Haven't read through this entire thread, so I hope I'm not retreading to much water, but here's my idea for the opening of ROTJ that I posted in the ESB/ROTJ Wishlist thread. I'm no good at posting pics to show exactly what I'm talking about, but I think you can follow...

Opening text would have to be altered to mention that Luke has returned to Dagobah to continue his training.

After opening text, we pan down to Darth Vaders Super Stardestroyer near the uncompleted Death Star.

Cut to Darth Vader in his mediation chamber talking to Luke telepathically through the force urging him to join him on the darkside.

Cut to the deleted scene of Luke in the cave working on his new lightsaber. Edit the exterior of the cave to resemble Dagobah. Luke shakes the voice in his head and continues working and then ignites his saber.

Cut back to the Super Stardestroyer and we see Vader's shuttle leave for the Death Star (why was he leaving from a standard Stardestroyer originally?) continue to the original opening scene with Vader and Jerrod.

After that scene, cut to Yoda's hut on Dagobah for Yoda's death scene. After Luke says "So I am a Jedi.", leave out Yoda's line about having to face Vader again and just cut to him saying "When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be." This way we get the idea that Luke has continued and now finished his training with Yoda. Yoda dies, the conversation with Obi-Wan is had, Luke takes off in the X-Wing and then cut to the Emperors arrival on the Death Star. That scene plays out like normal and then cut to the droids on Tattooine and continue from there. This all gives plenty of time between seeing Luke leave Dagobah and his arrival at Jabbas palace.

This would give the beginning of the film a more menacing tone with Vader still haunting Luke and more of a build up to the action at Jabba's palace. Agree? Disagree?

This would be my ideal opening.

^Sounds like some sort of devious plot to plant ideas in my head, like some sort of inception.

Yeah, I tend to do that.

Anyways, I was thinking about the first time that a rebel ship is destroyed, and it doesn't really have as much weight as it should. That's why I thought we could make that Madine's ship, which would make it's destruction more surprising/shocking because the audience would think "oh my god, he was just explaining the plan, and now he's dead!" Also it would explain his absence from the battle.

And yeah, the reason I considered removing the Leia and Wicket scene is to make the Ewoks more mysterious.

I've reviewed most of the script and I like it.

-I think that if the funeral pyre could be moved to Tatooine that would be perfect.

-I personally like the celebrations.

-I think Lando's death would add some gravity.

-I wonder if Leia's first scene with Wicket could be removed entirely. Just thinking here, I just wonder what people think about that.

-You noted that the "general" line is a little weird, I feel like it can just be cut out.

Other than that it looks like you've got everything. Great work!

I feel I need to go with the PT explanation for Force ghosts. In the OT, Vader being a ghost is practically a continuity error. Many people thought that when Jedi die, they just become a ghost. This can't be correct though, because Obi-Wan says that he will become more powerful than Vader can possibly imagine. So Vader being a ghost is a little bit of a head scratcher. I firmly believe Vader should not be a ghost for all the reasons I already stated, and for the reason that it is kind of an unexplained moment. Aalenfae said that when he's editing ROTS, he tries to get rid of anything that isn't explained in the movie. So I would do the same here.

But mostly I think that the Star Wars series is too serious to simply cast the over-happy ending off as part of the fantasy. My biggest beef with ROTJ (and I'm not alone here) is that the movie is way too happy. Vader is EVIL for almost 4 movies. Consequence is necessary. That's why they killed him. Also, it gives the final conversation between Luke and Vader MUCH MORE meaning. I mean honestly, think of that conversation and then think about how Luke and Vader can talk again whenever they want.

I actually don't think Anakin should appear as a force ghost at all for many reasons. First of all, it makes no sense that Sebastian Shaw (as he appears) would be the ghost. It makes a little more sense that Hayden Christensen would be the ghost, but it would be confusing to people who watch 4-6 and to Luke actually. Any way, I know Qui-Gon was able to discover the power beyond the grave, but for Kenobi and Yoda they needed to learn. It almost makes sense that they could have taught Anakin after he was dead, but then why didn't they teach the other dead Jedi? The biggest reason why I'm against it though is that if Anakin doesn't turn into a ghost, it makes his redemption much more bittersweet. When ROTJ ends, Vader's dead and you're actually sad. Then, oh wait a minute, ROTJ is a happy movie, now Vader's a ghost too! Vader was really evil at one time. I feel there needs to be a consequence for that. Having him be dead, and unable to find life after life, would be a much more poignant end to the saga.

