That is not at all what I would call a cocktail dress.
That is not at all what I would call a cocktail dress.
I mean, I’ve only watched Fargo, which I like, but can’t say I agree at all (especially having just seen Knives Out).
Besides the point though. It’s an out of the box choice like Johnson that’ll be sure to shake things up.
Little bit of a risk considering he’s only done one movie and it was a bomb, but I guess the TV balances it out.
I feel like it’s worth mentioning Vader chokes a total of two people in all of TESB.
My guess is you could potentially turn the first season into movie that’s around 2 hours long with aggressive editing. If the first couple chapters are anything to go off, with thirty minute episodes that sometimes tell a story of their own without greatly progressing the larger whole, it’d probably be easy to trim.
For instance, depending on what happens in the next few episodes concerning the baby Yoda, you could potentially cut episode 2 down to a single scene (leaving the planet).
I stand by this a potential (in fact you could be even more aggressive and cut out episode 2 entirely), but I also kinda like the idea of doing a series of movies. In that case, the first three episodes put together would make a fairly solid intro movie.
I’ve never had a ton of patience with the Filoni/Favreau mandos. The proud warrior race thing just isn’t my cup of tea. The less time spent in that enclave the better, as far as I’m concerned.
I agree, though I thought the other shows did a good job balancing it out with the pacifistic Mandalorians. I hope that we see some of that come through in this show, though I guess I doubt it. I’ll be kinda bothered if he never takes off his helmet too, that was a pretty silly bit when they said they never ever take off their helmets.
I enjoyed episode 3, though not as much as 2. All the stuff with the Mandos sort of made my eye twitch. Hope they don’t just become ‘generic warrior race’ and lose the dimensionality of the animated shows.
The fact that they literally just redid the armor/flashback montage from episode 1 kinda just made me laugh. And the only piece of new information was that the attack was caused by the Separatists, which, really, could have been easily assumed just based on the timeline and the Mandalorian’s hatred of droids.
Anyway that aside it’s a fun direction the show is going in and I’m excited to see what happens next.
the comparatively angry delivery of his lines versus the more soft-spoken delivery of the original,
You sure about that?
Kelvin film #4 is on, to be written and directed by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) with Pine likely back on board:

It strikes me that this is probably their attempt at a Rian Johnson-esque pick.
I checked quickly and it looked like HD footage from the blu-ray to me. I didn’t take a close look but the shots that I saw of original footage looked pretty shitty to me, definitely not HD.
Alright, I’ll throw in my guess.
Domestic opening weekend: $200mil
Domestic total: $700mil
Worldwide total: $1.4bil
Yeah, one of the great things about episode 2 is it’s fully cementing that this won’t be the boring badass dark and gritty Mandalorian power fantasy that I (and I’m sure others) feared. The inclusion of possibly the cutest creature ever in a piece of Star Wars media seems like a nice middle finger to those who say Star Wars shouldn’t be cute or kiddie in anyway.

It’s already been picked up for season 2. In fact I believe they’ve already started production.
Yeah but coming up with potential explanations for things aren’t as fun as complaining about literally everything possible.
That’s ridiculous. No one’s watching these movies for the plot. If you skip ANH, you’re skipping the whole point.
Not to mention, you are missing a vital chapter in the story of the main characters (though I guess that’s beside your point).
Now, skipping ROTJ on the other hand… an interesting idea.
I’m increasingly of the opinion that these reworked viewing orders are more trouble than they’re worth. There was an argument for it in the days before the ST when a release-order viewing was a bummer because it ended with the PT, but now that there’s another act, I think there’s less reason to break up trilogies. And if we really want to get heretical, I think it would probably be fine for someone with no SW experience who wants to get in on the fun of TROS to skip right to the ST if they’re pressed for time; TFA is pretty much designed to be a secondary entry point.
I would agree with this, though only if the person in question already knows the Empire twist. That’s too good a moment to miss.
I’ve seen someone make that connection before. I highly doubt he’d have temp scored the entire film to any one non-Williams composer though, and especially not Philip Glass because the styles are so different. Likely just that one cue.
Oh even the comments under both videos make the link, I agree it was likely just for that scene, but can we be a little less pedantic and enjoy the trivia?
Not trying to be pedantic. It’s fun trivia but in my mind, if you’re going on a game of ‘guess the temp score,’ why stop after just one cue?
I often wonder what some of the other things Lucas might have used for temp score. As far as I know, the only documentation of temp score is on the original SW (where Rinzler and other writers have mentioned quite a few cues). I seem to recall hearing about Lucas using a piece of classical music or something for the immolation in ROTS but I don’t remember. And there’s talk that he also used some of the LOTR score for that film as well but I don’t know if it’s been confirmed.
Well there is a rough cut of the new ending for ROTJ that used a temp track which Williams pretty much copied

and this is the original temp track that was used
Wow, that’s amazing to see. Where did you get that video from?

I hope that when the inevitable saga box set comes out next year it includes some more TFA deleted scenes.
Like, what is this scene in this video at :28? Stormtroopers at dusk in the desert (but in the actual desert, not the set used for the opening scene). I’ve never seen this before…

John Campea stood correct on that The Mandalorian would be the most pirated show of all time. Just think about how fans in other countries outside the U.S. feel about this considering that Disney+ is exclusive in America.
Don’t know who that is, but I think pretty much anyone could have predicted that.
This is John Campea. A very active film pundit in the movie community online.
Oh, he’s a YouTube guy. I see.

Yeah, I see your motivations behind all of these choices. I have also said in the past that if you’re gonna do the Machete Order, you might as well do ROTS as the only prequel flashback rather than 2 and 3. I do agree that maybe there are a little too many “flashbacks” that could make the watch through feel a little disorienting, but maybe you could show someone this order and report back to us. If you’re worried about overwhelming someone with too many movies and flashbacks, at the very least I think you could do IV-V-III-VI-VII-VIII-IX.
This makes sense to me.
Honestly it depends on the first time viewer. If it’s a kid, I wouldn’t dare risk not showing in release order. Yet, even if they’re older and know the twist, I probably wouldn’t risk not showing in release order because the PT could easily turn them off to the whole thing. In fact I’d only do chronological order if the first time viewer in question is fully committed to watching all of them, and then release order for someone who’s open to viewing all, but not sure. And then ^this order for someone who doesn’t really care about the prequels, so they just get a taste.
If you can get rid of the HDR grade on the inevitable 4KBD release, the log-style video should be really helpful for those trying to regrade.
Oh definitely. As a colorist, it’s always best to work with a flat image to be able to extract all the dynamic range, colors, etc.
Exactly.

Shaw’s eyebrows look different to me, but that might just be the colors.
JEDIT: They’re totally different, and much much more seamless.
You think it’s seamless, take a closer look at when Luke takes the helmet off and you see them in shadow.
