looks quite good, but there are some artifacts in the blacks as a result of the conversion to Divx.

Help Wanted: with my Episode II Edit's Opening Crawl....
Time
I thought the second paragraph needed some help, since it suffered from a misplaced modifier (the text implied that the Galactic Senate was on Kamino).

So, how about this:

It is a dark time for the Republic.
Thousands of star systems have broken
away into a separatist movement, led
by the nefarious Count Dooku.

To defend the Republic, the Galactic
Senate has ordered the creation of a
CLONE ARMY on the remote world of
Kamino. Emboldened by this new power,
several senators have called for a
declaration of war against the
separatists.

Leading the opposition to war, Senator
Amidala is returning to Coruscant to seek
help from the Jedi Knights, who may be
the last hope for peace in the galaxy....

(And yes, I have shamelessly stolen from THX )

This is a good point. But I bet Adywan has already thought of it. Besides, we don't really know if Adywan has anything special planned for the attack on the Death Star. He did say he wanted to keep the "surprise" of this edit from us if possible. So I suggest we not push the issue too much, because I want all the sweet surprises!

BTW, this planet could be Endor. Maybe that's the official "secret" construction site of all Death Stars.

EDIT: I didn't see Adywan's last two responses before posting this.

I think Geonosis is a good alternative for the blue planet in the clip. Here's my reasoning.

There are plenty of things in the EU about where/how the Death Star was constructed. But going solely by the movies, we really have no idea. So I suggest going for something that looks cool but doesn't confuse.

Blue looks good, but it is too much like Alderaan.

Yellow/tan is too much like Tatooine.

Red is too much like Yavin.

But red with a ring (Geonosis) is visually different enough so as not be confuse the viewer. For those with a keen eye, this would easily be identified as Geonosis, which is one possible location for the Death Star's construction. Plus, I think it would be REALLY COOL to see a red ringed planet in this shot.

Here's the PDF of Bantha Tracks #8 for easy download:

http://www.erikstormtrooper.com/banthatracks08.pdf

And here's the relevant text:

SW: At one point there were going to be twelve Star Wars films.

GL: I cut that number down to nine because the other three were tangential to the saga. Star Wars was the fourth story in the saga and was to have been called "Star Wars, Episode Four: A New Hope." But I decided people wouldn't understand the numbering system so we dropped it. For Empire, though, we're putting back the number and will call it "Episode Five: The Empire Strikes Back." After the third film in this trilogy we'll go back and make the first trilogy, which deals with the young Ben Kenobi and the young Darth Vader.

SW: What is the third trilogy about?

GL: It deals with the character that survives Star Wars III and his adventures.
