How did you think things would play out in episode III?

I expected Anakin to die in the lava. I expected Sidious to bring him back to life using the Dark Side, the catch being that Sidious has to consciously channel the Dark Side for Vader to remain alive. That is Sidious' power over Vader ... the true "Power of the Dark Side" ... the reason Vader "must obey".

Plus, if Anakin really dies, Obi Wan would not have to make the decision to walk away from his dying friend. And he becomes less of a liar in ANH when he tells Luke that Vader murdered his father.

This would have changed the nature of the OT more than anything that was in the Prequels. If Vader is literally an unwilling slave to Empy, then there is no redemption for him as he's being actively coereced to do evil by a very real threat.

And how does it make Obi less of a liar?

Vader may be a slave, but his redemption becomes more powerful because he knows he's condemning himself by turning on his master.

Obi's less of a liar because Anakin really is murdered. He's still a liar, he just goes from 9 to 6 on the liar scale.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

If they accept Darth Editous' version but not yours, Adywan, then it's obvious they're not operating on logic here.

My guess is, they denied the Purist because its name makes it sound like a restoration. Maybe they want to avoid the appearance of promoting a restoration, even though they know it's not.

*Now this would need a bit of work......I'd also like to cut out the SE CG Stormtrooper & Dewback, would love to redo the Landspeeder approach to Mos Eisley (would need new background matte) remove the Stormtrooper hanger that Han runs into on the Death Star.

*But this is perhaps another project.

Don't forget Ady is planning on doing a Theatrical Reconstruction of ANH after he finishes ESB-R.

What age should my kids watch Star Wars?
Time

The starting age depends on the movie, and what kind of experience you want them to have. If you want to sit your kids down, show them all 3 movies, have them understand what's going on, and have them remember it, I'd say 7-8 is the right age.

If you're talking about just Star Wars (Episode IV), I really don't think you can be too young for this movie. It's just good, clean fun. FWIW, I was 5 when I saw Star Wars in 1977. I think you need to be about 4 to "get it" though.

For ESB, Luke getting his hand cut off can be very scary. I think my oldest was about 5 or 6 the first time he really saw this, and he was pretty shaken up. When I saw this in theaters in 1980, I remember being scared and tempted to hide behind the seat, and I was 8. I don't think ROTJ is as scary as ESB.

In my house, any one of the original trilogy can be playing at any time. Over the years my kids have been exposed to Star Wars in bits and pieces. I don't think there's any real harm in that approach, as long as you skip through a few scary parts.

I fail to see how someone can say "Star Wars is lost" when some guy has a Technicolor print of Star Wars sitting in his home. But beyond this, the OOT will never literally fade away for good. If Lucas doesn't restore it himself in the next eight or nine years, someone will after he dies. Even if his will says "don't release the OOT," mark my words the second the dust settles from his grave there will be a squad of fans, professionals and corporate executives trying to find a way around it, and eventually they will succeed. It's essentially a waiting game, one way or another.

I totally agree with this. The demand for the OOT will remain high, and someone will find a way to fill that demand. If the future license holders of Star Wars are smart, they'll find a way to profit from this. If they're not, I'm sure a high-quality fan restoration will eventually show up.

But you know, I find it hard to believe George would forbid any OOT releases in his will. I just can't see how he would rob his heirs of those profits, and knowingly seal his legacy as a suppressor of film history.
