Celebration 2023 in London. April 7-10.
Time

Those panels are a bit lacking. Though everyone seems to have a good time at Celebration from the photos and social media posts that get posted up, even if the panels are a bit meh. It is cool to see so many girls dressed up as Rey or their other heroes, I read somewhere at the last Celebration there were more fans dressed up as Rey than there were stromtroopers and Imperials.

The gust list for this is strong, but not surprising seeing the money being charged for simple signatures or extra “6 word inscription messages”. From https://twitter.com/jamieswb/status/1620483743730507778? :

“Notice how they didn’t include the scaling admin fees for each item and the optional £44.99, 6 word inscription in those costs”. From https://twitter.com/Supernovaa30/status/1620485215587287040 :

If you wanted a 6 word message it is an extra £45. So, £227 for a 6 word message and autograph.

£100 = 112 euros = $119 USA = $180 Aus !!! Wow!

I am very happy I do not collect autographs, but those prices suck for fans that do.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (theatrical film for 2023) - a general discussion thread
Time

What a disappointment. Variety have a good track record, but I hope they are wrong about Rogue Squadron being shelved.

https://variety.com/2023/film/news/star-wars-kevin-feige-patty-jenkins-movies-shelved-1235545774/

Lucasfilm announce a Star Wars: Top Gun type Rogue Squadron film through a teaser with the film’s director in 2020.

Top Gun 2 is actually released and does very well at the box office and also with fans in 2022.

Lucasfilm then decides it doesn’t want to do the Top Gun type Rogue Squadron film anymore in 2023.

What the hell?

The Mandalorian - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *
Time

Season 3’s opener today just left me empty, I’ll have to watch it again as it felt lacking and predictable, so it was probably just me. I was looking forward to this new season, I was not expecting Andor level quality, but still expecting better than that. May it is because this was the "set up " episode for the rest of the season? I hope so.

The IG-11 thing? “Somehow Palpatine IG-11 returned”. It just seemed weird and unnecessary, cheapening the sacrifice made in season 1, and the unfortunate familiar Star Wars trope of bringing back far too many dead characters back to life. Maybe there will be some effective payoff for that later?

Edit: I found it odd they didn’t reference why Grogu is now back with Mando after the end of Mandalorian S2. The events which took place in the 2 episodes of The Book Of Boba Fett. For anyone who hasn’t seen the BOBF series this season opener must have been quite a strange “WTH?” experience. It wasn’t featured in the opening “recap” segment, was it?

 9. The Clone Wars - 2008
 10. Book of Boba Fett
 11. Droids
 12. Resistance
 13. Ewoks

I may split the Mandalorian into seasons in the future. Season 1 was so very good, refreshing and welcome. Season 2 was good, but it left me cold with too much fan service, cameos, and overall lack of quality. Season 3’s opener today left me empty, I’ll have to watch it again as it felt so lacking and predictable, so it was probably just me.

A live orchestra performance for some original music inspired on the Heir To The Empire trilogy novels, after the main Star Wars theme has played, of course!

Heir to the Empire Trilogy. A General Discussion
Time

I’ve been watching the “Episode IX: Duel Of The Fates” fan made comics and animated films lately, and I’ve really enjoyed them. So I am now giving Crimson Empire and Zahn’s original Thrawn trilogy a watch too. If anyone else is interested in these:

The Thrawn Trilogy: Motion Comic | nathan S

"It’s five years after the Rebel Alliance destroyed the Death Star, defeated Darth Vader and the Emperor, and drove the remnants of the old Imperial Starfleet to a distant corner of the galaxy. Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting Jedi twins. And Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited line of Jedi Knights.

But thousands of light-years away, the last of the Emperor’s warlords, Grand Admiral Thrawn, has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic. For this dark warrior has made two vital discoveries that could destroy everything the courageous men and women of the Rebel Alliance fought so hard to build."

