Wait... what made the Empire so evil again?

This is an interesting question. In the 1970s, people could easily see the evil in the Empire. Today, it doesn't register so much. Sad, really.

Why do you think this is?

I think too many people have the attitude that some things are for the greater good, that you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet, the end justifies the means, etc., etc.

//RETURNING TO JEDI\\: NTSC & PAL DVD
Time

zeppelinrox, I managed to give this a spin last night, checking out a few scenes here and there. Overall, I'll give this a thumbs up, as it's the only complete version of Retuning to Jedi I can watch on my TV. Thanks!

I think I do notice the jogging that JediTray is talking about. It's like a frame is getting dropped every second. But it's only noticeable on scenes where the motion is fast - like where the TIE fighters fly over the Emperor's tower, or where the Rebel fighters & Falcon fly through the Rebel Fleet. It's not a deal breaker for me.

I fully admit I haven't spent the time to read back through the last several pages again...but is anyone else besides JediTray complaining about the NTSC version on FE.org?

I finally checked my NTSC copy, which was downloaded from FE.org one year ago, and it sounds fine - no speedup at all.  Video looks fine too.

I had a problem with the FE.org version - strange cropping at the bottom of the screen. But only on my 16:9 TV. The 4:3 TV displayed it properly.

Tazmanian Yoda
Time

This comes down to the fact that George Lucas and the serious fans have different visions of Star Wars.

George thought the fans wanted to see Yoda finally let loose with a lightsaber. For casual viewers, he was somewhat right. I've spoken to many people who have no problem with Yoda bouncing around. But serious fans know this is out of character for Yoda.

SW Episode III - Reign of the Dark Side (* unfinished project *)

Bob, the push effect might work, but he's missing his cloak, as has already been pointed out.

But I think this fine tuning ignores the bigger picture: Anakin's turn in Palpatine's office is too quick. His mind should already be made up when he comes into the room. He should just walk in on the fight and chop off Mace's arm without saying a word. None of this "He must stand trial, blah blah" stuff.

I think turning to the Dark Side should be a big decision or moment. In the movie we end up with: "Well, I'm conflicted about what to do. Oops. Maybe I went too far in cutting off Mace's arm. But I guess I'm too deep in the Dark Side now to turn back. I might as well pledge myself to the Sith Lord."

I still have the Gkar set. About 4 years ago, I made copies of the original discs I was sent. My copy of ROTJ still seems to be good, but I haven't double checked the other discs.

If you would check i would be greatful.  Even if all you have is Jedi.

Apologies to DarkJedi for hijacking his thread.

Is there any easy way to check on a computer without actually watching the whole thing?

Speaking of the weaknesses of ROTS, I always thought Anakin's abrupt turn to the dark side was the biggest flaw. I don't think Bob has addressed this, but I could be wrong.

Here's an idea I had that I posted last year in the Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread. I've always thought this would work great as a way to somewhat explain Anakin's turn.

Here's an idea I had regarding his quick turn (but not relating directly to the "reason"). It seems to me that when he confronts Palpatine and discovers he's the Sith, he's almost ready to kill him, but he changes his mind so quickly later. Instead, as per George's original plan, edit the scene in Palpatine's hallway so that Anakin seems conflicted by Palpatine's admission. He ignites his saber breifly, but after some prattle from Palps (insert "reason" here), he turns off his saber, and Palpatine smiles. Scene ends. (Anakin never alerts Mace. The Jedi already suspect Palpatine will not turn over power. I think there's a deleted scene that may be useful here). When Mace shows up, Anakin is nowhere to be seen. But he's actually sulking conflictedly in the shadows (maybe footage from the council chamber scene could be darkened and rotoscoped). While the duel continues, Anakin experiences his true turn: an emotional crescendo where we hear in his mind waves of overlapping voices (Qui Gon: "He is the chose one", Palps: "I see you becoming the greatest of all the Jedi", etc etc.). The voices continue and jumble up, getting louder and becoming unbearable (the right music could really sell this). Just as the voices reach a peak and crash into silence, Palps seems to be beaten. Anakin, now turned, suddenly steps out to quietly dismember Mace. After the electrified Mace flies out the window, the kneeling Anakin simply says "I will do whatever you ask, my master."

Bob, based on the great work you're doing, I'm wondering if you might be able to pull off something like this.
