If I was placed in charge of DC and Marvel Comics, these are the changes I would implement throughout both companies.

REBOOT THE ENTIRE LINE OF COMICS

All storylines currently in progress would be wrapped up, the worst-selling/extraneous titles would be cancelled, and the best-selling figurehead titles would receive complete and total reboots, starting over with brand new issue #1s. The slate would be wiped completely clean; there would be absolutely no "have my cake and eat it too"-styled reboots ala Crisis on Infinite Earths or Nu52.

THE CHARACTERS WOULD AGE AND EVOLVE IN REAL TIME

No more compressing decades worth of storylines, sliding the timeline, or utilizing cosmic resets to preserve the status quo and keep the characters static while the world(s) around them changes. One year of storylines in the real world would approximate one year of events in-universe -- no exceptions. As the readers age, start careers, get married, have children, and eventually die, so to will the characters in the books (The mortal ones with average human lifespans, anyway.).

LIMIT THE NUMBER OF TITLES FOR ANY SPECIFIC SUPERHERO

So that means Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, the X-Men, etc. only get one or two titles each; no more three-five-seven-nine+ titles for anyone.

NO MORE SHARED UNIVERSE(S)

Basically, each superhero would exist in his/her title as if s/he was the only superhero in existence; allusions to other superheroes in other titles would be done in only the vaguest of ways, and guest appearances/crossovers would be rare and more-or-less considered out of continuity.

ALL MAIN TITLES WOULD BE WRITTEN FOR AN ALL-AGES AUDIENCE

Brutal violence, gore, sex, and profanity would no longer be allowed. All primary superhero titles would be written so as to appeal to adults and children both. All the R-and-X-rated stuff is to be reserved for miniseries published outside of the main titles.

NO MORE "WRITING FOR THE TRADE"

Character and story arcs can go on indefinately, but specific storylines must be resolved within one-to-four issues; no more decompression.

CROSSOVER EVENTS WOULD BE RARE

There would be no more of this annual "events that shake the world/galaxy/universe/multiverse" crap. Events would be very rare events --one every seven-to-ten years or so. Furthermore, events would be written so as to be standalone miniseries; there would be no tie-in miniseries/storylines or interference with the main titles.

IF A MAJOR/SUPPORTING CHARACTER IS TO DIE, IT MUST BE WITH DIGNITY

Deaths likes this one

 photo Crisis_on_Inf_Earths_TPB_jxsi-DC-2.jpg

are all well and good when used sparingly, but deaths like this one

are completely unacceptable and absolutely anathema.

NO OVERPOWERING CHARACTERS

Characters must have limitations so that they can be reasonably challenged. In other words, Superman can't move planets or travel at/past the speed of light, Wolverine can't regenerate from atomic explosions, Batman can't beat everyone with enough prep time, etc.

I love all these ideas!  make comics fun and dramatic while making them for kids again.

Oh and while dealing with marvel would you please undo One More day and bring back Spider-Girl,I really like her and can't stand that she was wiped from the time line.

Whatever your views on ISIS they get more publicity doing it this way.

The BBC should have left the sequence the way it was intended or not announced the trim.

Thousands of people get killed by cars each year but they still have car chases on television.

Imagine some kid who has just lost their parents in a robot kidnapped taxi cab watching The Runaway Bride as a distraction, think of the children.

Yeah that is why I am all for spending as little time thinking about Isis as possible, they do this for the attention. We need to show them these tactics will not work.

Oh and don't think i don't feel for people who are beheaded.  When I was in the mental hospital there was an older man there that was a very nice guy and I got to know. He was a vet from the Iraq war who was there because so far 16 civilians that he befriended over in Iraq had been murdered by Isis this year and it had caused him to have a break down. So yeah I have seen first hand the pain this causes but that leaves me with two questions. First how come those 16 deaths of Iraqese that happened first didn't get any media attention,I mean aren't their deaths just as tragic? They were to this guy I met.  Second what do we do about it?  It seems to me that giving them more attention is exactly what they want,so that doesn't seem like the answer to me. I am not sure what the answer is but only caring when white people die and then changing the way we do things because of it just feels wrong to me.

I like most of those ideas but I have to admit personally I am little sick of reboots in general, not just with Star Trek but everywhere. So I would rather see something set in the prime universe.

