Info: Films re-released with alterations

I can’t believe I forgot about this! 😄

All home video versions of The Fugitive from the 2001 DVD onwards have been altered to digitally remove a crew member who was visible (in a ghost like image, apparently) during the train crash scene.

The first printing of the Bluray (the one with MPEG-2 encoding) does not have the change. The later VC-1 pressing does. (The change is also done really sloppily.)

Alien Trilogy: Custom Cuts - Do-It-Yourself Guide
Time

Sweet! I was just considering trying to mux a version of Aliens without the colony scenes and you did all the work for me. The TV cut of Aliens sounds like just what I need.
Playing with the seamless branching files is really fun. I once used my HDDVD of Blade Runner to create a lossless version of the 1990s director’s cut which also included the international cut’s violence.

Edit: Also Aliens begins with 01106.m2ts rather than 00750 (the pdf is correct, but your post accidentally uses the Alien 3 guide.)

The Keep - UK HDTV airing (Released)
Time

This is the master that’s been used on Netflix and on TV airings for awhile now. It is smeary as hell. (Amongst a myriad of other problems.) I would also guess it’s sourced from an old laserdisc master. There’s a logo free version from an Australian channel that’s on Myspleen (Chewtobacca fixed up the frame rate).

I would love a new transfer of this film. It looks ludicrously awful in its current state.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Where did you get the image for the original version, because that isn’t the blu-ray and it’s overcropped? Not sure why the Revisited image looks so blurry too (unless its facebooks compression playing havoc with the image. I’ve replaced the one from facebook here with a less compressed version)

Here is a proper comparison between the official blu-ray and Revisited

I just grabbed a still from the Despecialized edition so I wouldn’t have to resize it.

All Things Star Trek

I must be missing something, because most of the DC additions and alternate takes are an improvement (especially the bit about Scotty’s nephew, which wasn’t in the theatrical cut and caused Scotty’s subsequent emotional breakdown not to make sense) and the color balance and shadow detail are so much better on the DC.

Hunt mentions that he’ll have more news on Star Trek BDs, so I’m hoping we finally get properly restored versions of the rest of the filmography.

The Director’s cut is the dvd. The one labeled theatrical is the blu ray.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

There’s definitely something to that Technicolor look though 😃

Oh god yes. Those colors with this thing would be wonderful. (There is still the unfortunate light leak present through most of it, but the scan has a remarkable amount of detail for what it is. The fact that people don’t have smeary Loweryized faces is just great.)

I can’t accept TFA as a real entry in the SW saga because it devalues the events in the original trilogy, and renders all those trials, lessons, and victories as nullified, by the very people who achieved them.

This article is an excellent explanation of why some fans may be struggling with Lucas’ fairy tale ending being erased. Real life doesn’t always end with dancing plush toys.

This is an excellent read and Austin Walker is a treasure. I’m so glad Giant Bomb hired him.

I see so much being made out of the fact that TFA takes so much of its story beats and imagery from the first Star Wars movie, but never really much discussion about the context in which it does so. TFA focuses on protagonists who are living in the shadow of larger than life figures.
Rey has a Rebel Pilot doll. Kylo Ren seeks to follow in Darth Vaders footsteps. All of them have missing parent figures. There’s that wonderful scene where Fin recognizes Han as a war hero, and Rey recognizes him as a smuggler. Heck, at one point in the movie there’s a shot that frames the deactivated R2-D2 as a rather imposing and statuesque figure over the smaller BB-8. All of this colors the new character’s decisions and attitudes in a way that isn’t seen in the original trilogy.

TFA sufficiently retells the Star Wars myth in the way that the original Star Wars retold the old space adventure serials and the classic hero’s journey.
