Dude, you know theres a story being told during this film right? Its right in the foreground, more or less right in front of all those tiny little lights in the background. If you squint real hard you can just make it out...

I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure that ESBR is essentially ESB with updated visuals. Fixing these inconsistencies is kind of the point.

Idea: Integrating the two trilogies thread
Time

I'm glad this thread was made. On this site changing the OT to fit the PT is avoided like the plague. I understand the sentiment, but I don't agree. My preferred versions are the theatricals and the revisited (well they will be when released). But the problem with these is that they don't work 1-6. I've always believed that the correct order is 4-6, 1-3 (although now I'm for 4-5-1-2-3-6) and I've stuck by this belief because its the only way the movies work as is.

I would love to see versions of the OT that were specifically made to satisfy those watching 1-6. Sure the movies probably wouldn't be as good, but that's not really the point. People argue that putting PT elements in ANH would take away the ability for it to stand alone. Well, don't we already have TWO near perfect versions of ANH that stand alone? Why not one that would follow the PT more closely?

When did Empire become held in higher regard than Star Wars?

I was 7 when Empire came out, and while it was certainly a cool movie I liked a lot, it had a lot of stuff that was hard for a kid to process.  Down ending, moral ambiguity, not to mention the sexual tension.  Star Wars and Jedi were much more satisfying for kids--the bad guys got beaten and there was a big KABOOM to prove it.

I liked Star Wars better until I had time to grow up and have a better understanding of Empire.  Empire is certainly the least kid-friendly of the movies, and when a large chunk of your fans are kids, that means it's not going to be as popular at first.  But there's no doubt in my mind it's the best of the movies.

That's funny. I always preferred Empire as a kid, but if you ask me now, I rate the original ever-so-slightly higher.

You "found it", but it only has eight views...

And I actually thought it was kind of funny, but only because of the accents (which I don't believe are fake).

Considering he was falling straight down, right in the middle of a very wide chasm...this 'vent' must have had an extraordinary amount of 'suction' to pull him in from so far away...  Fair enough, but how come none of the other 'vents' in the wall that he already plunged past managed to 'suck him in' when he passed?...  This particular one must have had 'turbo suction' I guess...

Why do the stormtroopers always miss? Why is there gravity in the meteor? Why does Leia make out with Luke?

All very good questions...

The real question is how long would it take people on Tatooine, the outer rim of the galaxy to find out about the DS. A week? I think Coruscant works.

Just had a thought, at the end of Jedi (the SE versions) there are scenes of worlds celebrating the defeat of the Emperor, including Tatooine......

J

True, true. I still think Coruscant is plausible. To even just be there for a day, to overlook the Senate when the Emperor announces its being dissolved, seems likely. Why would any Senator argue against the Emperor when a weapon that could destroy their planet looms over their heads?

I don't really care for any part of the prequels to be integrated into the original trilogy.....maybe thats why I'm being negative.

This just sounds like the sort of modification the modern Lucas would introduce

J

I understand the sentiment, but it just seems like hating for the sake of hating. Adywan added a planet right? So why not Coruscant? Adywan added a battle droid too, but I don't usually see people complaining about that.

Yeah it sounds like a good idea, but when our heroes discover the Death Star at the remains of Alderaan, Han especially can't believe what he's seeing, if it had been stationed at the Empire home planet, the nerve centre of the galaxy every star system would know. The ultimate weapon may end up guarding Coruscant, but I think at this early stage it would still be hidden,....dunno

J

I knew this thought would come up. Who says its been stationed at Coruscant for long? Considering at the start of ANH the Imperials are starting to reveal the DS to the galaxy, wouldn't it make sense to unveil above Coruscant? Maybe there was some sort of launch party of some sort. It sounds silly, but it seems a possibility. The real question is how long would it take people on Tatooine, the outer rim of the galaxy to find out about the DS. A week? I think Coruscant works.

Throw an x-wing at the button?

I don't like the scene where Luke tries to lift the X-wing. Since we already know he can lift a rock, why can't he lift the X-wing with a rock?

Well there you go, he's supposed to lift the X-wing with the force.

In all seriousness, Luke says "it's too big."  Yoda replies "size matters not," so the problem is clearly in Luke's perception of his task.  I don't understand why this is a problem.

Or were you joking?  It's tough to tell.

Definitely joking. I was following up your ridiculous idea with another ridiculous idea. It probably didn't help that I was the one who suggested the change to the Rancor scene in the first place.

"Well i've almost finished transferring all the FX work to the new blu-ray sourced video. The difference in quality between the HDTV and the Blu-Ray is pretty noticeable. Some shots weren't as easy as just importing the new source video because of the slight differences in colour, grain structure etc. So these need a lot more work. But i've tweaked most of the shots in some small or large way."

(On a slightly unrelated note, how about the blu-rays?  I'll read the threads about them here tomorrow at the office, but I'm curious.  What's the general consensus here?  Worth buying?  Wait and get 'em on ebay?  Do tell.)

As far as the Star Wars is concerned it hasn't been released on Blu-ray. There was a set with 90 minute spoofs, some deleted/alternate scenes (6 discs worth of optional commentary track), some old interlaced documentaries, and some cobbled together new documentaries. Beyond that though the films themselves aren't present on the discs. False advertising. The last time the films were put on a home video format was in 2006. They weren't even presented to home video format standard at the time. Utilizing some old Laserdisc master. Which is sad. Also The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith have never been released on DVD or, Blu-ray. Their alternate and, deleted scenes have though. With optional commentary. On the subject of the commentary AFAIK they're edited together from archival stuff. For Star Wars, Empire Strikes back, and Return of the Jedi alternate scenes respectfully. So they're probably not even commenting on the deleted scenes on the discs. I don't know how such a lackluster product could be worth purchasing.... :P

Actually the Blu-ray ROTS is the theatrical cut. The only change on the DVD was a transition, and it was restored to the original on Blu-ray. Your point remains though.
