STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

Adywan, you might want to contact GoodMusician. He's a bonafide John Williams nut (and I mean that in a good way). I know he's done a lot of work in recreating and restoring the soundtracks.

How did you envision the prequels?
Time
gethedgical,

That sounds like a very exciting and ambitious plan. I think you're asking the right questions and going in the right direction.

Here are a few suggestions:

• Your idea of removing or severely reducing Yoda's role is interesting. If anything, it might make the Jedi seem more like a mystical band of protectors instead of a bunch of social workers with super powers.

• I always imagined the droids would be part of the prequels. I would like to see them stay (but not the way Lucas had them).

• The bad guys in the Clone Wars should be the clones and/or their creators.

• How about actually showing how Kenobi served Bail Organa in the Clone Wars.

• Give us some surprises. You could see everything coming from miles away in the PT. For this reason, I'm not sure the dual Palpatine/Sidious approach would work.

• More Tarkin. Governor Tarkin. He seemed to know Obi-Wan Kenobi in the OT.

• If you're going in the graphic novel/comic direction, I think it would be a good idea to use as much of the "look" of the PT as possible, including ships, planets, etc. That way, it will feel more familiar and we can all imagine that this is the real movie.

• And that reminds me, use some Y-Wings in the PT.

Cinematic Titanic- New MST3K Company To Riff Star Wars Holiday Special?
Time
As unlikely as it would be for Lucas to release the Holiday Special in any form, I really get the impression from the announcement that this WILL BE the Holiday Special. And the Holiday Special would be the perfect vehicle to launch Cinematic Titanic.

Authorizing the release as a parody - and not a "serious" release - allows Lucas to save face (and still make money).

Plus, if you consider that Lucas authorized Robot Chicken and Family Guy to do Star Wars parodies (both of which are NOT family-friendly), this makes even more sense.

Of course, I won't be surprised if Lucas insists on some alterations to the Holiday Special.

Would you give up ESB in exchange for...?
Time
My lack of love for ROTJ:

It's a Re-hash:
- Tatooine again
- Another Death Star
- Destroying the Death Star by blowing up its reactor core

Sheer laziness:
- Leia is the "other" Skywalker ("I'm tired of making these movies. Let's tie it up quick!")
- ALL imperial officers have the same rank (pathetic if you ask me)
- Luke's lightsaber is just Obi-Wan's stunt saber from ANH

Just sad:
- Boba Fett is given a rediculous end
- Ewoks are too cute

I voted no.

I love the original SW with a passion (I was born in '72), but it's just too hard for me to give up ESB. Some of the best acting in the entire saga is in ESB, and it's a mature movie that respects its audience. ESB finds a way to give us something new and entertaining in the SW universe, and it doesn't feel like a re-hash.

Now if the question had asked if I would give up ROTJ and everything that came after it, I would have voted with a big, fat YES.

"Lucas can't find home for Star Wars spin-off"
Time
The prequels ARE Lucas' experimental arthouse films. He just attached Star Wars to the names so he could make some money.

I think "experimental" for Lucas has a technical meaning, instead of referring to story or style.

Among other things, the prequels gave us:
- extensive use of bluescreen for live-action sequences
- totally CGI characters
- partially CGI characters
- digital filming

The story itself was merely a framework on which to place these technical experiments.

Adywan,

Just had the opportunity to check out the transcript and the new clip. Looks like it was a quality session. Sorry I missed it, but hopefully I can catch the next one.

The new clip is great. I love seeing Yavin in the background, but my favorite part was that little formation of TIE fighters zipping around in the background. It has a great continuity with Vader's line about several fighters breaking off from the main group.

There was one little thing that stuck out to me in the clip. In the shot below, the far off ships seem to recede too slowly, considering that they're going in the opposite direction. But maybe it's just me.

Keep up the great work. And get some sleep, man!

No more Star Wars from Master Replicas
Time
The only item I have from Master Replicas is the ANH Luke Force FX lightsaber, which just arrived a few weeks ago (after an excruciating delay). I'm thrilled with it. I've been interested in many items over the years, but the prices have always been too high for me.

MR has had a good run with (mostly) good products, and lots of people are willing to pay the high prices. I'm sad to see that they lost the license. Lord knows what kind of crappy company will win the license next.

Can anyone EASILY put these pics somewhere else? If not, it's no big deal.

The computer I'm on right now won't let me access imageshack. But I can see them later. It's just hard to be patient.

Well, now I feel like a putz for not bringing this up sooner. Sorry

There's always the HD version, right?

If it's any consolation, Aurebesh is used VERY frequently in the prequels. Lucasfilm kinda screwed the pooch with the consistency there. (shocker!) Come to think of it, there are different fonts in each of the six movies. I guess that's what you're trying to fix.

I still have a few more graphics to complete so i will be using your galactic font for these. Most people won't even notice the difference but i am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to things like this. Thanks for the font Erikstormtrooper. I still have 5 more movies to do so at least now those ones will be more accurate.

COOL!!!

And that new Death Star screen looks great. The skewing of the background grid implies that there will be some motion to the graphics. Sweet!

Are you still thinking this will be done Novemberish?

If the Roman Alphabet writing system is used in the Star Wars universe it ties Star Wars to a certain time on Earth. This takes some of the mystery and magic out of the films.

Also, it is very hard for me to believe that our Roman Alphabet would be used by humans off of earth across the universe. This is a system not even all humans on earth today use. The idea that every human in the Universe will in the future use, what is already an old writing system to us, in the future across the Universe is absurd.

I know this isn't the way the Original Originals are, but it is accurate to the Star Wars universe and is a change I fully support. Adywan, I am glad you are keeping the Aurabesh and including more of it.

I confess I'm a bit of a Star Wars font snob, so I'll point out that "Aurebesh" was never used in the original Trilogy, not even ROTJ. Aurebesh was created in the early 90s by West End Games. It is very similar to what is seen in ROTJ, but it was based on limited reference material, so many letters are completely different.

I understand that most people don't understand this distinction and probably don't care because Aurebesh is close enough. But Adywan, if this is something you want to possibly fix so that it matches ROTJ, feel free to use my Galactic Basic font (http://www.erikstormtrooper.com/galacticbasic.htm). I spent a long time researching and working on this font, and I think it's the most movie-accurate "Aurebesh-type" font out there.

Here's an example of Galactic Basic:

I've actually thought about bringing this up in the past, but I didn't want to come off as tooting my own horn. Although it would be a tremendous ego boost to see my font in your edit, Adywan, I completely understand if you feel it's not worth the trouble.

Want to see the original version? Here's a small postcard of what it used to look like.

(Of course, that implies that Star Wars has the same cultural value as the Mona Lisa.)

Why the hell did the lazy Emperor even think Luke would join the dark side and become his new apprentice?!
Time
I was talking more about the 1-6 story line. Among other lost opportunities, the prequels could have shown what the power of the Dark Side really was.

In the 4-6 story line, the whole scenario in ROTJ works a little better. We have to imagine what the power of the Dark Side is. We dont have the Sith "rule of two", so we don't know the Emperor plans to replace Vader until the end, and this makes Vader less of a willing participant in his own demise.

Lucas bothered to change dialog on the ESB DVD so that Vader is trying to hide Luke from the Emperor. But he did nothing to change Vader's motives in ROTJ.

The more I think about this stuff, the more I get depressed.