Nathan S also has a Star Wars animated comic website with more EU content available, that is not on YouTube (for free): https://nlstrong.wixsite.com/starwarsmotioncomic

The other Heir To Empire fan-made adaptation on here looks really promising too:

Hello guys,

I dunno if you already saw it on YouTube (I didn’t see any thread here dedicated to it), but there’s a guy that has been doing for one year now an animated CGI movie adaptation of the Heir to the Empire.

Crimson Empire
Time

I’ve been watching the “Episode IX: Duel Of The Fates” fan made comics and animated films lately, and I’ve really enjoyed them. So it is now time for Crimson Empire and some of the other 1990’s EU releases. If anyone else is interested in these:

Star Wars Crimson Empire Motion Comic (Full Movie) | nathan S

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-cTtaGPcTI | 93 minutes

“In all the Empire, there are no more fearsome warriors than the Emperor’s Imperial Guard, and none is more loyal than Kir Kanos. But when Carnor Jax—the most formidable of this elite brotherhood—betrays the Emperor and orders the murder of the Guard, Kir must escape to carry out his duty to avenge his master. Devoted to the last, Kir must nonetheless ally himself with Rebel forces to help him attain his retribution in the face of the Empire’s full might brought down to destroy him. For Kir Kanos, the last royal Imperial Guard and the final threat to Jax’s rise to power, there are no alternatives—loyalty never dies.”

For me in my own head-cannon, Crimson Empire (11-13 ABY) was the finale of a “Trilogy of Sequel Trilogy” stories, following on from Zahn’s Heir To The Empire trilogy (9 ABY), and Veitchs’ Dark Empire trilogy (10-11 ABY). I enjoyed the New Jedi Order and X-Wing series, but didn’t really read much else from the EU as the other releases just didn’t hold my interest as much as these “Trilogy of Sequel Trilogy” stories did.

Jon Favreau confirms that the scripts for the Disney+ Star Wars show’s fourth season are already finished:

It is good to know there has been some long term planning for the series, and how it overlaps with the other series in this era.

Return Of The Jedi's 40th anniversary
Time

The official Disney Fan Club says there will be a screening of Return Of The Jedi at Star Wars Celebration:

https://d23.com/the-magic-goes-global-with-d23-events-coming-to-europe-this-april/03_magic-goes-global_022023_1180w-600h/

It will probably be the 2019 Maclunkey version that is shown. Which is weird as hell given it is meant be for the 40th anniversary of ROTJ, and not its 4th anniversary.

Should Disney Release a Special Edition Prequel Trilogy?
Time

Emre1601 said:

I see this claim quite a lot on reddit and YouTube video comment sections too, but never with a source for it, or any relevant quotes on it from the high ups at Lucasfilm on the subject. Hate to be “that guy”, but do you have a source for that?

First of all, I refuse to believe they wouldn’t have done it by now if they could. Especially since, until after TLJ, Lucasfilm’s agenda under Disney was to appease the people who thought Lucas fucked up Star Wars with the special editions and the Prequels. No Prequel content, TFA being an OT fan-service palooza, cancelling The Clone Wars and replacing it with Rebels, the huge focus on the era between ANH and ESB in comic runs and novels, etc. Even now in the age of Prequel apologetics, they still do things to reference the original versions of the films (the original Krait Dragon call being used in The Mandalorian Season 2).

I highly doubt that with JJ Abrams, Jon Favreu and Dave Filoni clearly favoring the original versions, they would’ve released them by now if there wasn’t something from stopping them.

Second, we know JJ Abrams asked and was told it wasn’t possible.

So that’s a ‘no’ on the source for your claim that:

G&G-Fan said:

Unfortunately they are contractually not allowed to touch George’s films.

I mean, your belief is cool and all. Some of it may be likely. But it is still just your belief.

The search for an actual source continues!

Yeah, it would be good to have all the theatrical releases available, the versions we saw on the big screen.