Riker on the Titan could work since that would tie into TNG and right now that series seems to be just as popular and have just as much Nostalgia for it as TOS and it would continuing the story instead of rebooting the universe yet again.

Okay despite the silly idea and the fact that I didn't like the first episode at all I sat down and watched Into The Dalek and it was a big improvement.  In Mr.Pink Moffat seems to have figured out how to write a mature character who is more then quirks and catchphrases and yet still has flaws.

Clara starts off not being very likable(I don't know if it's just the fact that I know military people and emergency workers that made this bug me but to me it seems like a no brainer that you don't make jokes about them killing people or not being able to save people.  I mean even if you don't like guns the fact is these people go through hell trying to keep you safe so making bad jokes is just in really poor taste)still she redeems herself by going off with The Doctor at the drop of a hat because he needs her.

Even the Doctor who I didn't like in the last episode comes off as a little more likable and he seems to have dimensions besides just being depressed.  He is still far too depressed for my liking but if the writing would just lighten up a little I think that could be fixed. While the last episode left no impression on me besides thinking that the show was dead and we were stuck with a flat lead this one at least gives me hope that things can improve.

Was it perfect?  Far from it the story is silly and the idea that The Doctor is not a good man is still just pure BS that comes out of nowhere without any set up but it was a hug improvement and I didn't hate watching it.  i give it 4.5/10.  That may seem low but after the last episode almost killed the show for me that is a huge improvement and I have hope that maybe by the end of this season the show will pull it's self back up to being average and fun.

All in all I think this should have been the episode they opened with because it does a much better job of making me like the 12th Doctor then the last episode did.  As I said it's not perfect and I don't think it will win over non fans but as a fan of the show it gives me hope that things can be fixed.

Nervous networks are nothing new. The 80's series The Greatest American Hero briefly changed the last name of the main character, from Ralph Hinkley to Ralph Hanley, in the wake of the assassination attempt on President Reagan. The shooter was named John Hinckley.

Now that is just silly.  What message was the network trying to send any way?  Were they really saying that anyone born with the last name Hinkley was a crazy assassin? Because goodness knows people don't have free will and if they are born with a certain name they will kill.  That is why everyone who has ever been born with the Joseph becomes a dictator and kills millions.

So what do you think about this?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/style-blog/wp/2014/09/04/the-bbc-removed-a-beheading-scene-from-doctor-who-after-islamic-state-killings/

I think it is silly for two reasons. First off terrorists behead people all the time but the only reason the BBC cares is that this time it was a western reporter, where is the concern for all the non reporters who have been beheaded over the years.

Second if we start changing the way we do things because of what monsters like this do then we are letting them win. I mean people die on Doctor Who every single week are they going to edit an episode every time one of those deaths resembles the way terrorists kill people?  Buildings get blown up all the time on the show and terrorists blow up buildings, why aren't those episodes edited?  I guess because the people who die in bombings are not white reporters so they don't count as tragic deaths in the eyes of the BBC.

Any way that is how i feel, what do you think?

I DO like this idea but they did kind of touch on that stuff already in Star Trek 6 -

Gorkon said: You don't trust me, do you? I don't blame you. If there is to be a brave new world, our generation is going to have the hardest time living in it.

So the only superpowers are the Federation and the Romulan star empire...and then Romulus is destroyed by the Hobus star, right?

What happnes next could be very interesting...or very boring.

The Gamma Quadrant is largely a blank canvas at this point, so setting something there could prove interesting, or at least fresh.

One thing we often see in Star trek is a crew of Humans with one or two aliens in the mix.

What if we were to flip things around and have a token 'human' that is the odd man out.

Would that be an interesting enough premise?

Yeah I like that idea. Maybe the captain is the only human on a ship mostly populated by alien races that have only held supporting roles in older series so we get to learn about new races as well as the characters and the captain is the outsider this time.

I think the Romulans are powerful enough that their empire would survive the blow of their home world blowing up and they would still be in better shape then the Klingons who seemed to be on their last leg at the end of DS9.

I know the idea was touched on in Star Trek six but i think there is room to expand on it and use it to create contrast between the captain and his crew and give us stories where they would have to learn to trust each other.

Yeah it always bugged me that we didn't get to see too much of the Gamma quadrant on DS9 so I would love the chance to go there and really explore it.

