I like the execution of Ben surviving in this version, but what would happen next?

The movie carries on as it did. After the main trio hugs at the celebration, instead of cutting to Tatooine, it cuts to Red Five flying towards the Ahch-To island. Rey walks up the Jedi Steps and into a hut. There she builds her new lightsaber and ignites it. She walks to the same place where she found Luke in TFA. Rey sees Ben watching the Binary Sunset. The ghosts of Luke, Leia, and Anakin watch as Rey and Ben stand together. THE END.

I like this version, but I just had another (probably slightly easier) idea: since the trilogy is filled with instances of Rey and Ben looking at each other across impossibly long distances, what if you take the normal ending with Rey on Tatooine, and add a few composite shots of Ben looking off the cliff from TFA to make it seem like they’re looking at each other?

I hadn’t thought about it that way, but that kind of ties in to why I think they chose to replace the Rey Nobody twist with Rey Palpatine: Star Wars movies historically can’t think of much to do with major characters unless they have supposedly predestined paths.
Anakin was destined to destroy the sith? He becomes one!
Luke was foreseen to become a sith? He destroys them!
Rey has no major blood relations or prophesied fate? Uuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh… nvm yes she does.

Also, another problem I just realized with the finale is that the pacing in the current cut makes it look like Finn and Jannah were just standing there for 10 minutes: they line up the turret, then Rey and Ben team up, then Palpatine heals himself, then Wexley dies, then Lando shows up, then Palpatine electrocutes the resistance fleet, then Rey hears the voices of Jedi past, then Palpatine dies, THEN Finn actually shoots the command deck. Ideas as to how we can re-order some of this?

Okay then, here’s my very rushed Red Exegol as a test. It’s a start I guess?

Makes me realize how accustomed I’ve gotten to seeing blue-tinted scenes because, even though they’re equally saturated, the red looks way more (as Sheev would say) unnatural.

I would really love to find a way to include reference to a more large-scale stormtrooper uprising, like what happened in the Trevorrow version. But all I can think of now is 1-minute deleted scene from the Last Jedi (a stormtrooper recognizes Finn in an elevator, Finn says “please don’t do this,” and the stormtrooper makes up a cover story, allowing Finn to get away), a 30-second deleted scene from the Force Awakens (where Finn, still in full stormtrooper armor, lets a random civilian go) and possibly repurposing the line “all over the galaxy” from the end of the movie. It would be really hard to make fit but I still think it might be worth it.

Or, failing that, I’d maybe want to find a way to add in the stun-blaster effect (from ANH and TLJ) when they shoot the stormtroopers during the Star Destroyer rescue mission because… seriously… the stormtroopers were all kidnapped and brainwashed as children, and yet the heroes kill SO MANY OF THEM without a second thought. I mean, I know it’s an action movie but SERIOUSLY. They create characters like Finn and Jannah just to show that stormtroopers are people and yet they still treat them as cannon fodder. I can’t be the only one that finds that really uncomfortable, but I haven’t heard anyone else talking about it.

I’m interested in replacing the “Nobody” twist in TLJ with the Palpatine twist, so that I can make a cut of TROS where Rey knows from the beginning. Does anyone know if/how I could adjust the audio of Kylo’s “You are a Palpatine” line so that it doesn’t sound like he’s talking through the mask? Or, would it be better to use a line from the audiobook?
