Disney Star Wars is just a Bad Karma for George Lucas
Time

I think I agree with nearly all you said, Minch. But I think it would be much easier to read and comprehend if there were some line breaks or paragraphs in your post. 😃

Maybe try to find what you do enjoy in Star Wars too. The OT will be forever and the preservation projects on here and “sister sites” ensure this.

Caston’s post and my post in The 2008 Clone Wars messes up continuity thread may have highlighted some of the many issues with Lucasfilm bullshit claims and rules on canon, and George/Filoni’s retconning and re-writing of other creatives’ material for their own projects.

So yes, Lucas sucks since the mid 1990’s, and Filoni since TCW. But there is still much quality to enjoy in Star Wars:

Andor is truly great, in levels of quality across all aspects not seen in Star Wars for many ears. Visions is fun and cool too, in a different way: short stories that many of have dreamed of when we were younger finally being told, and more episodes to come. 2003 Clone Wars is a fun and mad watch for many too: before the Dark Times, before the Retcons! This season of Bad Batch has improved dramatically with its storytelling and weight, and has surpassed 2008 Clone Wars and Rebels, for me. And I look forward to that final season.

The Acolyte series looks it may be something more like Andor too in quality. Mangold’s Dawn Of The Jedi film will probably be as well, and going on his past work, it’ll be a Star Wars film with an epic feel to it once again, I hope!

Even High Republic novels and comics remain free of Filoni retcons and Kennedy firing directors (writers for this) so far! lol

And the coming Skeleton Crew series will also be free of Filoni too. Amblin type adventures in the GFFA? I’ll give that a fair go!

Both satisfying watch and reads, thanks Emre.

The https://twitter.com/newsandor fan account you recommended is a really useful resource for anything Andor related too.

I can’t see it anymore. I’m not actually on Twitter, I just bookmark some accounts I liked. Twitter’s recent changes to the settings means only people with accounts can see tweets, accounts or information.

I hope that changes soon, another platform takes Twitter’s place, or AndorNews and others find another new home.

The Boba Fett movie
Time

Axed Boba Fett Movie Was a ‘Borderline R-Rated’ Spaghetti Western That ‘Probably Scared the S— Out of Everyone,’ Says James Mangold - at Variety

https://variety.com/2023/film/news/boba-fett-movie-r-rated-canceled-solo-box-office-1235658248

'James Mangold is moving on to direct a “Star Wars” tentpole following “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” but it’s not his first go-around with the Lucasfilm franchise. Back in 2018, news broke that Mangold had been hired to direct a movie about the bounty hunter Boba Fett. He was also set to co-write the project with Simon Kinberg, best known as a writer and producer on the “X-Men” movies.

Mangold’s Boba Fett movie never got off the ground, and he recently said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that it wasn’t too surprising given the overall tone of the project.

“At the point I was doing it I was probably scaring the shit out of everyone,” Mangold said. “I was making much more of a borderline R-rated, single planet spaghetti Western. They probably would never be able to embrace Baby Yoda if I had made that. It didn’t really belong in the world I was kind of envisioning.”’

more information, quotes, and a short 1 minute video with Mangold himself, can be found in the linked article above

It Sounds like it would have been a cool film. I really hope his “Dawn of the Jedi” film works out.

The Clone Wars messes up continuity or how Lucas is still destroying star wars.

Spartacus01 said:

The thing is, most of the contradictions between TCW and the Multimedia Project are not even Filoni’s fault, but Lucas’ fault. TCW was Lucas’ pet project, he had complete creative control over it, and decided whatever something was good enough as to be shown in the series, or not. He decided everything, so he’s the only responsible for the contradictions between TCW and the EU.

I don’t think anyone is disputing that George was in overall charge of The Clone Wars (the early seasons), or that most of the early contradictions in it likely came from George, or that it is likely that more came from George, than did from Filoni. But it does appear George did not have “complete creative control” or that “He decided everything”, and so on.

