The Mandalorian - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *
Time

[Removed my own post]

I can’t bother the same
old positive/negative discussion points. We’re going in circles.

It is probably for the best.

Because when going round in circles there is the danger of the unfortunate possibility where you type something that comes off as mocking and insulting to anyone on here who may think differently than you, or even to people who may agree with you.

Or invent some mistaken situation where you go and claim “strongly-worded feelings and opinions” are not welcome on here, ignoring where people have already reasonably posted about your previous words on this:

“It’s fine to constructively criticize Disney’s stuff in hopes that they’ll do better, but this just reads like you think everyone at Disney is an evil hack fraud who hates your childhood and deserves to be unemployed. They grew up with this stuff, just like you did. It’s just that some of them are making crappy choices, and that’s certainly no reason to want Kathleen Kennedy burned at the stake”.

Or that you may not want to just talk about the Mandalorian. You may want to vent at Lucasfilm or Disney, or the state of Star Wars in general. Which this thread probably isn’t the right thread for?

To me it appears you want to now vent at, or look to pick a fight with, others who have different opinions, by mocking them, but I hope I am wrong because you are better than that. I guess we will all see.

Return Of The Jedi - a 'Behind The Scenes / Making Of' images thread
Time

That awesome The Spachshipper twitter account recently posted these images of the Death Star II:

ILM even retweeted the images, in their “ROTJ at 40” thread, where ILM stated Return Of The Jedi was “George Lucas’ picture”:

Beautiful and stunning model of the Death Star II!

An article on the crowd reaction in the movie theater watching the end of Return Of The Jedi back in 1983:

Star Wars fans scream for Darth Vader twist in 1983 reaction video” at the Digital Fix

The video:

Darth Vader’s Redemption - Cinema Reaction (1983)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhHn6oD-B7M : a 2 minute video at Clavis YouTube channel.

I found it interesting to see, but if I were in the movie theater I would have gone back to a later viewing to try and watch the ending in more quiet surroundings!

Sorry to say but that’s 100% fake. The crowd noises are memes and clips from other movies. I’m a bit stunned that a site that seems to take itself as seriously as that one appears to fell for it.

I had heard about a faked “theater reaction” video, but I didn’t realize that was the one! Ooof! 😃

Are you glad Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney or do you wish he hadn’t?

I wish he’d made the sequels so that all this current hubbub was consistent instead of being full of retroactive appreciation.

Seeing a great number of Prequel fans having “The Chosen One” or “The Prophecy” be retconned to now being Leia, and not Anakin, would be something to see too!

I am surprised there isn’t an AI/ChatGPT version of George’s Sequel Trilogy already out there.

Continuity Error With Obi-Wan Within the ST

I hope you understand a little more why it irked me. But in the end it does not matter, it is just something that stood out in the documentary, giving an indication (to me) this was a more a Prequel story: in tone, style, execution, and also overall underwhelming quality: than an actual bridge, or genuine half way point story between the two trilogies.

I do, thank you for clearing that up. It’s refreshing to have actual conversations about these things, rather than it dissolving into just aggressive name calling etc. as seems to be the norm on some platforms.

I understand where you’re coming from. Though with the exception of some of the characters (i.e. Obi Wan and Bail Organa) I thought it bridged the setting quite well. There were “prequelly tones/settings” but the inclusion of Storm Troopers pulled it a litte bit into the OT territory. But again, that is just my viewing of it.

I agree, and it is why I like this platform more than many others: there is more respect and actual conversation on here, even from people different outlooks and opinions. Thankfully there is not too much “agenda spreading” on here like on many other websites, reddits and YouTubes. And thank you for explaining your view as well.

About Bond: My preferred Bnnd is Connery, followed by Brosnan (more the early films than later), and I wish Dalton had been given more films to do, to see where he would have taken the character. But they are all good, even Lazenby, in an underrated film too. Bu that may be better suited for another thread. lol

It did irk me when director Deborah Chow said this about Ewan - “He to me, is Obi Wan”, in the “Obi Wan Kenobi: a Jedi’s Return” documentary, with an emphasis on “is”.

I don’t know why it should irk you, it’s her opinion, quite clearly she says “He to me”… meaning, in her opinion. That doesn’t mean it’s right or it’s wrong. She’s entitled to feel like that. To a certain generation, yes Ewan McGregor is their Obi Wan.

Of course, as a fan in the correct context there is nothing wrong with that. In a documentary for a series where efforts are made to tell us this is a bridge between the Prequels and Originals, and therefore Ewan and Alec, and as we are 10 years between the 2 trilogies, and it coming from the actual director, it irked me.

As I also said in my post: It also didn’t help that the Kenobi series felt more like a Prequel style series than a bridge between the Prequel Trilogy and the Original Trilogy, and that it was meant to take place half way between the two trilogies in the time line, but it just didn’t feel like that, to me.

In the same respect that everyone has their favourite Bond. There’s no right or wrong answer to it as it’s all subjective.

No, I disagree. We’re not bridging Bonds in this situation, like we are told they are doing, or trying to do, with the Kenobi series. But that’s okay we disagree, everyone has different opinions.

There still isn’t much in the way of new content. Even the 3 “new interviews”

Yes, there still isn’t very much new content on there at all. One other new article:

But only that, that I can find.

I watched Despecialized 2.5 on the actual anniversary, and had a blast.

That is great. I watched 4K83 on the anniversary and it was great to see. Fan-made preservation content over the official releases all the way!

…Some *sshat in a Star Wars group on facebook kept deflecting to every technicality he could possibly grasp at…

This was your first mistake…people on those platforms are the worst. Not to say good people can’t be found there, but FB, Twitter, YouTube (shudders)…it’s just poison.

It was publicly stated years back by RAH that multiple Technicolor dye prints of each film exist in private collections, etc. That for me is adequate, as there’s plenty of classics on film who’s OCN was lost or destroyed long ago, and beautiful presentations now exist for consumption.

Just don’t engage with the worst the Internet has to offer.

100% this. Some people on the internet, many who seem to be hardcore George fans (zealots is probably a better description I see used by some to describe them), spread their bullshit bad faith arguments on why the unaltered theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy cannot or should not be preserved or released:

I’ll never understand the attitude of people who oppose the release of the unaltered Original Trilogy

The 'Naysayer Guide’ by people who DON’T want an unaltered theatrical release of the Original Trilogy

A topic that might upset the entire forum; (I’m sorry) (history rewritten via believing Nerdonymous & Anomaly Inc. YouTube videos)

Random OT Details Thread
Time

Was the old thread one of these?:

Small details that took you FOREVER to notice in the Star Wars films

Hidden items in OT and other SW

The Original Trilogy - a general Random Thoughts thread

or was it another thread? I love these type of threads: there is always something new to learn, or something long forgotten.

EC Henry’s YouTube channel is so cool and underrated. His love for the OT really comes across so well, and the background stories he comes up with for some of the ships is like something that could be straight from the old Sourcebooks, better EU stories, and older video games.

I really like his “X-Wing Ejection: It all makes sense now” video for his insights and thoughts on that old “Eject!” line from the Death Star battle in Star Wars '77 (RIP Porkins!)
