Return of the Jedi: Dan Edit - Clips Online (Released)
Time

Dan,

I finally had a chance to watch your draft. I thought it was very good overall. Here are a few detailed comments:

 • Nice dialog changes for Jabba!
 • Using the beginning of the band scene to introduce the entrance of Bouush & Chewie: brilliant!
 • The line "Let's get you into something sexy" goes by too fast. I missed it the first time.
 • During Jabba's "send the band home" comment, the thermal detonator can be heard.
 • Overall I think the Rancor scene with Luke should be restored. I know it has some hokey moments, but I think you can probably cut around them. In your cut, Luke is suddenly captured and has lost his cloak.
 • The Sarlacc battle - The second skiff is suddenly there with Luke on it. I realize this is probably to remove Boba Fett, and is maybe necessary to avoid hard music cuts, but it's a little jarring.
 • A personal preference: I think Han's line "It's alright. I can see a lot better" is not as good as "trust me". That change will fit more with the new attitude you've given Han in this film.
 • Good job removing "certain point of view"!
 • Having Chewie's growl distract the Scout Trooper is good, but he still growls a moment before, which for some reason doesn't distract the trooper.
 • The funeral pyre scene didn't work for me. The flashback scenes felt a little forced. I recommend you revert to the original.
 • The end montage sequence was a little too different for me. The new music didn't feel right. Ending the movie with the freeze frame and fade felt un-Star Warsy. I don't know what to recommend for this. But I think the views of Bespin, Naboo, and Tatooine need to go. There's no reason to show those places celebrating. Maybe we can still see Coruscant celebrating, but I don't think it's necessary.

Star Wars live action show on hold according to rebel scum article.
Time

All of Lucas' excuses of not making any money (or not enough) on any of his projects are now obsolete. I've read that he's prepared to give HALF his money away to charity.

If he has money to give away, his refusal to do things like release the OOT make no sense. Until of course, you realize it has nothing to do with money, and everything to do with ego.

I could understand that maybe he wants to make sure something has a high enough quality before it's released. But it's a bit too late for that.

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, and I was hoping you guys would go easy on me, (I mean come on, 756 pages to read through?!), but what about Leia's dialogue when turning the Falcon around, back to Luke?

Will the line "I know where Luke is", be kept?
Or will Ady change it back to a second "We've got to go back!" ?

The line is also featured in the Story of the Empire Strikes Back. The quality is better, but I'm not sure if Ady could use it.

I am still looking for something to talk about in the other control room. It does of course make another appearance in the film when Vader and the Tie Fighter pilots head to their ships. It's just to the left of the screen.

Have you commented about the trooper hitting his head on the door? Which is then referenced in Attack of the Clones?

Doesn't this control room also appear in the deleted Chief Bast scene that was used in the Holiday Special?

Could you comment on the way that the actors had to freeze while the doors opened and closed, to achieve the "fast door" effect?

A bit of trivia: the actor who played the "TK421, do you copy?" officer reprised his role for the fan film The Dark Redemption.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)

Dark Jedi,

I just checked out your V3 sample on my 5.1 system. The picture quality is passable (I know it's just rough, and it is from the GOUT after all). Hairy Hen's 5.1 mix is the star of the bunch though (it shows as 3/2.1 on my player). It sounds very full compared to all the others, even when my receiver tries to upmix them to 5.1.

If I may make a humble suggestion, I would recommend you make Hairy Hen's 5.1 track the first track. I'd hate for someone (who doesn't know how to change audio tracks) to judge this disc by the default mono mix.

Maybe this:

track 1 - '77 DD 5.1 upmix
track 2 - '77 Theatrical
track 3 - '77 Mono
track 4 - '85 Stereo remix (taken for Japanese Special Collection)
track 5 - '93 Stereo mix

That is actually the order in which the tracks were released.

Also, I want to try and stay away from major plot changes at this stage in the game- the one exception being that Syphodias is actually Qui-Gon, because if we can get the new dub, that should be a quick fix and makes Qui-Gon's character much more important.

Awesome!

I am still back to the same quandaries as before though:

-What to do about Maul=Grievous in this movie (if anything).

-How to handle Jar-Jar...English or alien with subitles?

I recommend:

-Leave Maul and Grievous separate

-Subtitle Jar Jar with alien dialog. This will probably result in a more professional result.