Hey let's play a little game.  Let's say you were asked to come up with an idea and setting for a twenty odd episode per season new series of Star Trek to be aired in 2016. What would you characters, setting, and story be.  it can be anything as long as it would work in the Tv and not movie format.  let's see what we can come up with:)

I would get back to basics while playing with what has been set up. The setting of the show would be the brand new Enterprise F,it's first mission would be to explore.

The show would be set ten years after the Domian war and the war would be set up in flashback through out the season for viewers who didn't see DS9. The Federation and Romulans would be the only strong powers left and expanding all over the place.

For political reasons the Federation has decided that the flag ship needs to go on a mission of exploration into the Gamma Quadrant, which is mostly still unknown to the Federation and may be important if a war breaks out with the Romulans.

There is just one problem the war wiped out most of Starfleet's captains who are trained in deplomats and explores, pretty much all of the officers came up through the ranks in the war and have the mindset of combat troops seeing everything as a threat plus they will have to get along with races they were fighting in the war,the central question will be how do you ask these people to move from a war mindset to a mission of peace.

The Captain would not really be trusted by the crew because he went down in disgrace in the war. He is chosen for this mission because he is one of the few high ranking officers who is a trained diplomant and explorer, since he came up through the ranks before the war. He was respected enough at the time that he was given command of a group of ships in the opening days of the war but he was not a good combat officer and he fell for a trap everyone else saw coming and lost all the ships under his command,so he has been grounded since but now Starfleet turns to him because he is the only respected explorer they have left after the war but the crew being veterans of that war and going into their former enemy's space does not trust him so he has to prove himself to the crew and he has his hands full.

When they get to the Gamma Quadrant they take on a Vorta advisor to help them in their mission and needless to say this doesn't sit well with the crew and to make matters worse he or she wants to be helpful and over the course of the first few episodes the Captain comes to like him or her and this doesn't sit well with the crew.

What is more since the Dominion is gone and it was the only form of government most of the Gamma Quadrant knew for thousands of years the whole place is in chaos with some planets at war with each other and others starving and some that have just dropped out of contact with the rest of the galaxy. So while exploring the Captain's skills as a diplomat are put to the test solving the bigger problems that have been thrust into his lap,he gets little help from Starfleet since his mission is viewed by command as mostly PR to prove the Federation is not an Empire like the Romulans but the fact is command is too busy trying to out flank the Romulan empire to care much about one ship in this far off sector of space.

Episodes would be split between exploring, dealing with character's personal issues left over from the war, finding peaceful solutions to the problems of the Gamma quadrant, and dealing with the rising tensions with the Romulans.

Well that is my pitch, what do you think?

Thanks a bunch for understanding.

The worst thing to encounter with this problem are people and doctors who just tell you "get a job" or "stop being depressed" or "Learn to stay focused on a task or thought",if I could do those things I wouldn't have a problem it's the fact that I can't that is the problem.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

I don't want to go back to the hospital so I don't want to try suicide again.  I talked to my doctor and he talked to medicaid but they will not budge.  he was already prescribing the generic cheap brands of the meds so all that is left for me to try are herds and diet but those don't work too well for people who are as messed up as I am.

Thanks for your prayers,I will keep pressing on but right now it feels pretty bad.

You know he put me right off of my dinner,I couldn't even enjoy the chocolate cake i had baked after reading his post.

Never want to hear from him again.

 I LOL'D HARD!

what's with you people? The man was just sharing his good news.

But, oh, no, shouldn't be talking about ass sex, harrumph harrumph!

Puh-leeeaze.

Hot Rod is a fine gentleman and there's nothing wrong with him in my book.

Yeah, the chocolate cake bit didn't help anything.

But usually a gentleman is someone with class.  HotRod is a person of crass.  I've never seen him contribute anything useful to any discussion as long as I've been a member here.  Nearly all his jokes are rude or gross.  And his most recent one, I admit, is not the only nasty joke I've seen here: I avoid many threads just because at one point or another they turned into something tasteless, even if only temporarily.  What he said was extremely disrespectful of his wife, and for me, that is simply not okay.  Furthermore, he did it in a thread that was supposed to be upbeat and heartwarming.  He clearly has little respect for me and demonstrated such by contributing such filthy language to a thread I had started to share things worth sharing.  If he wants to be gross, he should start a thread entitled "Share Your Kinky Latests and Greatests".  I can avoid that and won't have to worry about reading such smut while looking forward to something pleasant.  I know he doesn't care whether I ignore him or not, but he should at least know that while such humor has its fans (disappointingly you among them, Leo), it's at least decent to keep it away from those who clearly don't want to see it.

