Let the encoding begin! :D
Let the encoding begin! :D
It's gonna be really hard for me to spot, since my laptop wants to play the entire workprint very dim. I had to increase the gamma in order to see things, which may bring out things that normally aren't visible.
Zombie probably just forgot to renew the domain. He may have already taken care of it. Sometimes it takes a few days to come back.
Dear sirs,
With moist hands I was looking forward to owning every moment. However, I have noticed that several moments seem to have gone missing. Please refund my payment post haste.
Harmy, the new DS explosion is really nice. How did you do that?
What is that supposed to be?
Awesome covers, Harmy!
I noticed a few misspellings in this part:
"Just sit back and enjoy the ride uninterrupted by unnecessary additions to these classic movies."
The rest of the text looked good without any misspellings, but some of the sentences were a bit long. I hope you don't mind my recommendations below to shorten then up.
For SW, I recommend this:
"Join Luke Skywalker, Ben Kenobi, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the two unforgettable droids RD-D2 and C-3PO in this first exciting chapter of the Star Wars Trilogy. Follow our heroes as they race to rescue the beautiful Princess Leia from the evil clutches of Darth Vader and destroy the Galactic Empire's dreaded weapon, the Death Star."
For ESB, I recommend using the following:
"Return to the galaxy far, far away in this exciting new chapter in the Star Wars Trilogy. Rejoin Luke Skywalker on his path to becoming a Jedi Knight, as he travels to the far reaches of space in search of the mighty Jedi Master Yoda."
Here's ROTJ:
"Jump through hyperspace into the final chapter of the Star Wars Trilogy. After first rescuing his friends from the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt, Luke Skywalker must face his destiny to restore freedom to the galaxy in a final epic battle of heroes and villains."

1:41:26 - some kind of encoding/compression glitch on the bottom of the AT-ST as it blows up. Is this the secret glitch?
I don't see anything there, could you maybe post a screenshot? (And no, it's not the secret glitch ;-) )
Here's a screenshot. The glitch thing goes on for several frames. The explosion is very blocky.
Here's the second and final part of my review:
1:29:37, 1:29:40 - moving garbage matte around Death Star
1:41:26 - some kind of encoding/compression glitch on the bottom of the AT-ST as it blows up. Is this the secret glitch?
1:43:43 - this shot of the emperor looks too bright compared to GOUT
1:52:58 - visible garbage mattes on TIE fighters
1:56:25 - Wedge looks like his contrast has been jacked way up - muddled blacks, blown out whites, and excessive grain. The other shots in the reactor core look like they suffer from this slightly.
2:01:09 - GOUT cuts to shot of ghosts, but DeEd stays on Luke and Leia and repeats a few frames. DeEd then cuts to ghosts about a half second late, then cuts to the final hero shot a half second late. This is probably to work around the trimmed shots in the SE, but the repeated frames of Luke and Leia at 2:01:09 should probably be removed in some way. Can you slow down the ghost shot?
2:01:22 - the credits for the GOUT change about half a second before the DeEd. This runs to the end of the credits. Judder on credits is also quite noticable. Is this from DJ's Project Blu?