George actually wanted to kill Ahsoka off, Filoni didn’t, and so Ahsoka lived. That is quite a big creative control decision:

and other similar articles like this:

Filoni Says George Lucas is ‘”Full-On ‘Ahsoka Dies’ Camp’” at Inside The Magic

But I do respect your viewpoint, and I can see where you are coming from in the rest of your interesting post.

Lucasfilm’s retconned claims on canon debunked - by the project creators

+ Lucasfilm’s own previous statements, PR releases and articles, as well as quotes from George Lucas and other EU creatives.

On the subject of Dave Filoni, he is wrong when he claims, and repeats this incorrect assertion:

“Having worked with George, I can tell you that it was always very clear, and he made it very clear, that the films and the TV show were the only things he considered canon. That was it.”

^ https://youtu.be/hcNXPNXOv2A?t=2460 - 2016 Dave Filoni interview on The Star Wars Show Youtube Channel (at 41 minutes)

or similar Lucasfilm claims before Disney’s buyout in 2012, that ‘only the six films and The Clone Wars series are canon’, or even a couple of years after the purchase of Lucasfilm in the 2014 official “Legends & Canon” announcement, on StarWars.com

Lucasfilm’s own ‘Canon Tier’ ratings (prior to the canon reconstruction in April 2014):-

‘Regarding the Holocron database in 2012, Chee said: “What sets Star Wars apart from other franchises is that we develop a singular continuity across all forms of media, whether it be the films, TV series, video games, novels and comics, and the Holocron is a key component to Lucasfilm being able to do this.” The Holocron was divided into five levels of canon (in order of precedence)’.

^ Holocron database and canonicity - at Wikipedia

A Brief History Of Star Wars Canon, Old And New - 2015 article at Gizmodo

Some examples that contradict Dave Filoni’s claim above, and also other similar incorrect assertions from Lucasfilm:

‘The new game, known by many simply as The Force Unleashed, is the first Star Wars game to be considered by Lucas an actual chapter in the overall story line…’ - CNet article link from 2009

and

Long time Star Wars author Michael A Stackpole, of the ‘X-Wing’ & ‘New Jedi Order’ novels (among others), said this in 2020:

Long time Star Wars author Mathew Stover, of the ‘Episode III: ROTS’ & ‘Shatterpoint’ novels (among others), said this in 2021:

Star Wars Revenge of the Sith Author, Matthew Stover LIVE’ - at 19 minutes into the Beyond The Blast Doors YouTube video:

“I had a long talk with Mr Lucas out at Skywalker Ranch about Revenge of the Sith. And I asked him a lot of questions, we spent a lot of time about Jedi, and you know, how he wanted the book to feel, and stuff like that. And in those days there’s none of this kind of ‘Canon Wars’ that came about later on. It was all canon. Everything published was canon.

Matthew Stover’s work in Star Wars: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Matthew_Stover

And it was George himself who suggested doing the novels (New Jedi Order) as the Sequel Trilogy to his then 6 film Saga:

George Lucas in a 1999 interview with Wired:

George also contributed to the New Jedi Order novels himself, despite later claiming in a 2008 interview with TotalFilm:

“And now there have been novels about the events after Episode VI, which isn’t at all what I would have done it.”

^ despite Lucas actually suggesting & okaying ‘novels as the Sequels’, and then also contributing to the New Jedi Order project.

This link to an informative article by xezene on the Reddit/StarWarsEU, with quotes and citations, highlights George Lucas’ significant input and involvement in the ‘New Jedi Order’ EU project:

And also Lucasfilm’s recent baffling attempts to try and downplay or even deny George’s input and contributions in the EU. This despite numerous EU creatives stating they conferred with George on their projects. Some EU creatives sending their work to be ‘okayed’ by Lucas before going to print. At other times talking over ideas, stories, plotlines, characters, drawings etc, and also receiving feedback from George:

Caston said:

It is pleasing to see Tom Veitch getting some recognition, and “nods” to his work also featured in modern Star Wars.

