I'm sorry, but this isn't a preservation. Ady doesn't need to go with the original colors. He can go with whatever colors he wants. This is his fan-edit.

Um, dude, I said that.  I also understand it isn't a restoration.  I was however, pointing out that from the Grey vs. Blue argument point of view that it is hard to determine what color(s) to use as there is no "pure" source.

I also stated multiple times that it was Ady's edit and I have faith in his coloration choices on it.

(how is it that I went  from thinking Grev vs. blue arguments were stupid and now I am fully involved in one.  What a hypocrite I am.  Oh well, all is fair in love and Star Wars I guess...)

To clarify, I wasn't talking to anyone in particular, I was just making a general statement.

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

Finally someone defending TPM: http://movies.ign.com/articles/121/1218394p1.html

I actually agree with most of the article. Now, don't get me wrong. I don't love TPM, and I still think it's the worst of the saga. But I feel like it get's a lot more hate than it should, especially from this website.

Also, truth be told, I was a kid when I first saw TPM so...

Domoinc has a good head on his shoulders he seems to get to the point on things.... His opinion is well decided and unbiased and although he is not pushy he lays it out bare... @Domoniccobb you'll be pleased to know I did the Coruscant scene because you said you'd like to see somthing of this nature and emanswfan made me decide to go back to it and I sorted out my problems with the executor so hopefully it's up here tonight at 85% and converting... It looks better than anything else because it's the last thing I did and It's the best I had done compositing wise it actually quite good scene.

I try my best.

Sounds good about Coruscant. I would love to see what you've got.

I know it seems a bit late to be asking this, but what is our source so he knows what colors to match?  I believe we should go with Harmy's Despecialized Edition as he offered.  Obviously we may need to pull bits from other sources, but that should be our primary source and efforts should be made to match.

Is this right, guys?  Should we used the Despecialized Edition, or is there another preferable version for a base?  Hyperspace Edition?  Dark_Jedi's V3?  2004 SE?  2011 BD?

I would say 2011 BD. There are a lot of SE additions that would be useful. We don't want to work from scratch here in terms of updating special effects.

True, but Harmy is upscaling his, isn't he?  But I don't know if his V1 is BD quality or not, and he's only just starting to finish up on ANH V2.  Also, since some of our material may be DVD quality, do we really want to aim for BD quality, or would we rather downsize to match?

I'm referring to actual SE additions, not the quality. Harmy removed useful things like the added space ships and he re-eyebrowed Anakin.

I guess this is something that would need to be voted on. For example; I like the new palace door, CG Sy Sootles, Han's unfreezing, the bantha herd, blinking Ewoks, improved R2 malfunction, and the celebrations. But many people might not like these. So maybe, depending on the general opinion, we could have a hybrid of sorts. With a color correction of course.

Bottom line: Either 2011 BD, Despecialized, or both.

So since the various Bothan ideas (or no Bothans) is up for vote once again, I have a few good reasons to push for my idea (the one I included in the script):

1) It requires the fewest newly filmed material or CGI work (just showing eyes and hands, and perhaps the eyes can be pulled from somewhere else).

2) It fits in well in a midpoint in the script rather than drastically changing the opening, and possibly the nature of the whole film.

3) Possibly one of the best reasons is that it takes place while a Bothan is preparing to dock with a Mon Cal cruiser and shows a shot from the cockpit looking out the canopy.  Well, it just occurred to me that this clip from the end of Star Tours 2 could be slowed down and used to portray this shot, thus saving some work.

Reasons not to have Bothans:

1) It will take A LOT of work.

2) It does not add anything to the story or characters.

3) It does not feature any of the primary characters, and, thus, will feel un-Star Warsy.

So maybe Coruscant was meant to be in ROTJ:

Thought you might find this interesting...Coruscant was called Had Abbadon.

STAR WARS – EPISODE VI : “REVENGE OF THE JEDI”
Written by GEORGE LUCAS
REVISED ROUGH DRAFT
June 12, 1981

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…

1. SPACE

The boundless heavens serve as a backdrop for the MAIN TITLE. A ROLL-UP crawls into infinity.

The Rebellion is doomed. Spies loyal
to the Old Republic have reported
several new armored space stations
under construction by the Empire.

A desperate plan to attack the
Dreaded Imperial capitol of
Had Abbadon and destroy the Death
Stars before they are completed has
been put into effect.

Rebel commandos, led by Princess Leia,
have made their way into the very
heart of the Galactic Empire: as the
first step toward the final battle
for freedom….

Pan down to reveal the planet HAD ABBADON, capitol of the Galactic Empire. The gray planet’s surface is completely covered with cities and is shrouded in a sickly brown haze. Orbiting the polluted planet is a small, green, moon, a sparkling contrast to the foreboding sphere beyond.

If you're bring up the old idea of the St. Petersburg/Leningrad-esque renaming of Coruscant, I would say I like it; but, honestly:

1. Why change it to Had Abbadon? Not Palpsville?

2. There is no in movie explanation, thus, audience confusion.

3. Coruscant sounds cooler. Probably the reason why Lucas used it for the PT.

Ender.....if we can do everything in this script....

I think this might turn into my favorite Star Wars movie ever.

