Also, perhaps as soon as Anakin runs in when Mace has Sidious cornered, Sidious' face can revert back to normal so Anakin doesn't see him as a Sith as much. But as soon as Mace starts to piss Sidious off again ("You have lost"), the face could change back (especially if you're keeping the "No, no, you will die" line, which I've always liked as it's the moment, in the original version, when he lets out thousands of years of Sith frustration and hate in one line).
Thoughts?
This is a good idea. I like it (except for the "no, no, you die" line).
Very nice! The morph effect is seamless.
The "so be it, jedi" gave me another one of my crazy ideas. It would be sweet if, after the lights go out, Palpatine fries the other three jedi with lightning. Leaving only Mace. Then the lights come back on momentarily, and the Mace and Palpatine fight starts. It's probably not possible given the available footage, but I can dream.

Never buy from the source, though. :p I've seen it for as "little" as $175 elsewhere.
Always buy from the soure !... The real one (the manufacturer for instance). :P
Why give Lucasfilm $400 when you can give someone much less for the exact same thing?
Well, if we just give George enough of our money, he won't be poor anymore and he'll be able to afford restoring the OOT.

I was not surprised that Philip Wise, or any staff at RebelScum.com did not reply. His nose is so far up Lucasfilm's ass.
That's a shame. Back when he started rebelscum around 13 years ago, Philip was just a regular schmoe.
My site is small beans when it comes to Star Wars sites, but I'll see about crafting an editorial about the issue and putting it up at erikstormtrooper.com.
Have you tried Adam Pawlus at galactichunter.com? T-bone at T'bone Star Wars Universe? Roger Ebert?
As tempting as it would be to say yes to CO's question, I'm gonna say no.
A big part of my childhood (for better or worse) was filled with my Star Wars toys and my imagination. In spite of Lucas' many lame moments, the Star Wars universe has been a pretty fun ride over the years.
I think it's been shown in the past that the PAL master from 93 was different from the NTSC master. If nothing else, I think the different framing confirmed this (Moth3r can probably back this up).
Why didn't they use the superior PAL master for the GOUT instead of the NTSC? One of the great mysteries of the universe.
Bobgarcia, the effect is VERY nice! I would just suggest that once you start to use it, it should "stay on". Once Palpatine realizes he's been found out, he should let his illusion down once and for all.
The jarjar one sounded more professionally done. And the dialog changes were nice. But it struck me as a little to "earthy" and colloquial for an alien, if that makes any sense.
The niemodians were a little rough. I'm not sure that accent works for them. Have you thought about trying to come up with some new niemodian sounds based on the sounds made by the duros creatures in the cantina?
Out of all the things wrong with Episode III, I was never really that bothered by order 66. What's the problem with it?
L8wrtr,
I just got finished watching your edit. I've got to admit I've gotten a little burned out on Episode I edits - how much can you polish a turd?
But this was worth it! I think this may be as far as anyone can go with this movie, aside from inserting new live-action & CGI scenes.
I really enjoyed the re-sequencing of the final battles. Seeing Anakin run into that fighter was quite a moving moment.
I downloaded the single-layer version, and I think this is definitely worth the dual layer download. But I did notice that several times the commentary seemed like it wasn't timed to match the action - like you would pause to comment on something that had already happened. I know it wasn't a sync issue with my player, because the underlying movie soundtrack was matched correctly.
When my 7-yo son asks to watch the Phantom Menace, this is the version I will put on for him. Thanks!
I'm gonna go ahead and re-open an old wound with this question:
Does anyone know if the matte lines were visible at this screening?
So did anyone run into Zion at C5?
You know, the SE DVDs were getting a bit stale and boring lately. George sure has shaken things up around here with his release announcement ;)
Star Wars fandom: the gift that keeps on giving.

By the way noticed another flaw in the 2004 SEs the other day - at one point Vader and Obi's sword switch colours for an instant!!!!!! Deliberate creative fuck up, sorry decision!, or was it done as a slight joke/wink? Would be cool to have a screen cap of that on Save Star Wars.
I think the saber switch has always been that way. Screenshots are here: http://thelightsaber.com/drupal/node/15
Pretty much. I emailed him that question, and he responded that he probably made it up. He said it was a long time ago and couldn't remember exactly.
I understand the disappointment, but I don't know how everyone didn't see this coming.
But the theatrical version of Star Wars will be released one day - it's inevitable. It could take another 20 years, but it will happen.
Look at the efforts taken to restore the original cut of Metropolis. Star Wars, ESB, and ROTJ will get this level of respect and care one day. I just hope I'm around to see it.
zombie, that's certainly possible. But why would they have to go through all that trouble back in 83? Why would they have to piece together a scene that they had storyboards for?
Call me a crackpot, but this whole scene looks pasted together.
Take some generic Vader footage and audio outtakes, add in a darkly shrouded figure constructing a lightsaber, CG in a Luke face in the very dark hood, and throw 3po in the background (the only real footage shot for this scene).
Instant Deleted Scene!
(Yes, after years of being lied to by Lucas, I am this jaded.)

I know the music was scored in '82 - I'm saying it's nice to be able to hear it now WITH the scene in question :)
And that dialogue is not re-used - it's all 'new' though certainly sounds familiar on a cursory listen.
Nope. I listened to it 3 times.
The first 2 "luke's" are looped/exactly the same.
And the rest is re-used.
According to this link:http://www.starwarsholidayspecial.com/swcs/main.html,
...it would seem that I was right. Probably very little of this footage is actually old.
I think the link you want is:

Lame Hasbro is lame.
At the time the GOUT was released, he made some kind of comment to the effect of "Let's see how this release does and if this is what people want". I inferred this to mean, "if the GOUT makes enough money, I might consider a more respectable OOT release later."
I've always taken his line "Much like your father's" to mean "It looks a lot like your father's lightsaber". Which is false. It looks nothing like Vader's. If anything, it's like Obi-Wan's.
Possessed,
I checked out your edit. Having just watched Daneditor's cut, it's good to see both of you ended up cutting a lot of the things I have issues with.
Overal this was pretty good, but there were still a few things I'm hoping you might tweak:
