Mielr,

I would say you might be surprised with your reaction to Adywan's edit. It basically changes some effects, but respects the characters and story. Jabba is gone. Greedo shooting first is gone. Many mono-mix elements are reinstated. And the film LOOKS great.

I don't hate the concept of a Special Edition, it's just that Lucas intended the Special Editions as a replacement for the OOT. If he hadn't gone that route, I bet a lot of us would feel differently.

But regardless - and this may sound corny - Adywan obviously loves Star Wars, which is more than I can say for Lucas. Adywan's spent more than a year and a half obsessing over the smallest details. To me, that alone makes this a must-see.

So go watch it!

New side ad freezing both firefox and IE
Time
It seemed like this went away for a few days, but I'm having the problem again today. This is happenng in both IE and Firefox.

In Firefox, I've noticed a "waiting for pagead2.googlesyndication.com" message in the status bar while the page hangs. Then after a minute I get a "Warning: Unresponsive script" popup.

This is the horizontal ad (not a vertical one) at the top of the page.

Spike TV ROTJ Summary
Time
The second synopsis is obviously better and less of a spoiler. However, I've always had issues with the first sentence:

"The Millenium Falcon flashes through hyperspace and creatures from all over the galaxy defy the Galactic Empire in this stunning chapter of the SW saga."

What an example of poor, bland writing. It's obviously filler to pad out the synopsis and make it longer. It could apply to any one of the OT movies.

Rant over

Idea: Family Friendly version of Family Guy's 'Blue Harvest'?

What exactly was different from the tv and dvd versions?

I can't find a definitive list, but there were several extended scenes (mouse droid, conversation before alderaan is destroyed) and a couple of new scenes (stormtrooper wedding, imperial news, and the appearance of Biggs). The DVD also features more explicit profanity.

Looks like I might be doing this project myself. GULP

Idea: Family Friendly version of Family Guy's 'Blue Harvest'?
Time

(Not sure if this belongs in the SW forum or here. Mods, feel free to move.)

Has anyone ever seen anything about a version of Family Guy’s Blue Harvest that has all the obscenities cut out? I know, you’re all thinking “What’s the point?” and “Won’t that have a running time of like 8 minutes?”.

My 5-year-old son saw this when it came on TV (perhaps not a good decision in retrospect). I bought the DVD version, which is even WORSE in terms of language, and I can’t let him watch that. But he sees it sitting on the DVD shelf and always asks if he can watch it.

He doesn’t get a lot of the innuendo (which would be harder to cut), so I’m really just looking to trim off several bits with bad language. Ultimately, I want to be able to sit down and watch this with him without having to hit mute every two minutes.

I know I can hunker down and do this myself, after I get over the learning curve, and maybe I will have to. But if it’s already out there somewhere, it sure would save me some time.

If I have to do this myself, does anyone have any recommendations of how I can EASILY and QUICKLY create a watchable version? Can I directly edit the VOB files without having to convert to AVI? Can I easily go in and cover bad langauge with some “bleeps”?

Thanks!

"Gap" in page caused by sidebar ads
Time
Over the last several days, I have noticed that there's a gap in the page that is directly next to the advertisements that appear.

For example, if I go to the Star Wars Fan Edits and Preservation Efforts forum, I see the heading "Announcements", and then as I scroll down there's a big patch of nothing except for the advertisement, and then as soon as I reach the end of the advertisement, the Announcement threads finally appear.

This seems to happen on the forum and sub-forum pages, but not the thread pages.

Since the gap is the same size as the ads, I get the sense that the ads are somehow causing this.

Sorry if this has been covered already, but has there been an explanation of exactly how the "de-special"' shots were done? (especially the one in Mos Eisley where the dinosaur was removed and replaced with the original white droid) I'd love to know how
to do that. Thanks.

This was one shot that was going to be covered in the special features on the DVD-9 but some of the files used in its creation were lost after one of the hard drive failures so, although i still have the after effect project file, i no longer have the video files used and would now take too long to recreate the whole process.

Adywan actually released a photoshop file for one of the frames from this shot. It had multiple layers in it (background, right wall, landspeeder, etc), and you could look at all the different layers to get an idea of all the work he put into it. Pretty cool. I think I may actually still have this photoshop file somewhere on my hard drive.

In fact, I have probably every file released since this porject was started. Adywan, if you think you might need any of these files because of your drive crash, please let me know. And they might make an interesting "Supplemental disk".

Star Wars Prologue - Epic Prequel Edit (Released)
Time
Now that I've had time for some self reflection, all I've got to say is:

I'm glad Anti-Matter has saved the Internet. I had heard web resources were stretched to the point of collapsing, but Anti-Matter has saved us all!

In the future, I'll be sure not to comment on any projects I haven't contributed to. (Funny, I didn't see the tip jar.)

Later, C3PX. I'll miss ya!

Ooh, look! A cliff...

Seriously, it was a cryptic and abrupt thing you did, Anti-Matter. It came out of nowhere and made no sense. People got confused and frustrated. Personally, I think you should avoid a blog or anything that draws TOO MUCH attention to your project. Just ask Infodroid and Jambe Davdar.

But back to Revenge of the Sith, it's almost 3 years old now, and kids seem to still be buying the toys, they must have done something right.

Like I said recently, I had to witness this shit firsthand several days a week when I was working at the Lego store. The only conclusion I could come to is that their parents are probably in their 30's and they all probably grew up with the original movies and therefore showed it to their kids.

Guilty as charged. Even though I'm bitter, I won't let that stand in the way of my 5 year old's enjoyment of Star Wars.

I will say that at least epiosde 3 TRIES to relate to the OT, even though it's half-assed and unsatisfying.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but if the OOT gets released, I think it might increase my interest in Star Wars again.

As we go longer and longer without a respectably-presented version of the OOT, I feel more and more insulted by Lucas and his lack of respect for some of his fans. If he can repair that relationship by releasing the OOT, I'll feel more comfortable about the other parts of the SW franchise. I might start buying action figures again. And I might even be able to get back into the books.

The shot of the Falcon esacping the slug always looked too easy for me. The trajectory of the ship looks off to me.

Trust me. I know slugs.

This thread is starting to embarass me.