What luck!  Our team may finally be complete (or mostly complete).  Emanswfan is fixing up the deleted scenes and is working on the ROTJ scenes in particular right now.  I'm not sure if he wants to be an official contributor here, but I know I really would appreciate his efforts:

Alright, what I typed didn't really match up with what I meant. The shot of Boba's head comes too long after the shot of Boba falling into the Sarlaac, and it just seems a little weird.

Do you think we need to see his head first and then his body?

or only 1 or the other... .

Thanks for watching this,

Should his head be on the sand or on the skiff it is only suggestions anyway

It was my first attempt at trying to fix Bobba....would have to recut it to see what it was like

either way I'm not sure if what I suggest is possible but speaking to a mate last night he seems to think most things are possible with CGI and this is not too radical IMO

Yeah I was thinking one or the other. I feel once he's in the Sarlaac we're done with him. And his head would probably be in the sand.

OK as promised my Bobba Fett Inspiration for the CGI Experts

Not sure if it is possible so I hope Angel, Alanfae and Mithrandir can take a look.... It's the best I could do, and it's a better way for Bobba to go...than what is there at the momment if it could be pulled off.

http://www.mediafire.com/?gtsq72vys7i7lz4

it will make you laugh either way but it's not stupid like in the original

I let the last clip run to the end just so you know it does not effect other shots later on... I had to do quite a few flips to get this to come off... Basically it is some roto in and roto out work. I think the roto in is easy but the roto out will be a bit trickier but sand and sky I am sure is quite easy anyway Enjoy!

@fishmanlee I think elements of the Jerry Goldsmith Planet of the apes score might work well before the action around the sarlac pit.

Wow, if all the continuity could be fixed through CGI, this would be my ideal end for Boba Fett. I especially like that he's now the one to shoot Luke's hand. Only thing there that won't work is that one shot of Boba's helmet lying on the ground, it doesn't make sense because he's already in the Sarlaac.

I'm so glad you've made this script. Your vision for this edit aligns perfectly with mine. Also, the crawl is great.

I thought of a solution for the Rancor earlier today. In the movie, Luke is looking around, and there's a shot of the door panel. I suggest there is instead a shot of the door itself. Then, we have a shot of Luke closing his eyes, and then the door shuts.

Since the celebration scene at the end of TPM tends to be one of those things that ends up on the cutting room floor in fan edits, I got to thinking where else the rather catchy tune could be re-used so that it isn't lost:

http://youtu.be/PIJPOPkQ4Ag

So here it is used as an introduction to the Pod Race.  The Pod Race preperations have also been edited, based on edits done by Yads (who I think took his cues from another edit but I'm not sure) but rearranged to fit the new music.

What if the Pod Race music was used for the celebration? I think it would be much more bearable.

Ronster, I personally feel that your ideas are interesting, but I think you may be overreaching at this point.  I feel we should start with a more grounded edit first, stick largely faithful to the original story, and as was pointed out before, we have easily accessible building blocks for future edits.  I think ROTJ has many good elements already existing, and that some minor alterations could go a long way to drastically improve the story.  Many of your ideas can be used, but I hope I don't offend you when I say that currently I'm thinking of more basic changes.

That said, I have some good news.  Though more elaborate, I already had a good idea of how I want the final act of the story to move, but was stuck on the first act.  It's really far less complex, but I was having some writer's block as how we should provide the opening crawl and several scenes.  I had some great ideas that I think could start the movie slightly slower, but then provide fewer moments of slow exposition towards the middle, moving the plot faster overall.  I intend to post the first portion of the script today with some commentary on why I changed certain things, plus a few minor special effects and musical suggestions.

Speaking of those sorts of things, while I intend to make suggestions, I don't want to include everything in the script.  I want to leave that to our CGI wizards and suggest that they refer to the wishlist for most ideas.  While I do include a few because I feel strongly about them and no other reason, most I include simply because they may be essential for plot changes.

I'll try to get that first part of the script up today :)

Did you check the link? I can see that you did not.... If you are going to palm me off before even looking as I have given you the courtesy of then yes I would consider that rude considering it is meant to be a collaboration and that I have made an effort to include your ideas and other peoples, The 1st Act is the Hard part IMO

Please do get your script up... I am not trying to get in before you or anything it is fair to show you then you show me? And go from there

I honestly am not trying to overreach here, I had some Inspiration last night and thought I would share it, I had a big night out on Saturday, christmas party and was hungover and could not sleep last night, so thought I would focus on somthing that does not mean anyone has to agree with anything I do or say, or even consider using my ideas I already told you this

mabey you would even enjoy what i did or it might inspire you... ever thought of that.