Thank you.  Because of my problems I can't make it clear what I am trying to say but that was exactly what I was trying to say and why I am ignoring Hotrod.  Thank you so much.

I only mentioned the chocolate cake because I am on a diet and that was my first desert in two weeks and I had worked hard on it and was looking forward to it but couldn't enjoy it after that story.

Oh and again thank you for explaining things for me.

Sorry if I over reacted.  Really I am.

My life is pure shit right now and I may have taken it out on some people here.

I know you have no reason to forgive me but I can only ask that you do.  I am going through some big issues and right now this place is really the only outlet I have to talk to people so everything blows up here once in a while.

I will try to do better in future.  Sorry.

If you want more details then what I gave here follow this link.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

Just over a week ago I got out of a stay from a mental hospital for a suicide attempt that was brought on by depression because I can't function in the real world or hold down a job without meds.  The doctor's there and my own shrink proscribed some meds that really helped and for the first time in a long time I had some hope in my life.  Well now that has been yanked away.

Medicaid rejected all of my prescriptions for my problems including depression and they will not even let the pharmacy fill them, and my family can't afford them any other way.

So i am back sitting at home, unable to keep a single thought straight,a 29 year old burden to my family, and without any hope.  Just getting more and more dapressed as I am able to do less and less with my life because I was born with a stupid brain that doesn't work right.  Half the time when I try to read I can't tell what the words are saying and it takes forever to type anything out and I keep flipping out on people when I don't want to.  I am really afraid that I am going to end up on the street or in a metal hospital for the rest of my life because my dad only keeps me around because of my mom,he really thinks I should just pull things together and I keep trying but it's not working and I am costing my family money that they don't have.

I really wish I had been aborted, everyone would be much better off if I had never been born.

I just can't take being useless lump any more.

Don't overreact now, drama queen. Don't try and beg for pity.

I never said I was offended. I wasn't the one who was offended and felt the need to complain that somebody ruined his chocolate cake (by the way, thank you, that remark really made my morning, I needed a hearthy laugh like that).

I'm just amused by babies; and you reacting like this and posting such nonsense, confirms to everybody that you are not a grown man, you're an infant.

If my not wanting details about everyone's sex lives makes me a baby put me on your ignore list.

Next time I take a dump I'll be sure to post a photo of it in the good news thread and if you have a problem with that then you are not an adult you are a baby.

I think I am going to ignore you now too since you seem to just want to bully people who don't want to hear disgusting sex stories on a Star Wars message board.

Yeah so we still have two years.

I just hope they don't try to rush a film out in that time.  Hopefully after ITD costing almost $200 million and just getting above the breaking even point they will have learned their lesson and focus on getting a good script for the next movie.

I really hope they do because to tell the truth I really don't have much interest in another Star Trek movie at the moment and I am about as die hard a fan as you can get but ITD was just that bad.

Okay it doesn't sound like they turned away from the dark and depressing angle where Moffat is trying to paint the Doctor as the real villain of the series so rather then watch each week and complain I am done. I will tune back in when Moffat is replaced. The man has lost his touch and destroyed the character of the doctor. For the first time since 95 I am done with Doctor Who:(

Sad to say but i think the show needs a rest of about five years or so and completely new blood.  I think Moffat and the 12th Doctor have broken the show beyond all hope of repair.

It would be nice if he just wandered around taking a general interest in things and being kind to strangers for a few years.

Yes exactly.  That is what got me into the show in the first place when I started watching on PBS.  I like these other shows but what made Doctor Who stand out was that unlike Star Trek he wasn't on a mission and unlike the XFiles there were not plots being hatched around him that he had no choice but to become involved with. The Doctor was just an average guy(for a timelord)who wondered around and when he saw someone in trouble helped them because it was the right thing to do not because some super being was following him everywhere and setting him up.

I would love to see a return to the classic adventure format because I mean it I am so burnt out on this every season having a super villain thing that I am not sure I will keep watching. It's so played out and it has been done in every way it can be done.

What was fresh a decade ago is now stale and I want something new.