Let's get back on topic on the blu-ray box set which deleted scenes are you most looking forward to the most? For me it's Luke putting together his lightsaber from ROTJ and the wampa attack from ESB as well as the endor bunker scene from ROTJ as well as any of the deleted scenes from A New Hope and the prequel films.
Thanks for getting us back on topic lets see. I guess Im only loking forward to just a little bit on the disc like all 6 movies and the deleted scenes from the prequel films as well as A New Hope The Empire Strikes Back and especially Return of the Jedi. I cant wait to this complete blu-ray set comes out on its release day September 16, 2011 with DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1. Nah just kidding theirs really not much I'm looking forward too.
Nice new clip, Harmy. I see you've managed to make the Falcon's flight under Yavin even better. Thanks!
Here's part 1 of my review. I've made it about an hour into the workprint so far.
Overall, things are looking very good! I did notice that the GOUT seems to be more blue than your DeEd. Was that intentional?
8:44, 8:55, 9:03, 9:11, 9:19 - Luke's hologram in GOUT seems more blue (8:39 and
9:22 seem to match). Not a big deal for me, but I know some people seem to take the holograms very seriously.
13:57 - 14:00 - This is hard to explain. The smoke hiding the GOUT Jabba seems to drop in increments - almost a strobe-like effect. It happens about once a second, getting less transparent each time. Then at 14:00, it seems to fade out too quickly. I would suggest a more gradual fade if possible. (I realize only so much is possible with this).
27:45 - Jabba says something but there's no subtitle. Is GOUT like this?
48:04 - The background behind General Madine is very bright. It's hard to make out the lights in the wall, as opposed to GOUT, which has more defined lights.
50:47 - The circular control panels look like they need to be more blue.
55:52 (approx) - I know in the speederbike chase, a bad matte line on the right side of the screen was fixed? But I don't know the exact frame. Did you restore the bad matte?

Have started checking out the versions which used one of the above to see how their recompression affects the Humdinger.
In the Wookiegroomer X360 and Ewokgroomer versions, the Humdinger disappears.
Is it know for a fact that recompression caused the humdinger to disappear? Is there any possibility that the Wookiegroomer release was based on a different master?
I've heard the hamburger story in the context of the redesign: They needed a idea for the redesign, and George was holding a hamburger with a bite missing. So he said, "how about this, with an olive as the cockpit?"
I can check it out.

The clips could have been cleaned and patched up and presented with the raw uncleaned material to show off how good the restoration process was...oh hum.
That would take too much effort. Let's just fabricate a replica of the Rebel briefing room to showcase 3 minutes of our new Blu-Ray.
That looks a little more subtle that the first try with the smoke. Not bad. BTW, the smoke is a clever solution.
My vote goes for the GOUT insert without the smoke. Can you downscale the rest of the image so the difference is not as noticeable? Similar to how you fixed the Tatooine driveby scene in Star Wars?

BTW. I hate you guys for making me do this ;-)
We love you too ;)
DJ, I'm sure Harmy meant no disrespect to you. The turd is the GOUT source you used, not your overall project. You would agree that the upscaled scene is not as sharp as native 1080p, right?
EDIT: Ah, I see Harmy beat me to this.
Star Wars (aka A New Hope) serves as the perfect introduction to the saga. It tells us what the Force is, and what Jedi are.
When ANH isn't first, the exposition on Tatooine can seem redundant to anyone who's already seen the PT. Especially coming after the galaxy-spanning action in ROTS, ANH seems to take an unnecessary detour. It slows down the larger story.
With the exception of Palpatine's identity, all of the jokes, references, and reveals of the saga only work if you see the OT first.
As we can see with Darth Bizarro's sister, when you watch the PT first, Vader ceases to be the badass villain in the OT. Instead he becomes "emo Ani", the pitiable burn victim who was tricked into the turning to the Dark Side.
Harmy,
There's one instance of jaggies that I noticed. It occurs at 1:42:30.
The jaggies occur in the wing as the fighter rotates slightly. Do you think you can reduce this by manually rotating a static image? The lighting might make that impossible though.
Those aren't actual quotes, are they?
I think I have a DIVX rip of the ROTS theatrical release that Zion's and Adywan's versions are based on. If it's useful for anyone.

Harmy, I know you toned down the overly-blue color on R2 as much as possible, but I think there's one that you missed. I don't have my disc with me right now, but I think it's around 8:40 or 8:50. It's the shot where, as the droids walk away from the pod, and R2's head comes up over a dune in the foreground.
You seem to have corrected the blue when the camera comes back to this angle a moment later. Can you give this shot the same treatment?
I just checked my disc. This issue with the blue R2 occurs at 9:13 to 9:24.