His and Kevin Anderson’s work for Tales of the Jedi really gave us all the engaging backstory for much of the Sith and that beguiling early Star Wars era history.

I hadn’t realised that they had such a free reign with the project, and had feedback from George on it.

Yet they and the illustrators, had to send off their work to be ‘okayed’ by George, before going to print:

Personally, I think fuck their made up and changing “official canon” claims/rules. Whatever you want it to be, that’s your canon.

If you love or bought the books, novels, comics, toys, and merchandise from any and all the multimedia projects and EU or whatever, then that is your canon if you want. It doesn’t matter what George, Filoni or Lucasfilm says; they are trying to retcon more Star Wars history, and can’t even manage to keep their own later invented rules, stories, and incorrect claims, straight.

In addition to the informative article by xezene on the Reddit/StarWarsEU, with quotes and citations, highlighting George Lucas’ significant input and involvement in the ‘New Jedi Order’ EU project:

xezene has also compiled an Index for some infographs and posts on George Lucas’ involvement in other EU projects:

https://www.reddit.com/user/xezene/comments/126sm45/collected_star_wars_expanded_universe_posts

So far, there is:

George Lucas and Tales of the Jedi

George Lucas and the Thrawn Trilogy

George Lucas and the Jedi Academy Trilogy

George Lucas and The Illustrated Star Wars Universe

George Lucas and the Bantam era

George Lucas and the Bantam era (Part II)

George Lucas and Shadows of the Empire

George Lucas and the Hand of Thrawn Duology

George Lucas and the New Jedi Order

I find it interesting that Lucas/Lucasfilm allowed Tom Veitch and Kevin J. Anderson to develop the Sith so much before Episode I was released (see xezene’s post; their free reign on the project, and even had feedback from George, before going to print)

There are also many other similar themed infographs & posts in the above linked Index by xezene - on numerous EU projects.

<strong>Ahsoka</strong> (live action series) - general discussion thread
Time

Is Ahsoka considered to be a Jedi now?

I know of the famous “I am no Jedi!” dialogue, but with the new Ahsoka series trailer having the text of “Warrior, Outcast, Rebel, Jedi” in it to describe Ahsoka, and The Mandalorian S2x05 episode having the title: “The Jedi” (about Ahsoka), has this now changed?

Are we meant to think of Ahsoka now being a Jedi once again?

Screenshots of the “Jedi” tagline used on the official Star Wars YouTube & Twitter sites to describe Ahsoka for the series

Edit: Star Wars: Why Ahsoka Is a Jedi Again, Explained - article at MoiveWeb

^ Dave Filoni: “Fans all focus very hard on the line, “I am no Jedi,” from Star Wars: Rebels, but it’s undeniable that she’s trained by the Jedi. I think to most observers she is very Jedi to them. I would argue in some ways—by being so selfless and rejecting a lot of paths that would have given her power — she’s more Jedi-like than even some characters who claim to be Jedi.”

Is Ahsoka Tano a Jedi or Not? Ashley Eckstein Answers - article at Inside The Magic. (Ashley’s answer to the question is “yes”).

In this official Ahsoka trailer, actress Rosario Dawson explains ‘all things Ahsoka in 30 seconds’, and describes the character of Ahsoka as being a “Jedi”:

https://twitter.com/ahsokaofficial/status/1690068060940517376

In this official Ahsoka trailer titled “Master and Apprentices”, it is inferred Ahsoka had previously been training Sabine (as a Jedi; in a master/pupil relationship, with Yoda voiceover referencing other Jedi master/pupils):

www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTqPkjk0GLU

And as others have said: Ahsoka still acts like a Jedi, lives the moral code of a Jedi, fights like a Jedi, chose to use “the weapon of a Jedi Knight”, and also chose to construct those white lightsabers herself, long after her decision to leave the Jedi Order.

Her voice is also heard in the future ‘The Rise Of Skywalker’, along with many other Jedi spirits, calling to, and supporting Rey.

