The thing I am suspicious of is why release a trailer showing 2004 transfers of the OT if that is not what they are going to release? Furthermore showing new PT transfers in the trailer and not the OT, must steer more towards this is what we are getting. I mean, why show one new transfer and not the other? I'd like to think there is a genuine good reason for it but I just think it is wishful thinking, probably because there is no new transfer of the OT..

I'm pretty sure the original SE trailer for ROTJ features some non-SE shots. So the trailer for the Blu-Ray set is not really conclusive proof of what we'll get.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Harmy, I know you toned down the overly-blue color on R2 as much as possible, but I think there's one that you missed. I don't have my disc with me right now, but I think it's around 8:40 or 8:50. It's the shot where, as the droids walk away from the pod, and R2's head comes up over a dune in the foreground.

You seem to have corrected the blue when the camera comes back to this angle a moment later. Can you give this shot the same treatment?

Harmy,

Since you're going to be working on a 2.0, I wanted to make a suggestion about something I noticed.

Remember those 3 shots of the Falcon sitting in the Death Star hangar bay - with the first 2 restored from a photo of the theatrical print, and the other 2 restored from the GOUT? The first is a long shot, where the 2nd and 3rd are closer and slightly different.

From playing around in photoshop, I noticed that the 2nd and 3rd shots are altered versions of the first. The mandibles, radar dish, and some details on the back are slightly different, but the cockpit and main saucer are the same. You'll have to rotate the layers slightly to get things to line up.

This might help if you if you want to improve the 2nd and 3rd shots.

Centre channel speakers should be matched to the other speakers, and not be weaker.

You can listen to mono soundtracks through the left and right speakers (effectively creating a "phantom" centre) but this is not ideal - you need to be sat dead centre between the speakers. It's better to use a "real" centre if you have one.

1.0 tracks default to the centre speaker because that is the ideal way to hear them.

This is how I listen to some of the mono tracks I have, but I do know it can sound off on some peoples setups, dialogue in particular. What I still don't get is why do most of the releases including a mono track, include it as a 2.0 mono track when the guide at the Dolby-site states it as an "incorrect" and unnecessary way of encoding a Dolby mono track. Any special reason behind why most companies do this? I think many of the Criterion releases have them as 1.0 though.

How does an analog tube TV with stereo speakers play a 1.0 track?

If it comes out of only one speaker, I can see how the DVDs would convert the mono to 2.0.

More of a random question: Which should I watch first out of Star Wars Begins and Deleted Magic?

I suggest you watch Deleted Magic first, then Star Wars Begins. If for no other reason, that's the order they were released in :)

Deleted Magic has some parts that drag on for a bit. SWB, which is slightly more well polished and reflects more current knowledge of the movie, is good to end with.

If you don't have Deleted Magic yet, you might want to look for "Deleted Magic Revisited", which is an updated version with improved deleted scenes.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I watched this last night with my 2 sons. What a great experience.

I think I finally have an original version of Star Wars that I can watch on my 50" TV, without being distracted by jaggies, dinosaurs, or the color blue. Thank you Harmy.

Most of the de-specializations were perfect (like the detention block, sandtroopers, cantina). But in some places the GOUT upscale is the best source to work with (mostly the dogfight scenes at the end of the movie). Thanks to Harmy and those who contributed, I don't think this movie could get any better without a new source of the theatrical version. And, of course, Hariy Hen's great 5.1 mix is a treat.

I'm also humbled to be included after the credits, along with greats like Adywan and Dark Jedi. I am not worthy :) . But my oldest son did get a big kick out of seeing my name on TV!

Mr. Lucas, the bar has been raised.

This show is outstanding. The characters are interesting, the actors are great, and the production values are equivalent to a big-budget movie.

My favorite character is the imp. He's hard to pin down, so you don't know if he's a good guy in a bad spot, or just a sneaky bastard.

My wife likes the show so much that she started reading the books. So far she hasn't spoiled anything for me.

I just found out that there are only 10 episodes in this season. So I has a sad.