Best part has to be....

Ric Olie: Yep, that's a lot of TIE fighters!

Agreed on all points.

Also, I'm starting to think having Anakin appear as a ghost at the funeral pyre is a good idea ONLY if he disappears. To me, that would mean that Anakin is still redeemed, but the poignancy of his final talk would Luke wouldn't be decreased. He's not going to be punished for eternity, but he won't be able to be among the living anymore. I have more things to say about this, but, basically, this is the way to go with Anakin's ghost.

Truthfully I am too.  I simply see the best way to do it is to focus on the least radical edit first, and when completed, continue with the idea and further enhance it.  I think focus should be used primarily on what is popular, and then further refining and radicalizing continue when v 1.0 is done.  Those are my thoughts.

EDIT: It occurs to me that while we already do have an existing ROTJ wishlist thread, perhaps a new thread could be started that documents actual specific ideas to be considered for v 2.0, just so we don't lose them.  Maybe that's too redundant, but it's just a thought.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

The Life of Emile Zola 9/10

Mrs. Miniver 8/10

Unfortunately, watching solely BPs have become something of a chore. There's only eight left that I haven't seen, but I just need to take a break. So I watched:

So I had an Idea recently and although I really don't want to have anymore than I have already had and don't want to over do it but Darth_ender inspired me about Vader not being in the executor and then saying the emperor turns up in the eclipse....

Well my suggestion is this Vader stays in the star destroyer escorted by the other 2 (I have good reason for this) after we see Leia / Boush with the thermal detonator in jabbas palace we would cut to a fly-by of the executor orbiting corusant....

We would then see a shot of a lamda shuttle in corusant atmosphere but like the Ralph mcquarrie concept drawings and show how corusant has changed become more opressed and the Emperors Palace from where the shuttle departs.

We would then see the shot from ESB SE of vader leaving bespin but with the planet changed to corusant and the following shot of the shuttle flying to the executor. Obviously this is the emperor although we don't see him until he arrives at DSII

It would then cut back to night and Leia / Boush creeping around Jabbas palace

It's a bit of a Fan-Service clip but It might add a little somthing...

I kinda really like this...

Here's the other clip...

http://www.mediafire.com/?aqavinvcvq6fttv

Please try to remember that it is incomplete and the x-wing on tattooine is missing FX shots and audio samples too... aswell as Yoda needs Dubbing but it is for the purpose of structure I am doing this and trying to convey my ideas is the only way to mock it up... I hope you enjoy this storyboard video

Please give your feedback if you wish also... I am excited for this idea even though it's incomplete.

I didn't like the crystal idea before, but I think it could work your way. I wonder if we could work the crystal into the scene where Luke builds his lightsaber somehow. If not, it might not be so easy for the audience to connect the crystal to the lightsaber.

The part where Luke flies into Tattooine is cool, but the music is out of place, as is Luke's first line of dialogue to R2. The rest of the beginning is ominous, slow, and dark; all things that the music and Luke's line aren't. Also, while I'm not completely against the idea of Luke flying through Beggar's Canyon, I think if it were to be used, it would need to be shorter than how you have it. I'm still against the idea because I think it would ruin the flow, but I will admit it's really cool and different in a good way.

I'm really hoping for more votes.  I would like to receive them by tomorrow morning, but if we don't get more, I may extend it.  Those who have been active participants or who are involved in the editing team are especially encouraged to vote.

I'm sorry, I've been meaning to vote, but I've been busy. I'll try to cast my opinion by tonight.

EDIT: I just did.

A few typos and a repeated item on the ballot, but can't bother to take it back now.  Oh well.  Hope it's a useful way of doing the vote.

So I've decided now is the time to release the url to the new forum.  It's simple, but I think it should meet the needs of the editing crew.

http://collab.forumcircle.com/portal.php

Still waiting on GoodMusician and Jaitea to register, and there's not much activity yet, but that's to be expected given busy schedules and not much to report yet.  Hopefully the editors can make some tentative timetables so we know generally when to expect updates and to keep each other motivated.

I'm thinking of adding a single forum where guests can comment.  However, I'm not sure how wise that is, because I hope people will keep most comments here.  Let me know what you guys think.  No one will be able to register without a passcode, but if desired, folks can at least say, "Good job."

And a final note: we REALLY could use someone willing to do a rough edit of the whole film for the editors to use as a framework.  As the edit progresses, altered and fixed scenes can replace the old versions (i.e. emanswfan's improved deleted sandstorm scene could replace the BD version).  This way we can also see how simple editing choices work, such as the altered Endor battle, the droids falling directly onto the skiff (assuming that passes the vote), the placing of Dagobah and Vader reaching out to Luke in the beginning, etc.  It wouldn't have to be perfect, particularly sound-wise.  I think it would simply be a means of visualizing many of the changes and pacing.

WHOEVER VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE THE ROUGH EDIT AUTOMATICALLY GETS ACCESS TO THE NEW FORUM, for what it's worth to you.  You'd get more input on the process and get earlier updates.  Please, we really could use an editor to spare the special effects team the work of doing extraneous stuff and allowing them to focus on the actual effects.

I will do it!

That's so wizard!