^ The Kings of baffling retcons in Star Wars. Often it is simply unnecessary alterations or re-writes of other creatives’ work in the GFFA.

[snip]

Lists of retcons made in 2008 The Clone Wars, and writing over of Karen Traviss’ previously established work in the EU.

[snip]

I then thought about some of the other retcons and alterations that Dave Filoni has made in his Star Wars projects to other creatives’ previous work in the GFFA… and I ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole on this! I’ve edited in more articles and information below on just some of his retcons to… the EU, in both Legends and Canon, the Prequel Trilogy, 2003 Clone Wars, Rebels, The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, Tales of the Jedi, and also for the Ahsoka series.

[snip]

Yes, that is an awesome job compiling & highlighting those retcons & changes by Filoni to others’ previous work in Star Wars.

And more impressive that the links are to fair and balanced articles in the main, and not people just looking to hate on Filoni.

I agree with you Caston on the call for the original creatives to be credited when their work in used or mentioned in other later content, whether that work is retconned or not. Putting up a ‘references list’ in the actual episode credits, or in articles and episode guides on the official website would be seem to be a simple and effective way to do that.

Great post!

This looks very good. But I’m done with games that are just a big open space filled with fetch quests. Hope to be proven wrong but otherwise done after the likes of Horizon and Tsushima burned me out on the genre. Then again I could be lured in when it actually gets here…

I get that. I’m also hoping for some specific space combat levels or locations, somewhere you can go to just blast some TIEs, or maybe even some X-Wings! Probably a few levels or locations where there is some intense yet mindless blasting away of many stormtroopers or Greedo types too.

Yeah, this certainly caught my eye and has me looking forward to seeing more of the game. Jedi Survivor looked great and all, but this open world game is one I’ve been looking forward to since they first announced it, and hoping that it wouldn’t be cancelled or end up in limbo.

Looks pretty good going on just those first couple of videos too.

High Republic setting general discussion

Caston said:

I am a little surprised there hasn’t been more on-screen content for the High Republic, be it some episodes in ‘Visions’ or in ‘Tales Of The Jedi’, or as other have suggested on here, its own ‘Galaxy of Adventures’ style animated series?

So far, it is ‘The Acolyte’ series, and ‘Eclipse’ game, both still to be released. And the ‘Young Jedi Adventures’ animated series for younger children. Which is a bit lacking overall, for promoting awareness and interest for such a promising and vast publishing project.

I think many fans are surprised there hasn’t been more content, considering the content we got for other similar projects like Shadows of the Empire, Clone Wars (2002-07), and The Force Unleashed. And this does seem a larger project than those previous EU “multimedia” releases.

I sometimes read on here that some people think modern Lucasfilm do “the bare minimum” with their releases, when compared to older Lucasfilm from up to mid to late 1990’s, and then noticeably less QA and effort in their releases, probably the last quality project being the TFU EU release, (2007-10)? Maybe there is something to that? Or a budget thing or organisational thing?

Anyway, what is probably important for the core readers for The High Republic is the quality of the reading material, and it appears to have been well liked and received so far by many fans (outside the usual “everything in Star Wars is ruined and it is KK’s fault” toxic fan groups).

Mark Hamill Skywalks Away from Star Wars: “They Don’t Need Luke Anymore” at Consequence website

“I just don’t see any reason to [bring Luke Skywalker back]”

“I had my time, and that’s good, but that’s enough,” Hamill said. “Never say never, but I just don’t see any reason to [bring Luke Skywalker back] — let me put it that way. I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore.”

The actor — who still lives in the Malibu home he purchased with the cash he raked in right after A New Hope — seems pretty indifferent on the fact that he’ll always be known as Luke Skywalker. He’s just happy to have made his living acting, regardless of whether he did so a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

“The truth of the matter is I never really expected to be remembered for anything,” he added. “I just wanted to make a living doing what I liked. And I thought, ‘it could be worse.’ I could be, like, known as beings the best actor who ever played Adolf Hitler, you know? At least Luke is an admirable fellow.”