If it is not a collaboration then you should probably change the title of the thread

I was watching ROTJ on Spike last night and kinda came up with an order for the battle. I skimmed through your edit and it seems to be roughly the same set up that was in my mind. I haven't actually watched it yet, so I don't know how it works thematically though.

And I think you're being a bit hard on darth_ender. Some of your ideas are pretty radical and might not even be possible. Such as your elaborate plan for Boba's demise, which I feel is what he was referring to when he was talking about overreaching.

Finally got around to watching the Lost Rebels. Some interesting stuff. I think the scenes on the Falcon are in such good condition their just asking to be used. Maybe not so much the random shots of soldiers running around, but those guys on the turrets should definitely be put in. Maybe that guy doing repairs too. The Mon Cal and the Sullustian pilots should be worked in too, their quality isn't too bad. Neither is Madine, who should show up at least twice I think.

Also, can any of the footage from this be used in the battle?

I really don't think Coruscant would work in the end - the way the movie works out. It would be cool, but I'm not sure what that would do to the tension, having Luke millions of light years away from the action.

On a different note, here's my video mock-up
http://vimeo.com/33865588

Keep in mind that it's JUST a mock-up, so don't expect completed/good-looking effects or anything.

It obviously needs some work, but exciting stuff either way. I really love that close up of the A-Wings. Awesome.

Just thinking here. Right after this is where the A-Wing flies into the Executor. What if the A-Wing fired a missile instead?

Opening crawl is more dramatic.  It sets up that Luke is on Dagobah finishing his training.  Show Luke with Yoda dying and subsequent discussion.  Show conversation with Ben afterwards.  Show X-wing leaving Dagobah (flipped and slightly altered shot from ESB  could work).  Show Vader arrive at DSII, talk with Jerjerrod, etc.  I'd love to include deleted scene with Luke's construction of lightsaber, but continuity would need to be fixed with Luke on Dagobah, and it's not really necessary.  Show 3PO and R2 approaching Jabba's Palace and go from there.  After defeating Jabba, use restored scene of sandstorm (would require dubbing, but with the noise of the storm it might be easier to get away with this).  Remove "promise to keep" line and Luke messing with hand.  Show X-wing and Falcon leaving Tatooine and include a couple lines about "meet you back at the fleet" but remove now redundant lines.  R2 beeps, Luke looks at hand and puts on glove, dark music, possibly slow, soft Imperial March, Luke says, "I just need to do some...thinking."  Cut to Emperor arriving at DSII.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

I think this proposition is incredible.

There's not much that I think I can do to physically help, but, either way, I would love to help by inputing thoughts/ideas throughout.

One idea I would like to push forward right away is that I think there should be a goal to keep this edit 120+min. Many, many, ROTJ edits are under the 120 mark, and it really hurts. This is the epic conclusion. It needs to have a runtime suitable for a Star Wars film.

I'll repeat it here: it's not the candy itself, but the seeming message that accompanies it, which to me is a subtle condoning of abortion, something I abhor in the majority of cases.  I don't know Frink's reasoning, but I find it to be pretty low class.

I understand where you're coming from, though the first time I saw it I didn't think about abortion. I thought about 2001: A Space Odyssey (which actually made me want to eat it more).

Anyways what I'm trying to say in a strange way here is that the people who made this might not have been thinking about abortion (and they probably weren't thinking about 2001 either, I'm just throwing that out to say the image of a fetus can bring up more thoughts than just abortion).

So... about that gummy fetus thing. It looks really weird, but I would eat it. I honestly don't care what something is shaped like when I eat it. You say a fetus is the same as a dead corpse? Well I've eaten many candies that have been shaped like skeletons.

I'm pro-choice by the way but I would like to note that has nothing to do with me being okay eating a fetus gummy.

The "I met a famous person" thread
Time

I have had little to no brushes with fame.

I once saw Nathan Horton (Bruins hockey player) when I was walking down a sidewalk. I once missed seeing Robert Downey Jr. eating his lunch during a Universal Studio tour by a few minutes.

There's this pretty funny guy on YouTube called Nathan Barnatt: http://www.youtube.com/user/nathanjbarnatt

He's not that well known (only about 60,000 subscribers), but I've seen him in a couple commercials. Anyways, I've always liked his videos, so it made me happy when I saw that he had commented on a few of my own YouTube videos. I can't remember exactly what he said on each, but they were positive, something like "awesome video."

Well, these are practically nothing compared to other people, but I'm fairly young so I'll see.
