Star Wars in 50 years.
Time

I think Star Wars will remain an important cultural icon, like the Wizard of Oz. But in 50 years, I don't think there'll be much new Star Wars content being created. The original trilogy (even ROTJ) will be seen as truly great films, while the prequels will be regarded as mediocre. And we will have the theatrical versions of all Star Wars movies in the latest video standard.

After George Lucas dies (probably in about 20 - 25 years), the Lucas worship will go through the roof at first. His faults will be overlooked much like Michael Jackson gets a free pass nowadays. But in time I think Lucas will come to be seen as an illusive shadow figure, like Howard Hughes. I predict a movie about his life story: The Tragedy of George Lucas.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

It will be interesting to see the sales totals for the different box sets. In a just world, the Prequel Trilogy will have the lowest.

When the 04 DVDs were announced, did the original trailer show us anything new?

FYI, if you miss Kenkraly, you can check out his thoughts here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1243512&page=60

Although the shots work, I don't think there is any need to show Luke leaving Dagobah. The cut would be smoother going from Luke and Obi-Wan's conversation straight to the establishing shot of the DS. Would also leave a little more mystery to the cloaked figure (Luke) entering Jabba's palace.

One more thing, I love the shot of the x-wing and the Falcon in the desert (add a little blowing sand and it would easily pass as a live action shot!) but I think the transition would work better cutting from the space shot of Tatooine to the droids in the desert. No need to let the audience know who's already there and who isn't until they reveal themselves.

I agree that the shot of Luke leaving dagobah is not needed. It's a bit jarring to see Luke flying off, then suddenly we have the imperial fleet. I think you should go straight from Ben's emperor line to the scene of the emperor arriving.

But after the emperor's scene, I think we need to show an establishing shot of tatooine of some kind. I think we can do better than the recycled shot from episode IV.

I believe there's a shot of the falcon and X-wing arriving at Tatooine from the menu of the 2004 DVD of Return of the Jedi. If we can rotoscope the Falcon from that shot, it would be the perfect arrival scene. I think showing the falcon and xwing parked together works as it.

Come on George you can stop this in one move: Release the original versions of the OT restored for the fans that enabled you to do your movies in the first place and peace will be restored. You can do whatever you want with the SE and we won't care because we will have our preferred version in perfect quality.

MTHaslett makes some very good points about Vader's personality in ROTJ. Between ESB and ROTJ, Vader has had a radical change of perspective, and he's switched from overthrowing his master to blind obedience.

If there's a way to edit this so Vader appears stronger and more consistent, I'm all for that. But it's such a prevalent feature of the movie that I'm not too positive it could be pulled off.

And Possessed, cropping the matte painting to focus on the ships would be perfect, as long as the resolution holds up.

The music sounds great!

I think the clip works fine without the orbital shot of Tatooine.  It is R2 and 3PO out in the desert.  Where else would it be other than Tatooine?  If you wanted to announce it is Tatooine through the music instead of a visual, you could drop in a very small segment of music from the original Star Wars score from when the droids were wandering in the Jundland Wastes.

Well, see from a storytelling point of view it looks fine.  The main reason I added it was just to slow things down a bit.  Imagine how fast that would be, that would have the story literally jumping from luke and r2 on degobah and r2 and 3p0 on tatooine in the span of about 9 seconds.  Now with the orbital shot, it's at least 15! lol.  You're right tho, it doesn't look very good.  Maybe I should replace it with a generic shot of just a desert of tatooine?  Would be a better establishing shot and still slow the pace down.

What about a slow zoom in on the matte painting of the X-Wing and Falcon parked in the desert? Could that work as an establishing shot?

I wonder if the whole glove thing was to remind the audience about Luke's robotic hand - which becomes important at the end of the film. The movie does the kinds of introductions (Leia takes off the bounty hunter helmet and Han says "Leia") and exposition (3PO explaining about how Han was frozen in carbonite) that you might expect for a first-time viewer.
